    I recently got one of these and had to go to loading because the ammo is so fargin' expensive. I have been doing 60-100rds a week for the past 4 weeks. I haven't even looked at my Remington 700 or ARs since I got it. Having a range 10mins from the office is a blessing and a curse.

    OK, so my .338 is a Savage with a Millett 1/4moa 6x50 sitting on top. I love the .338! Be it Ruger or Savage, except for the cost of ammo, it is hard to beat when it counts waaaay out there. At 100yds, pass throughs are typical. Thanks for featuring the LaPua, for us older guys with plenty of accumulated valor under our belts, sitting somewhere being part of the solution instead of running around with an AR or AK makes this gun a perfect niche matchup.

    I bought this rifle today. I'm in Australia and paid $3995. So much more expensive here. Also don't get to pick it up for another 30 days. The wait is roughly 30 days for each different calibre. However if I buy another .338 then I won't have to wait as long. If I go and buy a .22 for the first time, i still have to wait 30 days.... sigh... Another thing us Aussies have to put up with :(

    I would disagree with your assessment of Ruger's customer service. I know 4 weeks isn't too bad, but honestly, it's not really trying too hard either. If you've got a 1500-2k rifle that is defective out of the box, they should just send you a brand new replacement, fix the one you send back then sell the repaired one on as refurb or whatever. But for the amount of money you put down, you have every right to expect a flawless piece out of the box, ready to go. I personally would have been harsher on them in the video.

    Why is the price difference so extreme between ammo components vs fully assembled ammo? In automated factories it's super quick and shouldn't cost much at all to squeeze the parts together. What makes finished rounds so pricey and components so cheap?

    Most long range ranges here in the DFW area are member only accept one which is a drive away and that means I hardly ever get my 6.5 out to distance so a .338 would be a waste of money for me. That being said it does look like a real nice rig

      Long action don’t topically print tight at close range compared to cartridges like 308 or 6.5. This is a very accurate rifle at long range and extreme long range. It will group wider at close range but hold the group longer and handle transonic zones better. We are using Lapua brass, Hornady 285’s ELDs and are hitting almost every round at a mile, and most rounds at 2200 with this rifle. We are planning on taking it to 2 mile next year.

    • @edub1894
      @edub1894 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      henderjess900 I was going to buy one of these and after seeing this I’m really reconsidering that because I understand one mistake but both the hand guard and the muzzle break are wrong from the factory!? That’s BS and makes me really concerned about other major issues that may come around later on down the line when it won’t be possible to send it back due to it being “broken in.” I really want this rifle but dang you’re absolutely correct. That shit shouldn’t happen. No argument can possibly refute that at all!

  • @seantedrow4862
    @seantedrow4862 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting, I picked one up as well with a crooked muzzle brake. Kind of disappointed Ruger isn't catching that, and it seems it's not isolated. The brake is on extremely tight, and there are conflicting instructions on how to remove between the standard and the supplemental magnum manual. Did you remove the brake, or have Ruger do it? Mine is on extremely tight.

    • @tacticaltuner4217
      @tacticaltuner4217  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just had Ruger do it. I figured I had to send it to them anyways so may as well let them do it. I agree they need better quality control. You May want to give them a call to confirm the instructions, their customer service was pretty good. Well Good luck bud, hope its not to much of a headache for ya.

    • @mark929rr5
      @mark929rr5 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      mine was a bit off as well. it really wasn't a big deal to correct it. I just assume that looked over things like this just contribute to keeping the cost of the rifle down. anybody with any kind of mechanical intuition and common sense can tweek these little imperfections themselves at home with basic tools. some people can get really critical with the quality of a gun when they get it home... but lets call a spade a spade... for about $1700 shipped , you got a gun than can be consistently accurate at over 1000 yards. so if i have to do a bit of research and work at home to dial mine in, im ok with it. plus i have more time than money and its fun to lean stuff along the way. I have a couple friends who are somewhat gunsmiths and have much more knowledge than I about guns, say its pretty common to have to inspect and adjust parts on a brand new gun no matter what make or model or style. if i spent $15k on an accuracy international or something i would expect it to come in perfect working condition. i truly believe that with a little bit of time and effort i will have mine shooting better than a $5k gun of some guy who doesn't want to put the time in or understand what his gun needs to be better. mine shoots great. there was a couple things i had to address like the crooked muzzle brake, the hand guard was set a little funky. i had to snugg a couple screws... no big deal.

      the handguards were out of round do to the mounting hold being drilled wrong and the muzzle brake was crooked and would not move, I am guessing they used red locktite instead of blue. I wasn't going to mess up the finish on a brand new rifle trying to fix it when I already had to send it in to get the handguard fixed. The fixed in fast and gave me a free mag for my trouble so they took good care of me.

  • @jamesm.1467

    Regardless if you were just doing a barrel break in, 100yrds for that rifle is just wasting money on the already expensive ammo. I have my sights set on one of these and I sure the hell wouldnt waste my money on ammo just to shoot 100yrds. Aside from that, next time you do a video, work on the audio, could hardly hear you even inside that office. like may firearms manufacturers their are some time lemons especially with new rifles, however Ruger took great care of us. The 338 vs of the RPR was still pretty new when we posted this video. That being said this rifle has been great. We took it out to KS and were hitting a 22inx22in steel target at 2200yrd with very little effort.

    Ruger should of sent you a brand new rifle the day that twisted shit house got there and they realized they dropped the ball on quality control should not of made you wait a month to have the product you paid for and deserve to be able to use a product you spent your hard earned money on its not like you dropped it and twisted something. If I buy anything and it was manufactured like shit I not only don't want that one I'm not waiting a month for them to fix something that should of never left the plant. I mean what else did they miss on their shit job of making that item. I'm glad I seen this before I purchased 1..... Savage 110 BA it is

(3) I found cheaper ammo then what you found do your research. ammograb.com

      Thanks for letting me know about the audio, we have since bout better wireless mic’s. Audio is a pain out doors even with bad good mic’s if your on a budget. Die’s are a setup cost same as a press and everything else, I was just focused on ammo cost. Prices may be better now for cheap ammo, I bought this ammo a year ago and local not online. Thanks for the heads up on the audio and thanks for watching.

      Agreed however there are people that for some reason like an unboxing segment. Since I am making videos for everyone and not just one person I try to include a little of everything, and I did try and make the unboxing portion go quickly. What you can do is “Fast forward” move the slider past the unboxing segment then continue watching if the unboxing portion is not for you. Thanks for watching.
