- Trying to kayak 5 rivers in 5 days as I travel across Tennessee. I attempted this in late summer of 2023, from starting the first day and flipping my kayak to ending the trip on one of the most beautiful rivers ever, this was a fun attempt and hope to make it a yearly trip.

🎉Sometimes the road less traveled, or in this case, the creek less traveled are where the real giants reside. Thanks for taking us along.....
Yup, that's how me and my buddy fish.
Very beautiful areas John, you are the perfect example of "if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life" those smallies fight like crazy, so much fun
I've been watching you for years now. Now you're starting to fish closer towards my area the guy at the beginning should have told you about the rapids on that River. Then I see you on the Buffalo right around the corner from my house.
You have no idea how stoked I was to see you fish in my hometown. Much love brother, thanks for the banger video. Tight lines!
Love that creek wading!!!! Those smallmouth bass were fired up!!! Wooooooo weeeeeeeeeee
As a Tennessee native who moved away recently. I find your videos super nostalgic and a nice touch of home. Keep up the great adventures and great content!
wow, respect to you for still getting this done and making it happen despite the circumstances.
LOL... YES, I love that intro clip. Thanks. And thanks for taking us along on your adventures. Regards from Central AR.
It took me a day, but I enjoyed all two hours. Your positivity is refreshing. Can’t wait for the next one!
This is a great video love to see the ups and down to show that TH-camr is just always catching fish every cast , but more everyday fishermen life . Rock on my guy love your content
Been watching for years. You do what I wish I could do more. It’s nice to watch you on a river I’ve canoes many times in my younger years. Every time I see that bridge I got a little sad. Wasn’t ever ready to go.
Keep exploring, we can feel your happiness
Another great video John !!!
Best fishing channel on TH-cam !
Forgive me but i could not keep from laughing when you capsized. I felt so bad really. But i knew it would turn out well i admire your fortitude. Ive enjoyed your videos for s long time
Epic adventure! I had to watch all 2+hrs.
when you flipped it gave me the hibbee gibbies
i appreciate how positive you are even when things go sideways. Thanks for the positivity. we nee more of that in our world, espesially in our hobbies.
Just bought my first kayak this Saturday, you were definitely one of the inspirations for that to happen John! And a kayak video today, couldn't ask for more 😁
We all go swimming at one time or another. Great videos
Watching the gear float away underwater was heart-breaking... but you got most of it back! God is good! BTW. this trip was STILL better than a good day workin'!
The one that says 2nd river is a dam in my home town! I’ve caught some pretty good sized small mouth and crappie in it!!!
Thanks for your channel. You do it in a way that your watchers feel like they are there. Fantastic filming!
great video and glad you are okay. I enjoy your videos and fishing!! have a good day and week. thank you for taking us along..
Love the video and I wouldn't change a thing, not the length or anything else. Really sorry about your experience with the first day and getting tipped. I have coiled tethers that I made for everything on my kayak, especially when fishing in Lake Michigan. I just can't afford to lose anything, especially rods and reels. Your videos are amazing to watch and I love that you get to do what you love full time.
We have a five year plan to move to Tennessee but your video make me want to get down there now. Great stuff enjoy
Hay John I love your videos. I am a long time subscriber. Normally I loss interest in most utube fishing content but not yours. You have always had lots of verity that keeps things interesting. Keep exploring and bring great content.
Tomcat tribute is a pretty good inflatable kayak for those bigger rapids, great vids, thanks.
This is great. Well done. Flips and all
it was a good experience
Oh my gosh the first rapids were crazy it didn't even look that bad that second time except you started to lean, and that was it. I'm sorry you fell in
Grav that anchor wizard my guy
John I'm just finishing day 5 great video sir,, Definately do it again. Great idea, thank you,
Great video! I have kayaked that last stream/river you fished, and camped at that campground two or three times. I want to fish it during the week, and go down slower and fish it thoroughly. I have always been on a weekend and it was packed with recreational paddlers.
I vote for you for The Tennessee Hall of Fame
Mexican Dinner, the way to improve on a bad day fishing. If there is ever a bad day fishing
i love your videos when i came across them and you gain a new sub
A lesson I learned the hard way - on rivers with significant rapids, always use rod floats and keep your gear in water tight bags or boxes strapped to the yak. Murphys law.
Awesome
I really enjoyed this 5 day trip and yes I bet others would agree with seeing more. Creek hopping, lake trips, ditches and creeks all of it. What's amazing is that you felt the Fenwick medium light spinning rod was a bit too light. I agree with that on the bigger rivers but the smaller ones and creeks I rarely use anything heavier. 6' light action old St Croix with 10# braided line for topwater and either a 6' or 6'6 light or medium light for jigs and plastics with6 or 8# copolymer line. The drag tension is key like you pointed out. Caught myself watching your white Yum Hellgramite floating away at the clear water creek. I was waiting for one of your follower smallies to snatch it off the top. Blessings brother
Awesome video!
Awesome video John!! Tough break day one but what a comeback empressive 👍
Glad you stuck with it.Great video!
What an adventure! Sorry about you losing equipment early on. Glad to see equipment that survived held up. Hopefully it didn’t take too long to get hydrated after this. That Hellgrammite sure put in some work. I’ve been free rigging the Nikko it floats as you know but have been putting a bobber stopper about 4in ahead of hellgrammite.!Thanks for the time you put into your videos!
love the Nolichucky but its a hard mistress. split my hand clean open on a jagged rock there as a kid going trout fishing with my dad. my older brother pretty much had to drag me back to the car cuz i was light headed from the blood loss hahahaha. Good memories :D
and hahaha classic going down to El Charolais after a big day. down here we sometimes call it El Kroger since its right next to kroger
What an awesome video, that was some very nice fish🐟🎣🐟🎣
That double was awesome!!! That would have been major inches in a tournament 😮👍
Dickson I know exactly where you . That’s my stomping grounds . I won’t say the river … lol
Wow! Happy you are ok and that you were able to find a lot of your gear and go pro!
Nice fish bro
The Nolichukey. River of death. Hope you had some Pal's while in Erwin. Great video!
I'm a ex professional bmxer, lifelong avid fisherman an outdoor enthusiast and sir I am jealous of your life lol love your channel n motivation. Man I need to bail Cali and see these spots!
Love that opener Ian (also our son's name). I retired from bmx back in 1989 but just the novice and intermediate ranks. You should get out of Cali and explore east brother.
haha, thanks man, one thing i have found travelling is every state has awesome places in it that easily get overlooked, but Tennessee has a lot
I watched in the spring, I used a short tether on my kayak and saved me from losing my rods but lost a few other things my tackle was tethered because I lost some before. I have then tied when not fishing because I get a little careless when just checking out the area sometimes.
Love this
I'm used to smallies in IL on the Fox River that weight 2 to 3 lbs, and Canadian smallies that are 4 lbs easy. I fish with 5lb line in ultralight gear for the battle.
My friend I hope you are OK!!
KNEW THAT WAS GONNA HAPPEN, SPENT MANY TIMES ON THE CHUCKEY WITH SQUAD, SOME TRICKY SPOTS... AND LITTLE FISHING,
i wish i had known before i got going,
❤ I see hardly any birds
I have a Maverick with a Curado K. Best combo I've ever owned.
Nice.. trip...
Dude, you couldn't handle The Chuck.
The ‘chucky takes. I flipped at Frontend Loader rapid.
There’s a pair of small van stall pliers at the bottom right there. Hopefully someone found them.
Great video dude! Come up to northern KY and let’s chase smallies!
Come to duck river in shelbyville tn try zoom speed craw green pumpkin on your water love your videos
What a great video! If you do rapids again, consider a helmet, eh. Water is strong stuff.
I may have mentioned this to you previously but you are to throw out your minnow traps and get you some Creek chubs and fish these little Creeks like you're fishing right there the size of the little Pigeon River and I promise you you will catch some Hogs. And if you ever want to come to the little pigeon somehow let me know I don't do Facebook or any of those things but I don't know if you can direct message on TH-cam that you can hook up with me and my buddy and we can take you
Should be a cool video. Well so far its exciting as it could be. Hop back in and get er done,, I know you will,, Nice first fish lol, Glad you are good,
John I didn’t realize it at the time but pal we met at Imperial Bait&Tackle. We had spoke for I guess about 5 or 10 minutes.
oh yeah
You ever floated the lower part of the Nolichucky? From the Enka dam on down is a nice little float with smoother water.
no i havent but that sounds good
It's fun. We use to float it in a jon boat down to Hales bridge.
Your day three looked alone like the Buffalo River here in Arkansas.
its funny how so many places can look identical to sevral other states
Sorry man but that is just part of fishing the Nolisucky, you have to look in North Carolina for rain. It's good fishing if you can get to places other people can't or other places they don't see...especially the jet boats. It's been over fished for years so their size is way down from what it was, everyone and their brother were catching 4 and 5lb fish back in the 80s, now an 18" is a good fish with most being in the 12" range.
Where did you put in at on the noli? South of 81 is the way to go from what I hear. It kind of looked like you put in at the USA raft camp ground. I haven’t fished it yet but I am going to. I live in Flag Pond so I pass it every day.
Do you ever kayak on the Cumberland river or the lake like alligator dock? I think it’s where they call it Russellville, Kentucky
i have not yet
Man nothing like river fishing from a kayak!! Just starting the video hoping you stopped at Waynesboro tn at the Buffalo river!
Yep you did lol
and i plan to go back for sure
Interested in that vest and backpack combo you have on. Who the manufacturer of where you get it from?
LOVE THE SHOW but why no creek names most of the time? I might not be catching them if so apologies. Could you please recommend some wadable creeks near Winchester, TN besides elk river. thanks
Not sure for wading. Manchester has a greenway on a creek
can i get one of them bull shads at basspro? you doing good
What are the best apps that you can use to find places to fish? you seem to find them all - I am in Michigan BTW
I have a new kayak never used. How do I get started kayaking
What glasses do you like for spot fishing/seeing in the water?
most any polarized work, i like lighter lenses like yellow tinted ones
James 1:2-4 😅😅 😊😊
If u had to pick only one which would it be the crescent shoal or the bon rvr??
for me i have to give a slight edge to the rvr, i still use them both and each have things they are better at
What size bull shad is that?
5 in
You're not selling me on kayak fishing (or canoes). I'm not willing to sacrifice any of my $500 combos with a capsizing kayak.
Hey if you don’t want to have as much fun that’s fine, just kidding it’s better to do what you feel comfortable with
@@CreekFishingAdventures I've never been comfortable with how tipey a canoe and/or kayak is especially after watching my dad almost drown when the canoe he was in capsized and his legs got tangled in the line during the chaos. I'll stick to my beater of a jon boat or my waders in the rivers. Recently found your channel and am really enjoying your content. May look at an ultralight setup this season and look for streams to wade. Cheers from. Hamilton, Ontario, 🇨🇦
What top water lure is that 1:27:31
berkley choppo 75
Man I hated to see you take a spill like that. My heart hurt for you seeing all your stuff under the water
So is the lesson here that; a flatter bottom fishing kayak isn't as good in rapids as something with a keel like the Crew?
Watching all my shit go down stream doesn't sound like fun.
Lesson is don’t take a fishing kayak in white water. That was way too much current and waves for me. I just didn’t know until I was in it
take the money and fix the hair line my gog
Why waste money on hair?
It's getting to the point where there are too many adds and having to watch 3 or 4 before you can click off them. I'm not giving youtube/google my card info to pay for not having to deal with them.
Dude, your paddle. Fix it.
You ask us to subscribe but are not willing to tell us the stream. I’ll watch other fishing videos where the fisherman and viewers can cooperate with each other
Please don’t subscribe then
I’ve been watching since the beginning and I would rather watch 6 videos 20 minutes long than watch 1 video 2 hours long because you’re too lazy to edit the videos into segments. I enjoy watching your videos but I don’t have time for long videos.
well, you must have missed where I made these 5 individual videos separately last year, so this wasn't for you it was for other people to enjoy
Thanks for the hard work, you a inspiration for me to get out there when I can
The ‘chucky takes. I flipped at Frontend Loader rapid.
There’s a pair of small van stall pliers at the bottom right there. Hopefully someone found them.
