Daphne du Maurier's "The Birds" is a suspenseful horror story set in Cornwall, a rural English coastal town. It centers on Nat, a war veteran and part-time farmhand who struggles to protect his family from unprecedented and violent bird attacks that plague the town. Mysterious and brutal, the birds attack humans on sight with no apparent explanation, leaving residents in a state of terror and confusion. The story delves into themes of human ignorance and apathy as locals dismiss the severity of the threat, echoing broader societal attitudes toward approaching dangers, like fascism before World War II. Unlike other adaptations that focus more on spectacle or environmental themes, du Maurier's original narrative starkly portrays the fragility of human life against inexplicable natural chaos, encapsulating a haunting allegory of war's ominous unpredictability. - บันเทิง
Stunning, really superb! Personally, I think this rivals the Hitchcock movie for depth and sinister atmosphere.Very powerful echoes of the war, too. Thank you very much for this!
Very good story
I read many Daphne DuMaurier as a teen!
Much more complex than the Hitchcock version as I remember it. The book is always better.
Birds aren't real, LOL.
