    THIS STORY:
    On Thursday, August 1, 1963 around 2:10pm Diane Taylor was seen walking down an alley behind the Austin YMCA located at 501 N. Central Ave, Chicago, Illinois. She attended the day camp at the YMCA. Diane had asked a counselor at the YMCA to help her unwrap a lollipop and a friend stated that then Diane left walking down the alley behind the YMCA around 2pm. Diane’s mother Rita returned home from work around 6:30pm and Diane had not returned home. Rita reported Diane missing to the Chicago PD approximately 9:30pm on August 1, 1963. Diane’s body was found on Saturday, August 3, 1963 around 9:30am behind 1055 N. Lockwood, she had been stabbed and slashed, with a stab to her heart being the cause of death.

      @@bettyboop4263
      Certainly, DNA can be extracted many years later - particularly from teeth. New advances in techniques, and particularly through genealogical tracing DNA to specific families - have made cold-case investigations possible. Even very old cases are finally being solved much more frequently.
      There was a case of one woman whose vehicle was discovered by accident after 21 years underwater in a lake - and her remains were still inside the vehicle. The infamous American forensic pathologist, Dr Michael Baden handled her case in identifying the murdered woman through DNA, extracted from a molar (which thankfully brought some closure for her son who was only a small boy at the time and was told by his stepfather, who was also the murderer, that she had simply abandoned him!)
      I also know that the unidentified remains of the baby who was pulled out of Atlantic Ocean by the recovery team aboard the cable ship SS Mackay-Bennett after the sinking of the Titanic (and he was buried in a cemetery at Halifax, Nova Scotia) was only very recently identified by DNA after it was compared with mitochondrial DNA from his family's descendants, finally giving him a name and after being buried for more than 100 years - and there were only a few bone fragments left.
      So the answer is, YES! Absolutely yes! Particularly since the advances in genealogical DNA testing and the existence and availability of several DNA profile databases with which to compare very old DNA.
      One such case solved in this manner remains, to date, the oldest cold-case ever solved. Scrapings taken from under the girl's fingernails revealed the DNA from her killer - 53 years beforehand!
      So there will be quite a few folks, albeit rather elderly ones, who will FINALLY pay for their crimes, despite the passage of time - and thankfully in the very near future.
      NO ONE deserves to get away with murder! Dr Locard (1877-1966), the noted early pioneer of forensic science, formulated the most basic principle that "EVERY contact leaves a trace". His theory was that every criminal will both leave SOME form of evidence at the scene, and take some away with him - and this has proved to be very true, no matter how microscopic that evidence may be. Even if one covered him/her self from head to toe, this fact remains true.
      So in the not-so-distant future the number of cold-cases will dwindle to almost zero. My advice to would-be criminals would be, "Don't do it - or be prepared to face a tiny cell for 23 hours a day for several years on Death Row, before facing your own mortality".
      I sincerely hope they get the mongrel who took this little girl's life too!

      I agree that it is sad....but not for the dead....more so for the relatives and friends that lovingly placed them in the ground.... adorned with lovely tombstones, many with a beautiful epitaph. Even if it was pre-arranged by the deceased....Funerals, Burials and Headstones are for the living. A plot of ground to place flowers on and say a prayer. My Family have all chosen to be cremated. All of us can remember each other.... we don't need a sad procession or a marble monument to keep that memory alive in our hearts. Ashes to Ashes Dust to Dust.

    • @j.whiteoak6408
      @j.whiteoak6408 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@pamelabugh1812
      I feel exactly the same way! I don't want to contribute to the global problems of 'cities of the dead'! In many European countries grave-recycling (aka grave eviction) is normal practice because new space for the dead has completely run out. In these countries a grave is only a rented space for 20-25 years, after which the bodies are evicted and are generally sent to the charnel house for communal cremation - unless the families are willing to pay exorbitant sums of money every year to keep them buried or interred, and in other highly-populated countries like the Philippines and Guatemala where the dead are mostly interred in huge walls of above-ground concrete niches similar to these (only they're piled 10-high and can be half a km long!), they are only given 5 YEARS (4 in Guatemala!) before the bodies are evicted and the remains (many of them still recognisable) are broken up and sent to the ossuary a huge pile of communal bones bleaching in the tropical sun, usually at the rear of the cemetery. I've witnessed hundreds of these grave evictions in the Philippines, and found it quite horrifying.
      So no, I don't want a funeral, much less a monument! I've always been fascinated by cemeteries - particularly the obviously wealthy ones with amazing funerary statues and mausoleums, etc (La Recoleta Cemetery in Buenos Aires is mind-blowing!) But my own preference for myself? I don't even want a marker. I've drummed it into my husband for years - "direct alkaline hydrolysis"! (AKA aquamation, water cremation, etc): No embalming, no viewings, no casket, no flowers, no service, not even a memorial marker - I just want my ashes spread to the four winds from my favourite hilltop on a windy day.
      Problems of burial space have been growing in every country for many years already.

    • @pamelabugh1812
      @pamelabugh1812 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@j.whiteoak6408 I've seen a few programs about that on the History Channel. I told my Husband if he wants to plant my ashes under a tree I can be Human Fertilizer. He said he doesn't care if I flush his down the toilet. Then he quoted a line from Animal Mother in the Movie Full Metal Jacket...."The Dead only Know one thing, it's better to be alive." But not to sound insensitive....I respect everyone's practices when it comes to their loved ones... and in this case I'm with you....I would stop at nothing to find the Killer. It was a good thing She wasn't cremated....I just hope the DNA is there.

    Normally, if I was going to make a comment on 1 of your videos (as I have in the past) it would be to thank you for a good presentation and/or for the great way in which you tell a story. And this video certainly lives up to those compliments.
    But what really struck me today was the opening scene in which you show a grave stone as it was in circa 1935, and then transition to a perfectly captured view (same angle, distance and perspective of said gravestone) of how it looks today. If that short bit of graphic magic doesn't demonstrate to all of us that time marches on and that we are merely here for a small part of it, I don't know what does! Thank you for not just the time that you put in to your videos, but also for the care and imagination that you use when creating them.
