    I don't think you should give up on the Philodendrons. Most of the ones that you have required higher humidity, also, I would keep all of the tropicals together so they can get the humidity they need. Try using distilled water. get a humidifier if you don't have one for those particular philodendrons. Also, make sure to cut away all the bad leaves. Add orchid bark to the soil. Hope this helps. Don't give up. 😊

  • @Ash-xx5zd
    @Ash-xx5zd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +59

    Philodendrons are difficult for me too. However my friend who bought some philos at the same time as I did from the same source has his thriving. Comparing our plant care behavior, I believe philodendrons like consistent infrequent watering. My friend travels as lot for work and he said he basically doesnt do anything for them - "they thrive on neglect" he told me. You have so much plant success that I think it's a shame that you give up on philodendrons completely. Perhaps get a few of the same philodendrons, buy some chalk board labels or paint and water each plant differently and keep track. It would be a great video and someone like us would really appreciate the lessons it teaches us to stop overloving things...lol. thanks for the tour. Great video!!! And Nemo is soooo lovely as always.

    • @CrazyPlantGuy
      @CrazyPlantGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Beautiful plants. You asked for some advice so Ill give some. Highly recommend you put some earthworms and springtails in all your planters (also I like to add some soil mites but people tend to think all mites are bad which isn't true but I'm not trying to freak gardeners out). Springtails and earthworms will eat all the rotten stuff and their poop will be nutrient dense for the plant which makes them healthier and grow faster. Earthworms also help with soil aeration with the tunnels they constantly dig. They also make all your plants resistant to root rot and other diseases. Your fiddle leaf fig would love this, also some of your others that aren't doing too well will love them. All of your plants will benefit from them massively. You can buy earthworms and springtails online if you don't know where to get them locally. You don't need that many of the springtails because they reproduce so fast.
    Springtails and earthworms cannot survive outside of the planters so your apartment wont get too crazy with bugs all over the place. This is another reason why I love them; you get al the benefits of the bugs with none of the nuisance of them infesting your home; they can't and won't. ALSO, the springtails and earthworms will lower any gnat infestations. Earthworm also eat the eggs hazardous insects (such as spider mites and various harmful aphids).
    Im a big proponent of living soil. Adding the right soil flora (such as springtails and earthworms; and soil mites) can really bring indoor planting to the next level and also makes your plants much lower maintenance (so it's a win win). Lots of youtube content on "how to: springtails and earthworms in your indoor planters."
    Your collection is beautiful and very impressive. Thank you for sharing.

    I LOVE the fiddle leaf fig, and for some reason, mine has done wonderful in my low light conditions. I bought it in the Bronx 3 years ago, in a 4 inch pot, it maybe had 3 leaves. It’s now almost as tall as I am. I put it outside in the summer, under a tree...never in full sun - learned that the hard way.

    Hi! I honestly wonder why the philodendrons are being so difficult; I asked my fiance (who was in agriculture) and he said to check the PH levels of your soil, fertilizer,and water. In his words, because you know it isn't the light (due to you having philodendrons in several different places), it has something to do with the water, fertilizer or soil, in terms the salts. It could be that there is no mycorrhizal fungi, which is a fungus that coexists with roots that helps them gather nutrients. It could be that the water/fertilizer is essentially burning the roots. These are just suggestions that came first to mind because we obviously don't know what you have and have not checked.

    • @CrazyPlantGuy

      Oh wow. Thank you for these suggestions. I was also thinking it might be the water I’m using but I have a friend who literary doesn’t live far from me and they use the same water and her philodendron are thriving. But possible the soil I’m using is off...I also just discovered some thrips on them so that may be the issue as well. It weird that it always seems to be the Philos 🤷🏻‍♂️😅

      I find philos so beautiful and easy to grow. Try filling containers with cold water from the tap, let it sit for a week (room temp) and then water. It may be the direct tap water they don't like because the lighting seems fine. If not the water, as others suggested it may be the soil or over fertilizing.

    for philos, try to water only when completely dried. I almost killed one of mine from regular watering. Now I water once every maybe 2 weeks (I know it makes me anxious to wait that much but its what takes for soil to dry. Another trick a florist gave me is : besides waiting the soil to dry, when watering add a little of that natural seaweed fertilizer. I did it once and my plant came back to life in two days as he said so.
    Let us know if something helps. and congrats for your amazing video and plants

    Your cacti and desert rose would appreciate more sunlight. Cacti will etiolate (stretch) and your desert rose won’t flower for you if they don’t get at least 5 hours of sunlight. You’re lucky to have that space outside your huge window. They would love it there. Love your channel. Pinay cacti and succulent collector from Singapore. 🥰

      Definitely I have 2 and the first one I got pretty much dropped it's leaves from the greenhouse and grew a whole new huge top and a baby shoot. I just picked up my second one so I'm excited to see how it does. It was a Walmart special!!!! I have a double white and the new one is a red or pink of some sorts.

    That looks like a Pearls and Jade. I seen a video once describing the difference between the two and pearls n jade has the speckles on it, while the N’ Joy doesn’t have any.

      I have a few normal njoy leaves and a few ones with speckles tho. So which one do you think it would be considered? It didn’t say what it was when i bought it a few months ago.

    • @juliahedmanwallin
      @juliahedmanwallin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaslinn I'd say look at the green. If its more of a dark muted green (almost looks like theres a white matted finish on it) it's probably a pearls and jade but if it's a bright light/dark green then it's probably a n'joy!

    You seem to have the perfect light area for philodendrons. Bright. Indirect light. I use half coarse orchid mix with potting soil. I use the finger check for moisture. Only water when dry.
