It's great. I feel like this guy is the definition of big labels buying all in on something that sounded like shit (and himself, he bought in, fuck this dude), and then unfortunately we had the pandemic, but fortunately the pandemic seems to have freed people from mainstream radio dictating that they should love shit like Lil Pump. 2020-2021 have been super debilitating, depressing, made me personally wish to die, but managed to bring forth a ridiculous amount of great music (maybe as a result of the poor circumstances, maybe as a result of people not being in cars and having more opportunity to discover). The playing field will never be even, but right now it's probably as close as it could get and there's been so much great music in the past couple of years that's hit the surface. I feel like that might have been aided by people like Lil Pump. So thank you Lil Pump, for making dogshit music for a few years that was supported by Warner Bros.

I called this shit when it was happening. They brag about being the biggest thing in the world but the thing is he doesn’t care about getting better at rapping or making better music, so he plateaued practically right when he blew up. This is what happens when you think you have nothing left to learn bc you’re so good. I’m sure anyone who ever tried to give him tips on rapping was told “Gucci gang is the biggest song in the world you idiot” and by getting better I don’t even mean changing his style or becoming super lyrical or something, Travis Scott isn’t super lyrical and he makes pop music and stayed relevant way longer then pump, bc he didn’t stop and go “I guess I know everything” you will never get out of a rut or get new ideas if you think you already know all there is to it

Although Lil Pump played a big part in the ‘SoundCloud’ rap era, he didn’t really do anything apart from jump on the aesthetic bandwagon that other SoundCloud rap pioneers (Lil Uzi Vert, XXXTentacion, Lil Peep, Lil Yachty, Kodak Black etc…) had already laid down… He kind of just took the easiest elements to imitate from these artist’s styles (bass boosted beats… meaningless adlibs as lyrics) and created the simplest, most accessible version of the sub-genre possible. It was kind fun to listen to in a sort of ironic way but extremely lacking in any kind of substance.
Fantano is right, when you’re making art that totally lacks substance, the only way to stay relevant would be to switch it up stylistically… Something that Pump hasn’t done/probably can’t do as his entire style is based on ripping from a very short, specific era of music that is no longer fashionable. It’s old, played out and dare I say cringey now. That being said, I did enjoy some of his songs; he made his mark and I wish him the best.
