Thank you Harri! This song has a very special meaning to me, my beautiful wife of 46 years was diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Parkinsons last spring, so we renewed our vows on her birthday in a surprise for her. This song was used as a photo montage background chronicling our lifetime together.

This may come across as silly but when i was 11, i got a little chestnut mare. Sham (SHAWM) quickly became my best friend and confidant. Though she wasn't a big horse, she was "a lot of horse." i was a beginner rider and she taught me to be a true rider. Sham got me through my teenage years, my dad's long goodbye at home from Alzheimer's, life as a Military Wife (making several cross country moves with me), the birth of my daughter (who she taught to ride at 3), the death of my beloved mother and the pain of an abusive marriage. i lost Shammi several years ago at the age of 32. From the beginning, this was "our song."

My heart broke the day Kenny Rogers passed away. His range and vocal abilities were so unique. Wonderful analysis and reaction Harri.
This is definitely one of my favorite of his.
Love Kenny Rogers music from when he was with the First Edition (60's-70's) to his solo career. He was a great story teller in many of his songs like "Coward Of The County" & "The Gambler". He had so many hits "Lucille", "Lady", "Through the Years" etc. He did a lot of duets such as with Kim Carnes "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer", with Sheena Easton "We've Got Tonight" & with Dolly Parton "Islands In The Stream". He also did quite a few duets with Dottie West.

Lionel Ritchie , A great singer in his own right, is listed as the Producer of this song. He was the saxophonist in his "Commodore" days. The song went to #1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary Chart. Kenny was kind of Pop rock when he started out with Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. I think Country music kind of adopted him as his music started swinging that way with "The Gambler" and collaborations with Dolly and the rest. A great voice. RIP 😪
