I get that ‘gospel vibe’ you’re talking about. So Hyang just sings with so much soul & it’s not just due to her influences as a gospel singer. She’s picky with the songs she performs. They’re always ones that somewhat aligns with her personal beliefs & image as an artist. All that makes it easy for the listeners to feel that she means everything she’s singing about and thus be moved. On her side, it’s probably easier as well to express herself fully since she really does resonate with the song’s message. This freedom of choice and not having to compromise on the kind of music she wants to do, is probably the main reason why she chose to be an independent artist and remains so even today, despite the many offers from local and international labels over the years.
