My good friend, Pastor Cameron Price, went on to be with the Lord this day. I remembered he shared this group with me when we were in Bible college together some back in 99/2000. In praise to Jesus and honor of his memory I lift my hands humbly in repentance and worship. Broken promises, broken by me and not by you. Jesus save me, snap my stubburn heart in two.
Rez Band allowed a rehab program to sit in on a practice in a church in 1978. I was there. I came off the streets and this was new stuff. Rez Band was a part of my life turning 180 degrees. I met the band and will never forget it. Thanks Rez Band!
I saw them at creation in 79 ..I first heard them on vinyl at a neighborhood bible study in 78..god is good...it turned my life around..I'm sure i would have not made it to 1980 if it weren't for gods prayer warriors showing love to a person like me who was in deep need of salvation living a life of drugs and alcohol..jesus really used this song to speak to me
Sorry about that, dude. First Christian rock concert I was taken to 1979. Amazing! Wendy sounds like a female Robert Plant, Glen preaches, 2 hecklers, one if whom
I'm in Gods presence listening to this song. I have church everytime I listen to it. I'm about to be 61 and my conversion was no different than Pauls on the road to Damascus. God got me when I was 19 and never let me go
First heard this in 1982 ... became a part of me and my theology and now as a Army Chaplain sitting in my office it is as powerful today (maybe even more so) as it was as a youth. God Bless you for your service - JPUSA
Our life is full of brokenness - broken relationships, broken promises, broken expectations. How can we live with that brokenness without becoming bitter and resentful except by returning again and again to God's faithful presence in our lives. -- Henri Nouwen
Oh we have all had broken promises to our God. Thank his mighty name he is very forgiving. And more patient than mankind. Bless the name of Jesus my Lord
Can you hear the message or do you hear nothing but rock music? In the early 80's there was a lot of preaching against Christian Rock. In my confusion I turned to the One who knew. I ask for wisdom. My answer, 'music cannot be good or bad! It's use determines that! What is the message? I've had perfect peace about music ever since. That simple answer helped me to understand the nature of evil itself! Enjoy Rez Band!
My church blackballed me for listening to this music. They said it was demonic. I drew a lot of strength from this song and all the others. It was ~ 1983 There wasn't much of this music back then. I never have gotten along with those pointy heads in church even now but I made good friends on the Christian metal scene.
Unfortunately them or any Christian band doesn't get the recognition in this world the secular music gets, but like the story of the rich man and Lazurus, no matter how rich you are in this life, if you don't go to heaven, who you were on earth doesn't matter. We know the poor mans name. Who the rich man was doesn't matter. Christian music will last thru eternity
Well said... On that note, I love Van Halen, but I'll never listen to Running with the Devil. Or Hells Bells, even though I like AcDc. I struggle with (listening to) the music I love now that I know who wrote many of the songs...
I respect Rez for the honesty and frustrations of life. I had a rough childhood struggling with depression. And this song keeps me hungry for Jesus during the darkest moments in my life too. I am grateful for my uncle to introduce me to their songs when I was lonely kid.
Made a decision for Christ in '82 and this song ( and Rez) has always been my passionate favorite. Even during some years were I chose a dark path often the question would rise at parties what song is paramount and your favorite of all time. I would always answer "Broken Promises by Rez" to which the majority of partiers would look at me confused and bewildered not knowing what I'm talking about. I would just smile... you just gotta know it to feel it! -Good work, Bless Ya! Jesus Rules!
Knowing that there are many 'country Gospel' songs that I can relate to, and after hearing how the younger generation was expressing their search for God, my son spoke these words of wisdom. "Hey, Mom, do you think that God can only reach people's hearts through 'country' music?" God bless you. Evy
I used to go to JPUSA 76-78 in Chicago when I first came to the Lord. Broken Promises was the first song I ever heard Rez sing. They know how to rock and win souls.
My father played this (and anything else Kaiser/Rez Band) louder than I could - and I was the teenager! I am grateful for Dad's great taste in music and his love for his God.
I was into progressive music before I was into Jesus in the early to mid-1970s. As a baby Christian, coming across this album blended those two loves together for the first time. This song has always had a special place in my heart! Good audio quality and nice video idea - thanks for posting...
Had the privilege of meeting Glenn back in 82 in Newcastle, Australia. I was a stage hand and was helping setup the concert. Prior to the concert, he Sat down beside me and asked the question.... "How long have you been laid up?" Very memorable moment....
Never heard of this band before...oh, of course now I see why, too bad this world does not lift up those who lift us up ...thanks for sharing, peace from Canada
This is one band that had a major impact on my life back in my teen years . I did at one point get to finaly meet the lead singer Glen . Very straight up and true .
this is one of my all time favs! This was one of the first songs that I had ever heard as a Christian when I gave my heart to the Lord in '82 at the age of 12.
Been a fan since 81 and have most of their albums.. I don't understand why people are attacking Christian Rock when it is bringing people to Christ. I started in the Jesus Movement .i even made a special video for Don't Walk On By
I love these guys and have since 1978 with release of Awaiting Your Reply. I saw them in concert and got to spend a great weekend with the band before we had them in Albert Lea MN the weekend after that. They are real genuine brothers and sisters in the Lord.
Good stuff. Great voice. Bluesy Prog colorful guitar. Profound message, without hesitation. I really like this. Seeking out more Rez band. Thanks for sharing. God Bless Us All ❤️
Didn't know this band back in the day, but I am a present day HUGE fan of Glenn Kaiser and have most of his stuff. Rez band may be a little dated, but their sound and their message us timeless. Loved this song! 2 thumbs up! It plays like my autobiography
Great video! One of my favorite bands of all time,i met Rez in the mid80's,wonderful people, they didn't leave until every fan had a chance to talk to them,God bless them! Thanks for posting this video
Its been many many years since I've heard this song. This band this group means a far more deal to me then most of the people and their comments. I say this not out of disrespect, but of knowledge and truth. I loved every comment I've heard, though, there are some of which I have no idea what they are talking about. You see I actually do very much know these people, with family still there. I lived with and worked on their magazine as one of their only two photographers. You can go check,
@glohanel Exactly, I was an addict for 12 years spending the last 4 in the horrified worlkd of mrethamphetamines...I made it out of the pit by Gods grace and mercy some 24 years ago but I struggled during the first year and a half...I made alot of Broken promises, havent we all. Also I too have always beena big Rez band Fan...Back in 1983 I was introduced to the Bootleg Live Cassette and the "meledy" selection in the middle of the tape was my favorite part it had this song as a part of it.
An awesome song that reminds me of Job. Job 34:21-22 For his eyes are upon the ways of man, and he seeth all his goings. There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
This is such a great song to see in a video. I have seen Rez in concert about 5 times back in the 80's. Anyone have any idea how Glenn is doing now? Isn't his wife sick. May God keep his spirit upon him.
Glen and Wendy have successfully turned J.P.U.S.A into a Chicago-based chain of Polish Sausage and Bratwurst stands. wildly profitable at serving NFL Football and Major League Baseball games.
Yes, I was there way back then as it was moving from a paper to a magazine. Just check the contributors credits, you'll find my name. I was then a young man who completely loved with God, long before I ever got there, my hands are still on the plow and I've never looked back. I'm well into my fifty's now. They were wonderful days. I've personally met, some of the top performers of the day. because of my involvement with the magazine. Met them all, you name them. Proud to have been a part.
Was there for five years. Seen so many people come and go. Its not the life for everyone, it has its ups and downs. Despite what they or anyone else might say or want you to believe, the life there has got nothing to do with the book of acts, nor is it a life commanded by God, no, not by a long shot. Overall it was good for me, but not for everyone, and for those don't know the difference, its can be very damaging and destructive. God has called no man to strife.

Many years I have lived.Trying to fill the void.Porn was my stronghold. The lust of the flesh. The 2nd look, even at church.I was saved at age12 but Satan hooked me at age16 with magazines.Enticing me for most of my life.I wanted God and the flesh too. Please help us ladies. We men are weak and we melt like butter.I repented and turned away from my sin. Love this song. But only just seen the video & recognised some of the footage. Some of the 'rail lines' are actually London Underground tracks out of Hammersmith on Picadilly & District lines (I know, I should get a life)
why is it that new christian music can't rock like this im so sick and tired of people trying to sing and wisper at the same time i wanna spit up. people either sing all soft or shout the whole time.
Right on ! I worked at a Christian coffee house/ street mission in MI. when this came out. We had tunes like this on all the time and live bands every Sat. night . It was great, I really miss those times and great people.
XCatfishX I miss the days when Christian bands actually had a signature sound/song that separated them from all the other groups in the industry. The lyrics were thought provoking, mind blowing, and most of all, they were life changing! Now they all do the same type of praise and worship stuff and very rarely go beyond the basics of Christian theology. All you have to do to write a "hit" Christian song is play a basic three chord guitar part ( Any number of Chris Tomlin's will work), rhyme fire with desire, add a few " hallelujahs", mix in some synth bass, drums, and presto!! You've got a Dove award.. Its sad.
I have a buddy of mine who can lay down a beat for anything and he plays in the worship time with me in church however he has a lot of stuff going on with his kids but when the day comes and hes all done we'll be making music with a feeling
Yeah most christian rock and music today really sucks. Im also a big fan of an artist Bryn Haworth ( who knows Glen Kaiser) Ive seen Rez live and they were awesome and i love The Glen Kaiser Blues Band. Check out Bryn Haworth on UTube. Been listening to Bryn Haworth since the 80's. He doesnt perform nor live in the USA and you have to get his music directly from him. Check him out everybody! SHALOM!
How does Rez / Glenn Kaiser feel about gay peeps who believe in Jesus? I'm gay and I believe Jesus is there, and I feel good. And gotta love Rez, saw them live in 90.. Great stuff, Lament and Silence Screams are my favourites.. Peace!

@fragilebeaster (cont'd)... Things I've given up, that seemed huge at the time, ended up being nothing compared to how He blessed me. If He isn't worth at least trusting this area of your life to, then is He really Lord of your life yet? Give Him that chance to show you... then you decide how to respond. Being willing to see your life through God's eyes is one of the most courageous acts... and the most blessed. It's either fear or faith we choose.
My parents were not at all happy my being there. This was not all that long after the whole Jim Jones thing. It was very much still on everyone's mind in America. And boy were they a motley crew, truly a bunch of long haired hippy freaks. I'm talking about the late 70's. The only thing that stopped my parents from dragging my very young stupid and totally naive ass out of there, was the fact I had discovered a cousin there. Believe me, they would have tore down this world to get me out of there.
@fragilebeaster The important thing is your relationship with Christ. No one should judge you for where you are at and the Lord will show you what is of Him, and what isn't. I think the bottom line is this, if something is dividing your relationship with the Lord, then cut it off... cut it out. Nothing is worth taking His place as your god... and doing such a sacrifice will be handsomely blessed in your life... (continued)
Hey, TBHclanOfficial You can live better in This Life, AND in the next one God promised to all who Love, trust & follow HIM. Jesus Christ paid the way to live Forever with Him. In His word He tells us that, "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him"--1 Corinthians 2:9 NIV Hoping you get to know "Jesus". He will help you find your way HOME. Strength & Blessings for You!!
@fragilebeaster who cares how they feel? The question is how do you feel about it? Only an insecure person seeks how another may feel on such a personal subject...looking for validation...Better yet ...How does God feel about it? Not trying to condemn here. I know what I know but I am not trying to hurt or judge here. That's not my job. But your opening question was derogatory in nature.
My friend, Satan believes in Jesus.Read Romans chapter 1.I have been delivered from a life of porn.At the foot of the cross I met Jesus. He did not condemn me, no, He stood there with open arms saying I love you, son. That is why I died on the cross.I have paid for your sins in full.Finished.My friend, repent and turn away from sin. Let Him love you. He paid a great price for you and me.I stand humbly before a Holy God who loves me no matter what I have done.He hates the sin but loves the sinner.
My father played this (and anything else Kaiser/Rez Band) louder than I could - and I was the teenager! I am grateful for Dad's great taste in music and his love for his God.
My good friend, Pastor Cameron Price, went on to be with the Lord this day. I remembered he shared this group with me when we were in Bible college together some back in 99/2000. 8 years later and your testimony is still just as powerful now as it was the day you posted this. Thank God for you!!
How is possible that someone just turned me on to this band, I been walking with Jesus 10 years? Lots of catching up to do. This song is amazing.
Sorry about that, dude. First Christian rock concert I was taken to 1979. Amazing! Wendy sounds like a female Robert Plant, Glen preaches, 2 hecklers, one if whom
I've known them 40 years. Still amazing,
Now 18 years hopefully ❤
I'm in Gods presence listening to this song. I have church everytime I listen to it. I'm about to be 61 and my conversion was no different than Pauls on the road to Damascus. God got me when I was 19 and never let me go
First heard this in 1982 ... became a part of me and my theology and now as a Army Chaplain sitting in my office it is as powerful today (maybe even more so) as it was as a youth. God Bless you for your service - JPUSA
what a powerful testimony! 10 years down the road and your words still reaching out! Thank you Jesus.
Our life is full of brokenness - broken relationships, broken promises, broken expectations. How can we live with that brokenness without becoming bitter and resentful except by returning again and again to God's faithful presence in our lives. -- Henri Nouwen
Wow! That's really good! LIFE IS FULL OF BROKENNESS! But He is not! He builds. He only breaks (US) to better heal!
Amen to that!
Oh we have all had broken promises to our God. Thank his mighty name he is very forgiving. And more patient than mankind. Bless the name of Jesus my Lord
This is one of the best songs of all time (IMHO). Amazing vulnerability and passion.
Song hits right in the gut. I am so far away...broken promises, broken by me and not by you. Lord snap my stubborn heart into two.
Troy Bowman It does the same for me as well.
So, update. How are you now
are you from mn.?

I made a decision for Jesus also in 82, I used to visit Rez band up in Malden Street I believe it was and loved every minute of it.
This was one of my wife's favorite songs when she fist got born again. It ministered to her a lot. Yes Rez is one of the greatest bands of all time.
Classic song! God is faithful, He never changes.
Knowing that there are many 'country Gospel' songs that I can relate to, and after hearing how the younger generation was expressing their search for God, my son spoke these words of wisdom. "Hey, Mom, do you think that God can only reach people's hearts through 'country' music?" God bless you. Evy

Nicely done video - prodigal son emphasis. The song really seems to bring a lot out of people's souls

Love this song.
But only just seen the video & recognised some of the footage. Some of the 'rail lines' are actually London Underground tracks out of Hammersmith on Picadilly & District lines (I know, I should get a life)
Why does it seem like almost every Rez video has an Eric Holder look a like in it? This one and I just watched Love Comes down. Same same...
Excellent!
i was unaware that they made videos back in the 70's unless it was on the midnight special.
it was 1982 when "GODGOTAHOLDONME" too, and throught This song and others like it.
From the disc *Awaiting Your Reply**(1978)*
It's a good slow rock ballad,rey 7-12-12 from hawaii,oahu.
why is it that new christian music can't rock like this im so sick and tired of people trying to sing and wisper at the same time i wanna spit up. people either sing all soft or shout the whole time.
I know how you feel bro! This kind of people dont undestand that we can praise the Lord in all music styles!

Good Blues
Sitting here wonderung if god is real
Is without a doubt friend. Have a talk with him and give him the opportunity to show up in your life.
Jesus
@fragilebeaster The important thing is your relationship with Christ. No one should judge you for where you are at and the Lord will show you what is of Him, and what isn't. I think the bottom line is this, if something is dividing your relationship with the Lord, then cut it off... cut it out. Nothing is worth taking His place as your god... and doing such a sacrifice will be handsomely blessed in your life... (continued)
yep
Hey, TBHclanOfficial You can live better in This Life, AND in the next one God promised to all who Love, trust & follow HIM. Jesus Christ paid the way to live Forever with Him. In His word He tells us that,
"No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him"--1 Corinthians 2:9 NIV Hoping you get to know "Jesus". He will help you find your way HOME. Strength & Blessings for You!!
Christians living in community is nowhere near being marxist.
#LyricsMatter
