  • Today, we talk with BCBA and preschool teacher, Farrah Benson. Farrah shares strategies, ideas, and personal examples from her experience on how to embed ABA into the classroom. In this episode, we find that best practice teachers and BCBAs have so much in common when it comes to using ABA in the classroom. Farrah also gives advice based on her experience to both long-time BCBAs as well as newly minted BCBA for both in the classroom and in their general practice.

As an rbt I've had a lot of issues with a full time client at a private daycare. The lack of instructional control is a major one, but the other major issue is the instructors either deliberately not letting my client perform a task independently (or give them enough time) or outright doing the opposite of what the programs we're running require. I work with my client for 30+ hours in this setting, it is extremely difficult.

Such a challenge! Can the BCBA supervisor do some training in the daycare on the importance of following the programs?

Hi! I currently own a preschool and would like to open a therapy program within the school. We have had many rbts come in the past and do 1 on 1 therapy with some of our students. My question is, how do I go about doing this? Do I need to do rbt training myself? And how does scheduling a bcba work to supervise the rbts? (I wouldn’t be an active rbt, I would just be managing the program.) Thank you!

That's an awesome idea! I love the integration of education and ABA :). Start with finding a good BCBA to work with in setting things up. RBT's should receive direct supervision for at least 5% of their hours but more will probably be required at the beginning for training and setup. You don't have to be an RBT if you're doing the direct therapy but you should learn as much as you can about ABA!
