Hello from Ventura QF (saw your sticker). That pretty much settled my awning questions, seems like a great set up. I hunt often in the desert and the awning will keep me and the pooch much more comfortable.

Desert quail sound like a lot of fun! I've been happy with the awning. Hopefully that will make things more comfortable for you guys. Thanks for watching and for your comment! Good hunting!

I use a 8 foot sportbrella. Can be set up in less than 2 minutes. The single pole can be placed on tail gate for support or go on down to ground so tail gate and truck cap can be closed while attached. The two wings with grommets can be staked down to ground or slid between tail gate supports(cables). Two of the grommets can be attached by sting to wheels of truck . I have pre tied loop I hook over end of helper spring bolts. I have the midrise topper and the sportbrella looks like it was made for the topper. I extend the edge of sportbrella approximately 1 foot over top of topper for best protection from rain. The rain Shedds off with no puddling. Not sure why I haven't seen anyone using this item when truck cap camping. It is by far the best all around option period.

Thanks for your comment. Sounds like a good setup. You should make a video so folks like myself can benefit from your experience. Thanks again.

I can't figure out how to attach photos. Sure would not be able to create, edit and upload video. Would send you a photo or video and let you demonstrate.

In looking at it now, I'm not sure I see how to add a photo either. But I can add this link for Sport Brella www.sportbrella.com/

Nice video, thanks! Have you tried to figure out some side walls with tarps, to increase privacy and weather protection?

Thanks for your comment! I haven't done that yet, but it's a good idea to think about. It's strong enough that you could probably clip a tarp along the length of the awning and let hang down. In fact, I will give that a try this fall. Thanks again!

Where did you get the pole that runs along the wedge of the truck. I need one that is 9 feet for the moonshade but can’t find one anywhere.

Hey... I'm not sure exactly which pole that is. For me, all of the poles that I show in the video I got from Moonshade when I purchased the awning. The only exception is the two poles that cross across the top... they were bent in a snowstorm, and I ordered new ones from Moonshade. Sorry if I'm misunderstanding your question.

@@thebirdbum9182 well the moon shade comes with four poles, but you are using five poles. The one that’s runs along the top of the truck that doesn’t come with the moon shade.

@@Garyash92 Oh, that pole that I use the magnets on did come with the Moonshade when I purchased it. I can't remember if I had to specifically request it with the order or not (as an extra), but I did get it from Moonshade.

@@thebirdbum9182 The way you talk about the pole that you use the magnets on - you said you just got it. Doesnt sound like it came from Moonshade and it looks thicker then all the other poles. oh well I guess I will keep looking.

Looks really nice. I like that this awning isn’t permanently attached and can be used on both of my trucks. The only problem I have is that I don’t have a roof rack on one of my trucks, so that means I’m stuck using the suction cups. I have concerns about windy conditions like we have at the beach. The Outer Banks is famous for the wind. I like the idea of taking the awning off when away from camp, but would be concerned if the wind starts blowing it would tuen into a kite while I was gone unless I weighed it down with something. Thanks for your review!

Thanks for your comment! I apologize for my slow response. I completely understand your concerns and think you are making good points. In terms of wind, even with the magnets I still use a zip tie to secure it to the roof rack when it's windy. I don't know if you would have any way to do something similar? Also, you're right in terms of the wind maybe blowing it away. If I'm leaving it for a while and it's very windy, I'll fasten down the two long sides of the awning to the ground using tent steaks. That seems to work... not really allowing much wind to get under it. I wish I had better solutions for you. Have fun at the beach!

everybody is doing the two center hooks wrong. The two hooks go on the the top pole and the other pole just passes under in between the two strap/hooks. Very clear on moonshade website video. exactly at 1:31.

You are correct... I figured that out since I made the video. That said, I didn't really have any problems with it the way I had it either. Thanks for your comment.

The magnets hold on pretty well with the wind? I had tried them when I first got my Moonshade and they shifted on me, but I think that might have been just because I didn’t properly guyline the awning down

    • @thebirdbum9182
      @thebirdbum9182  ปีที่แล้ว

I had a similar problem with shifting, but I started using a zip tie to hold the magnet pole more firmly to the roof rack. That took care of the problem. Thanks for your comment, and let me know if you have any more questions about that.
