    As someone who's a stewart for my sim racing League I have to deal with this exact scenario at least once a week. There are two ways to look at it some drivers see it as the driver completing the passes obligation to complete the pass clean and any contact is their fault. In other words if you get a nose in there and then someone goes to shut the door it's you who is obligated to lift and let that person shut the door. Been there's the other shoe he sees it as kind of unfair to expect the person to have to lift or get on the brakes to keep from causing an accident. Usually what I do first is look to see if the passing car dive bombed them in there, were they five car links back before they got to the breaking zone? Once I can find it it wasn't a dive bomb I look to see who held their line. Passing car holds their line and doesn't slide up into the car being passed that I can't put any blame on the car attempting the pass. The car that is being passed cuts down across the nose of the car passing them then that's on them for not holding their line and giving the car on the inside space. But of course we all know how NASCAR fans will look at it it's whichever driver I like the most was in the right and whichever one I don't like was definitely the one that was in the wrong

      @Tre Turner I try to be a very fair stewart. Track etiquette is kind of like social etiquette everybody has their own ideas of what's right and what's wrong and none of that matters it's who pays me off lol. But really if it's not a dive bomb situation it comes down to who holds there line. I tell guys all the time your not entitled to your line. If he's thare he's thare. He's not entitled to lift and let u have the apex. Still hear people say it was "my corner"🙄 so they're not entirely wrong a lot of FIA regulations state that is the passing cars responsibility to lift and let you have the Apex unless you are past the a-pillar or the driver of the opposing car. I don't agree with this but they're surprising number of people who do. That is until they're the one trying to complete the past and then which case they expect I totally cut down across me I was there. Never a bigger bunch of hypocrites than race car drivers lol.

    • @slimbrady6691
      @slimbrady6691 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There comes a point where you're so far beside them that you're obligated to that line and if they come down on you, that's on them, not you. To me, that point is somewhere between 1/3 and 1/2 of the way beside them. If you get that far and they run you down low and you make contact, that's just racing. Larson was well past the point of being obligated to that line, he did nothing wrong.

    • @robertstone9988
      @robertstone9988 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@slimbrady6691 some would say if I got a inch in there you better treat it like a foot. This is where I just have to use my best judgment when handing out of penalty. I have to take into account how far into the race is this happening, is it lap four of a 25 lap race? Or is this the last turn on the last lap coming to the line? Who either one of these drivers have a history of being a d-bag? What kind of racing we're doing my league has Open wheel road course racing, stock car short track oval racing, and sports cars as well. If the Larson belt incident happened in my league and I was reviewing it my verdict would be..... No penalty to either driver I would tell Belle you have to respect a guy if he's to your inside can't expect him to lift and just give you the position, and to Larson I would say (and mind you my replays I would have the benefit of looking at your data so I know when you're breaking I know when you're on the gas and I know when you're actively avoiding an accident and when your not) I would tell him it may not have been your fault but don't make it a habit because it's not fun to race out there when everybody out there hates you from nobody respects you. And just because you're not obligated to lift and let him have the Apex doesn't mean that it's not the right thing to do especially if it's not for the win or turn three on lap three of a 40 lamp race. If your truly faster than him you will get another opportunity. Even when it's not your fault it's still a bad look and next time when you get into somebody they'll remember when you got into the other person and those situations add up and you'll end up being the next Joey logano. If I accidentally step on someone's heel in line they'll forgive me accidents happen but if I develop a reputation of someone who steps on people's heels and line nobody cares nor do they want to hear that I held my line. You build Goodwill and that gives you a leg of stand on in a situation like this.

And dont say you couldnt because its above your age because theres a book for young er people. The driver says this after he got wrecked. It was my fault for being in that situation. So it is never 100% a drivers fault. Kyle shouod have read the signs that bell wasnt going to give the position up easily and backed off, and waited until he had a better run. Like the inner loop. Im not saying bell was in the right here, but kyle needs to realize that just because your a privliged hendrick driver, doesnt mean they are going to just let you pass them.
