What happens if the chips are just heated to the melting temperature and a nugget is formed? I realize it will be a 'dirty' gold alloy, but what percentage?
Just need a bit more like a large cupel, or scourification plate and a collector metal. But that's the pyrometallurgy path with direct smelting. This is a chemical reaction method. Both work, just one is better for some applications, since the nugget will also contain other precious metals.

4:03 isn't the tin in the filter paper? Why remove it first and then put it back for the burning process?
It still contain gold, if the tin disolve the gold would also realease also this solder remover would disolve silver too, so you need to recovery it.
