- Few Canadians have any connection to our depleted military, fewer still enlist, and the number who consider joining a special branch of a foreign country’s forces that began as a way to soak up society’s dregs must be vanishingly small. Yet that was the path chosen by Joel Struthers, and his five years spent in the French Foreign Legion don’t seem to have done him any lasting harm. I just have purchased this book authored by Joel Struthers. I look forward to peruse it! It could be a good inspiration for my workout routine in the gym (I wish I could be as fit as a commando paratrooper of La Légion Etrangère). From Mexico -former battlefield of the Légion- I send my respects and admiration to Mr. Struthers.

Still use my Legionare name now. It was a life. Would not suggest it to anyone but the most dedicated. You got 2REP because of your language. Believe it or not. I was truly impressive and got 13Dble. East European mostly get 3REI the looser troops. There still is a pecking order even in the Legion. I did make Sargent and spent my last two years as Gestapo. If you have no idea what I was. Here is not the place to talk about it.

Je pense que la nationalité la moins présente dans la légion sont les canadiens. C’est une curiosité pour les autres légionnaire. Un genre de licorne « j’en connais un au 2 reg » « mon pot à fait son permis avec un ». Yen a toujours un qui sort de nul par que tu ne savais pas qu’il était là. Legio patria nostra
