Korn wasn't just a band for kids with long hair, it was a band for kids everywhere who needed a place to channel anger. This band literally kept me sane and saved my life.
I wish younger people could have experienced just how fucking unique Korn was compared to everything else at the time, even in a decade where a ton of interesting unique shit was coming out.
Yeah it's really hard for kids who didn't grow up listening to them or were born after their heyday to really grasp but just how revolutionary they were. At the time that they really hit big, you still had some holdouts from '80s hair metal, grunge was really big, hardcore punk was somewhat a thing although more underground. I was born in 86 and grew up listening to hair metal and grunge. I wanted something heavier so while hardcore punk with artists like Earth Crisis kind of scratched that itch, everything in the genre sounded the same. When I first heard Korn I was blown away. It was heavy. It was dark. It was angsty. It was angry. Most importantly it was unique and fresh. A decent comparison would be looking at the original Star wars back in 1977. Nowadays the special effects and cinematography still hold up decently well but obviously can't hold a candle to what we have now but if you look at it in the context of the day, it was 10 years ahead of everything else and partly the reason why it became such a cultural phenomenon, because of the context surrounding when it came up.
@@FIDEL_CASHFLOW_ I was born in 96 and have been listening to them since about 2000 when my dad showed them to me so I kinda remember the old days but wasn't fully there. I am forever jealous of people a decade older than me lol
Just finished a documentary on HBO about this music festival. They had Jonathan Davis on and he said that he went as hard as he possibly could for the entire set and when he walked off stage he laid down on the ground and people had to put ice bags over him to cool him down. Legendary musician. Legendary band.
Love munky and heads guitar work. So simple yet spooky. They came at a time when you thought the guitar didnt have any new directions left in it. Along came these weird ass dimented 7 string sounds. Underrated.
when i was younger this was by far my favorite korn song. I used to mow my lawn for my gramps and i would listen to this on headphones on repeat for hours while i shredded that grass lol
@@deadroses19 There isn't a lot of note clarity in the music. It's a term that guitarists use a lot to describe a guitar tone when the distorted guitar doesn't hold a lot of note definition and sounds...muddy. It was because of the times, the downtuned guitar and copious amounts of gain. We hadn't learned quite yet on how to EQ and mix things for those lower tunings like we do now. You can listen to a song now that is a full octave lower than what Korn tunes to but hear better note definition in the riffs.
@@SavedbyGraceAlone84 That’s interesting, I had already noticed that but I never thought people looked into that. Guitars on korn songs on their early records often sound kinda weak, comparing to slipknot or other nu metal bands. Still I don’t think it affects the album that much
@@johnd3124 even if it is "muddy", it's PERFECT. Goes hand in hand with the raw, balls to the walls intense as shit sound. New recordings are so "perfect" now they're sterile sounding, and in the end, just sucks. I'll take muddy over perfect Any day.
It just amazes me at how they sound good live. They are jumping all around and it looks like they're going crazy but the notes and all of it... it's perfect
2:46 I saw this clip of the performance before I really even knew about korn, and I swear I thought he was saying “Why’d you get the book out of my barn, now” 😂
I barely even know who Korn was back in 1999. There were so many people at Woodstock, and yes there was chaos, especially at the last day they had a mini riot. But now I know who Korn is, I've probably seen them more than any other band.
i was at both the 94 and 99, you will think im lying to but idk.. I know i was tere and i will remeber it for the rest of my life , and will think about tho's 2 fucking insane days of some of the greatest music .. On my death bed..
+Rickey Ryan I was there but in so much acid shrooms and others stuff it was a big blend I remember those flags draped on side of stage fucking with me so bad!lol
Funny how back then when I felt like a misfit I felt like KoRn knew how to ease the pain and today I’m back here listening to this and feeling the same way!
This band....man this band has gotten me through it all like this is more than a band this band is so special to me and it always will be thank you guys for all the help
This song was just out, when the most horrible thing happened in my life. I remember pulling over to the side of the road, just to cry....especially when he sings, "beating me down, beating me, beating me, down, down, into the ground..." and "falling away from me". Best music for someone who just got destroyed.
im a 15 year old and korn has been so important to me for a couple years now and ive been getting into other metal genres for the past year maybe but korn will always be my #1 favorite band ever i fucking love korn j devil is king and og and i love korn
Holy shit I love this band. I was 11 when this took place and I was a masssive fan. They definitely helped me cope with a lot of crazy trauma type shit. I just didn’t realize that’s what their music was doing for me.
I traveled the states to see Pantera but when I went a Korn show...... Holy hell, it was big arena and they were the loudest band I've ever seen. Ceiling tiles fell they were so loud. R.i.p. Hara area Dayton Ohio.....
See kids, this is Aura you so commonly refer to. An ocean of people feeding off of 5 people's energy. I would give anything to experience this. Not a fucking cellphone in sight, just living the moment together

I am not a kid anymore and their music saves me everyday! It helps me release anger daily! They also are so damn cute!!
👏👏
You sir are exactly correct Korn got me through my darkest periods in life! Thanks to Korn absolute gods #respect
Same I’m 14 and korn saved me I wanted to be dead
yes

I’m a Dominican kid from Brooklyn who grew up in the 90s. Yes Korn spoke to me - They encapsulated a sound that was funk hip hop metal.

you can't deny that crowd energy hasn't been anything like it before or since.
Netflix doc is better
He was on the Netflix doc
Probably because they were all high as hell on meth during the whole set
@@PokitopokeWhat’s the Netflix documentary called I’d love to watch it
God that "NOWWWWW" is even better live than on the album. JD is the best singer ever, so much emotion, god (My personal opinion, not a fact)
I’ll back you up on that comment: JD is like our generation’s Freddie Mercury. I will die on this hill
Facts
that was bigger than Break Stuff mosh pit during that festival
But break stuff mosh pit recorded longer + with daylight
I got GOOSEBUMPS ❤

You were right, except for one thing: not underrated at all (in fact, kinda a little the opposite).
@Customer Service Exactly!!!! Love Fear Factory
I agree
@Customer Service I dont know about that. KoRn is OG. If anything, like Coal Chamber or something more with that Nu Metal sound.
The sad thing is they no longer write those dark and eerie riffs…it’s all just groove these days.

epic tale !
Yeah man
Love this comment man, what an image lol
This is my favorite Korn song, I'm young.
Bruhhhhhh same!!! I used to mow the lawn all the time with this blasting on repeat along with the rest of the life is peachy album
I'm only 12 and they have already changed my life so much in such a small time frame.
I thank my sister.
Life is Peachy is and always will be my favorite Korn album. Yeah its mix is muddy but the song writing was so good. The intensity was just crazy.

first korn song i ever heard ❤️❤️❤️
I can't believe this was mainstream at the time
This is the KoRn that I love. Too bad they don't even sound the same anymore.
Yeah they are almost playing for 20 years... Whatchu expect?
Didn't say it's a bad thing, fan boy, just that their evolution wasn't nearly as good as it could have been.
Briar Rose then dont listen to them -_-
Listen the new song
Korn - insane
I’ve never heard Korn live, but shiiiiit - they can hold their own on the stage.
Get out of my foice
In the sea of life, you're just a minnow.
fred durst on bass for this song
that's fieldy dumbass

fuck Korn was the shit back then ! I fucking enjoyed listen to them back then!!!

Hats off to them for playing it at the same tempo as the album version. So often bands play their songs live at way too fast of a tempo. Not here.
