Here in New Zealand, we don't get many American cars... there are definitely more English cars than American, but most are Japanese and European cars (what does this have to do with anything? well typically Japanese and European cars don't leak as much oil as American and English cars, so we don't have a huge oil spill up the centre of the lane, so the coarse chip surface in the tyre tracks tend to get pushed down into the tar, leaving those two strips as the slippery bits in the wet. the thing to watch out for on the winding roads with forest either side, is the moss that grows in the continually shaded areas. It was on one of those patches after coming up and over a hill and into a bend over the crest that I discovered ABS will not let the bike slow down even the slightest bit, yet digging the rear brake through the moss and into the road surface would have slowed the bike... I had to gently divert my course and weave between rocks on the road left by cars that had lost control and hit the bank on the side of the road sending debris everywhere. I too headed off the road, "but by choice" as there was more grip in the gravel on the road edge than the road itself! I was able to stop, but no thanks to the ABS that refused to let any brake pressure be applied at all, it was the overgrown vegetation in the ditch that I chose to slow me down and bring me to a stop! As for Painted lines... Auckland transport is all about removing private transport as an option and forcing people to use Public transport run by Auckland Transport. (so they can benefit financially, and yes this IS extortion!) So bus stops that Block the rest of traffic and take up an entire lane are everywhere, they even put them on bends, including Blind corners... and because the whole lane has Bus Stop painted right the way across it, there is no avoiding riding over the paint. there is a very small window to get between the Letters of the Bus stop & the broken yellow outline painted on the road, but if you nip the edge of one, the slip and jerk is terrifying on a bike. but this is probably a deliberate paint choice to cause as many crashes as they can in order to get people to use busses that take forever to get nowhere near where you need to go & never when you need to get there!
Honestly, when it comes to mentioning cars in America it is less about it being about American cars but more about Americans in general due to hardly no one taking care of their cars and they just ride them to the dirt and then wonder what happened. When it comes to vehicles in America whether Domestic or Import you can guarantee an American will ruin it one way or another to where something is leaking. hahaha
I ride year round by choice, and Love the smell when riding in the rain. I wear the same gear all year so sometimes I'm really hot, really cold, or really soaked. I feel what my tires feel, Safe Travels!
