I bought one. Love love it. Peppy not quick but cruises along at 80 and has passing power. Quite ride. Comfortable on long trips. Tons of room in second row. Third row I passed on. I don't have little kids. About all it's good for. I do fit. As I am 6' and 235. Bigger build. But I'm flexible. LoL. Absolutely love the out the door prices. $25k here in NJ loaded SE. As I didn't want the glass roof. Kayak and glass... Didn't see that being a good idea. Will still watch these videos as I love your work. Thanks again !!
Great review! The only 2018 Tiguan review that actually explained how the drive selector modes differ from one another! I decided to get an SEL Premium. Well done and thank you, Everyman Driver! I’m glad I found this channel. Will visit here for car reviews in the future!
I just bought a 2019 SE front wheel drive in titanium gray. It’s not perfect but I love it. I just wish it had an adjustable front center armrest. Appreciate this video Dave!
I like it. Test drove a 2 wheel drive the other day, but only want a 4 motion which was not sent to my local dealership. The SEL Premium digital display was like driving an airplane. Would love to see you do one of your week long test drives with this. Very impressed with this vehicle. Probably my next purchase.
Good luck, look in ur mail box for ur 7 recall notices. I own one, ambient roof can catch fire, ball joints, just the beginning. Look up Tiguan recalls. Sorry to tell u, but has problems.

I just bought the 2018 Tiguan SE (traded in my 2016 RAV4). I wish these reviews weren't ALWAYS of the top of the line packages. The two things in the SE model I would like to see 1) adaptive cruise (only in SEL and SEL Premium) and 2) a regular sunroof, but really love the drive. I'd have to say cabin is quieter than my RAV4 was.
@@wocaomade Any issues? I got a 2019 Tiguan R-line and I like it so far.... but I am planning on keeping it for the long run - solid 10 years.... thats the minimum most of these vehicles should be able to do.... I just want to be ready for any issues that may crop up.
@@TheRealK6 Glad you went for the R-line. (I would go for that if I had a second chance to pick) :( I am planning on the same thing. I think doing the proper maintenance should just make it happen. Not sure about other parts, but the engine is the good old EA888 (newer generation but they have had the same model for a long time). I would say don't floor the gas when the car just started up in cold weather and you should be fine, otherwise the turbo might develop excessive wear. Good luck! Btw it has backup camera washer in case you don't know (Took me a year)
My Family owned 2014 Awd Honda's CR-V with 2.5 liter which was very good in acceleration. Exchanged old crv for new crv 2018 with 1.5 turbo engine. You will only get old 2.5 as base model rest all the version are 1.5 turbo engine. We would say this new honda 1.5 turbo sucks badly in Honda CR-V. It has a very bad turbo lag and Slow to accelerate. Another aspect we realised this new Honda 1.5 turbo engine is all new meaning with lots of errors before it will be refined in the long term. Until then we would be a test subjects. Compared to Tiguan which 2.0 Turbo , Cr-v has a smaller engine. In Tiguan power comes early rpm. Also Tiguans New 8 speed Transmission is from Aisin Japan and guess what Toyota , Lexus also use this same product which makes Tiguan reliable in Transmission department. As everyone says turbo engines are bad and unreliable how can anyone say Honda's turbo engine will be different from others and reliable, when they just recently launched this engine in US? On the other side VW are making turbo engines for a long time and their 1.8 Tsi E888 Gen 3 engines are the testimony of long time perfection and have been reliable without any major issues and this new 2.0 E888 Gen 3b in Tiguan is the refinement version of prior generation. I strongly feel VW turbo engine will be more reliable than 1.5 Honda Turbo engine. Inshort it will be too early to say 1.5 Honda Turbo engines are reliable and last more than 10 years.
I find it hard to judge an AWD SUV/CUV untill I see how well it drives in really bad snow. And I'm not talking about a paltry small few inches of the white stuff either. It's one of the reasons why I've been leaning towards the Forester or CX-5. If Jeeps were more reliable, the new Cherokee or new Compass would be higher on my list too, but alas, they tend not to be.
Matt Olfson I had a 2015 Tiguan that was a total beast in all kinds of snow (Colorado) with good all season tires. I now have a Touareg TDI which is even better. Vw uses the same smart 4motion as Audi and you can actually feel when it shifts power to the wheels with grip. I've never thought twice about going out even in huge blizzards.
ElementalWk The CRV and Mazda CX 5 are far better choices than the VW. As they age, the VW will require more expensive maintenance and has a higher transmission and electronics failure rate. Avoid.
My VW had 3-4 sensors replaced, pwr window mechanism and many light bulbs in 17 years, 160k miles. Most under warranty. My total cost of all repairs is under $100. Original clutch, never needed wheel alignment or AC recharge. No rattles, car feels solid as the day I bought it. Had a Mazda as 2nd car. Engine oil leak, heater broke, transmission failed at 70k, water pump failed at 76k. On another Mazda zero problems but suspension wore out and engine failed at 100k. I prefer the feel of a VW. It doesn't win in performance but has a pleasant feel and handling. Best to drive one for a year and then you can tell. If reliability is so important, let's all buy Corollas.
Actually the hump down in the middle is to house the all wheel drive shaft that transfers power to the rear axle, so not "useless" at all except when front wheel drive is the selected version...
The size increase is just what it needed, but now it competes with VW's own Atlas. I can see some cannibalization there. I read that the material used in Atlas is cheap; how is it in the Tiguan?
What ruins this design for me is the elongated rear doors, they don't fit the rest of the car. I wish VW had evened out the B pillars and made them more proportionate
Dave, I have been watching your videos for a while, great job!!! , I really want to like the new Tiguan. but, I hear from people who are one one extreme to the other... most haters think it's sluggish on take off, but other than that. seems to be a good choice !!! I am still a VW fan, but This is a deal breaker if it's really weak and sluggish... The CR-V is looking good right now!, what do you think?
ORV park or not?? Would be nice to test hill climb capability. Is long version available, this version is not so spacious like CR-V, X-trail, CX-5, X3, Q5, santa-fe etc. But again I would not buy anything with CVT.
At least there is no CVT unlike Honda, who will suffer from issues with transmissions just like Nissan, Mitsubishi , and sadly, Toyota. These companies use cheap rubber belts on the CVT transmissions which break after 70kms . Don’t buy these cars with CVT transmissions , only if they have a metal chain .
Okan Çelik The CX 5 is just as fun to drive as the VW - and the ride is very smooth. Mazdas are also generally more reliable than VW, so i had to personally pick one, it would be the Mazda
Small SUV's are female cars. Really SUV's in general. You want sporty, mild off roading and fun to drive get a lifted Wagon like the Allroad or the Alltrack. Females like the added ride height like high heels.
Dont buy this car, i own one, several recall notices. The ambient lighting the worse can catch fire!!! Yep. B4 you buy it, look up Tiguan recalls. Over 7. !! V. W. In its infinite wisdom has not made theses defects public. Look it up. I own one.
Anthony F Do you really have to post on every video? Any smart buyer looks up recalls prior to buying. No there shouldn't be 7 recalls, but at least they are doing something about it unlike other manufacturers. I guarantee you other brands have many issues that they just ignore even after several people reporting them.
The Dude Yes i have to. Hows that? To bad, hows that? Any more questions? Until they fix it, which they cant, i will keep doing it. Do you have a problem with it ? You let me know. P. S. Mind ur business ok. !!!

Haven't seen one of these yet, but I'm starting to see tons of Atlas on the road here in SLC. They are very good looking in person!

I was in Germany two weeks ago and got to look at a 4 Motion R line in Grey. So nice with the technology package
I like it. Test drove a 2 wheel drive the other day, but only want a 4 motion which was not sent to my local dealership. The SEL Premium digital display was like driving an airplane. Would love to see you do one of your week long test drives with this. Very impressed with this vehicle. Probably my next purchase.
Now this is the information I want in a review! Thanks awesome job!
Purchased. 2018 Tiguan SEL a few weeks ago and absolutely love this car! Feels great on the road and has amazing safety features. Highly recommend it.
Do you have a b pillar rattle?
Good luck, look in ur mail box for ur 7 recall notices. I own one, ambient roof can catch fire, ball joints, just the beginning. Look up Tiguan recalls. Sorry to tell u, but has problems.
Have you had noise issues around the B-pillar/roof area?
my family all now call them "O-blank" handles because I watch your channel so much.
I have been a customer at Autonation in Spokane Valley.

What was the price difference between the Rav4 and the Tiquan would you say?
One full year later.... still like the Tiguan????
@@TheRealK6 I still do. It's been almost 1.5 years

Great video that’s correct a lot of others show the Tiguan with 7 seats it’s called Tiguan all space you know the difference.

Lol the atlas just came out what are you talking about moron jeez you really didn’t own a Volkswagen to know enough information
Mine is great in the snow
I lived near Salt Lake City and have a 2013 Tiguan SEL my daily driver it is awesome in the snow!
I want to like it so badly... but the CR-V has more space and the CX-5 is the looker. Additionally both are cheaper.

Plus on the CR-V amazingly Honda designed it with no hump down the middle! So much for German Engineering.

The EURO version is MUCH nicer looking. I hope VW offers it here as well.

So nice.
The r line has better stance, when it comes to looks.
I want a used 2018 S model same new frame .
Dave, does the new Tiguan or the new CX5 drive better?
Okan Çelik tough to say. They made this one more sporty but Mazda usually drives well too. I would wait till the 2018 R line version comes out
Okan Çelik The CX 5 is just as fun to drive as the VW - and the ride is very smooth. Mazdas are also generally more reliable than VW, so i had to personally pick one, it would be the Mazda

Take it to the ORV park! :)

Bloated, too big for it's engine.
Why Americans just can't pronounce Volkswagen like the rest of the world does? It's pronounced "F"olkswagen.
