  • Taking a look at the 6 Tooth Trimmer you often see sold around the socials. Do they cut well, or are they just another gimmick? Similar to the Steel Wire Trimmer Heads.

I have had one of these for approx. 10 years and it's still going strong. It looks identical, except the rivets on mine look more chunky and have rounded heads both sides.
It's been fitted to a Stihl and currently on a 52cc Parker.
It goes through pretty much anything up to about an inch live and 1/2 inch hard dead wood. It eats up thumb size hard bramble stems and the like, and when sharpened does a good job on grass too.
I have to run a dremel over the leading edges (yes, like yours, it's reversable) to keep it sharp.
The blades are no longer flat, some are twisted slightly at the end and some have 1-2mm chunks missing from my clumsy hitting bricks, metal work, etc.
But when you do hit something solid, unlike a solid disc cutter, it does feel like it gives much more.
I'm very impressed with mine, and haven't used cord now for ages!
Oh yes, mine fits lovely on the brush cutter head, but I do use an adaptor to make sure it's centred - not sure if the adaptor came with it, it it's one I had with another attachment bought in the mists of time.

I got one, it’s great on grass, but up against brick, stone, or a fence, it is much too strong and damages whatever it touches. I then learnt why we use string. String is strong enough to cut grass but soft enough it doesn’t destroy everything else.

This is what I've been thinking. I only use them at the edges of fences and walls because in open areas a LAWNMOWER is much better.

Hi sir. I am from India. I have recently purchased this blade from local shop. I haven't used it yet. I always use two teeth blade or chain type head. Two teeth blade consume less gas than six teeth blade treemer attachment due to high rpm running while using six teeth blade. Tow teeth blade works very fine on low rpm and cut around one inch Dia bushes easily.

I've just bought one but haven't used it yet, I like you didn't like the look of those rivets holding the blades. So I replaced them with stainless steel button head bolts and nylock nuts they are much safer. Oh I might add those rivets came out easy doesn't say much for how secure they weren't.

My first thought when seeing these on the internet- that head rotating at high speed - rivets aren’t enough - if one of those little blades come flying off it will be like a bullet - injury or death of user or passerby.

Great review, did it last or did the plate buckle and twist, the rivets wear and loosen, or the blades fly off? I use the metal head and 2 separate helical plastic line insert, can chew through most stuff except hard woody material lines last about an hour on average including chopping up some woody annual shrubs and briars. It’s about half way between ordinary trimmer line and the normal brush cutter head in cutting/flailing ability. I know it’s safe, apart from the usual occasional missiles that fly up from ground/vegetation.

You mentioned the most important issue: the rivets. It is not coincidence the major companies does not sell these blades (or I did not find them there).
One should not buy this just for the safety reasons. Add to safety the sitting problem, which causes additional vibration to both machine and hands. Add to that the very dubious benefit of use (what it is in comparison to 3 knives blade?).
Obvious verdict: do NOT use these trimmer heads - yiu have string head and standard one piece metal head and that will do the job efficiently and most importantly securely.

Great review, thanks. I have two questions: 1. Would it be any good for edging a lawn? 2. Do you think a bent-shaft trimmer would have enough power to run it? Cheers.

    • @Jerram89
      @Jerram89  ปีที่แล้ว +2

It would be ok for edging but no doubt the blades or at least tips would become blunt if they spent a good deal of time in contact with rock/concrete or even dirt for that matter.
Bent shaft machine should be fine.

For edging, to be honest better no use .
Very good on tuff weeds , nettle, tall strong grass.
Dangerous - if you catch a stone , brick , metal , blade may brake .
I had one broken , my luck fly away. , No one injured. Very lucky .

Hi, how does one get a backyard full of really weird thick runner grass that clumps together in colonies deep in the soil. Also about 3 inch mat of dead grass. I find it excellent for a really deep cut right down into the dirt and these weeds clumps under the ground. later on I go back and rake it all up and compost it so nothings is lost. I can then spray with weed killer. Establish a new lawn. Rocks may break the tips but it a small price to pay for a solution that works.

Just got one of these for myself to test out. I am personally very impressed at what it can handle.
I found your video because mine did not come with anything to mount it to the stihl weed eater I use. I also had issue with the hole alignment and found the same problem.
I’m sure this isn’t the safest way to mount the blade, but i put mine between the original weed eater head and the shaft. I had no way of actually mounting just the blade itself. So the blade is more like an accessory to the traditional string head, and it seems to be working out pretty well so far! Makes it a little more versatile, and keeps me from hitting the blades into the ground as easily.
Great video! Very well done and helpful!
