Hey, just a heads-up, the full name of the band is actually "Wagakki Band", not just "Wagakki". Translated, it basically means "Traditional Japanese instrument band". :)

      Skull Collector
That TH-cam MV has (now at least) actual English AND Japanese Subtitles to choose from in the Video Options.
      So now You can "understand"...
But it's actual a story happening in Japan in a weird parallel World with an also weird mix of old and recent stuff that doesn't make sense.
The whole Lyrics and Story don't really make "too much sense"...
      Bye then.

Yes, heard Tengaku, Senbonzakura, Yuki yo Maichire Sochira ni Mukete, the standards,, then ran across Synchronicity.
I was already hooked but that one drove home just how talented this bad is, in every aspect.

Also, I feel this has to be appointed out:
This song is a cover of what is the most important song in the history of Japan as it was made in direct response to the two nukes.
It's actually a very sad and negative song that comments on the effect it had on Japan.
" Thousands of cherry trees dissolve into the night. Not even your voice will reach.
This is a banquet inside a steel jail cell. Look down on us from your guillotine."
Those two lines alone speak volumes as the Cherry Blossoms are a big symbol of Japan representing life and birth. Lifes are lost, Japan felt like they were trapped and about to be executed.
There is even a part literally mentioning the nukes, referring to them as evil spirits that basically haunt the nation.
But at the same time, the song also ends referring to how even inside this "steel jail cell" they go "you will sing and I will dance after you jump off from your guillotine" to display a hope of peace.
This adds into Wagakki Band who wanted a style of eastern and western music as display of unity and why the end of the video looks more festive as it is the resolution in celebrating to sing and dance together. Also the artistic choice of the Sakura Blossoms having returned being the return of life and the spirit of Japan once we learn peace and love for another.
In a way, the very original hopes for peace after the broken state of Japan, countless covers carried that hope and Wagakki went out in trying to say we are at the point where can can sing and dance together as friends and allies despite our differences.

I would also add, this song was originally written for Hatsune Miku, a vocoloid, and this song is INCREDIBLY popular among the US audiences. I should know, I was there and just about everyone knew the song.

I always loved how Beni (the black haired girl that is not the singer) is full out rocking it out on the Samisen (The instrument she is playing) like it's a E-Guitar. Probably the only one in the world with this style cause it's such an unorthodox instrument for this kind of genre.

    • @kupopoporo4447
      @kupopoporo4447 ปีที่แล้ว

very very late but no, the style shes playing isnt completely unique and the instrument is actually built for that genre and so not unorthodox at all. The playing style and style of Shamisen she is playing on is called "Tsugaru Shamisen". The corpus is bigger, neck thicker and the bachi (the kind of plectrum) way smaller, allowing for a fast playing style and very clean and loud sounds. The Tsugaru style is a modern style that bloomed in the 1970s and got used mainly in pop, rock, metal and video game/movie music. Beni Ninagawa is definitely one of the best Tsugaru players out there today, having won several international prizes and competitions. SInce this style is fairly young, I am sure that she will leave a great impact on it.
Source: Im a Tsugaru Shamisen player myself
