Buddy was such a legend! Started the show by mugging for the camera and just like that got the audience laughing. He was funny and smart and I loved him back when I was a kid in the Herbie movies. Watching at the drive thru with my brothers and sister eating a giant Tupperware bucket of popcorn in the old Chevy station wagon. Good times.
I thought it was interesting that Florence Henderson (Carol Brady) first played with a contestant named Peter. Then, Peter Brady (Christopher Knight) is in The Newlywed Game ad at the end of the episode!
The female contestant had almost the same name as the marvelous voice actress, June Foray who was the voice of Rocket J. Squirrel and Natasha Fatale (Rocky & Bullwinkle and Friends), Nell Fenwick (Dudley Do-Right's girlfriend), Granny (Tweety & Sylvester) and many others. Miss Foray would have been 44 years old when this episode aired, a few years older than the young woman who won both games.
When I saw Buddy Hackett, I thought of Adam Sandler's line in "The Wedding Singer" when he tells Drew Barrymore that he's probably going to look like Buddy Hackett when he's older! 🤣
I’ve watched several of these and noticed that the rules of the game are enforced quite irregularly. Sometimes hand gestures and miming are overlooked, for example. O even saw an episode where a 2 word clue was allowed. No consistency!
Fabulous episode, I love Florence H, she plays really well, and is very neat and crisp, Buddy is always funny, what gets me is he can get away with murder as he has this kinda nonchalant gnome face.
And then again many of the celebrities initiate hugs/kisses based on the many old shows I've watched. A true "star" would never embarrass the show like Buddy did.
What is it with the contestants using their hands when giving clues? Even after Allen cautions them time and again. How did Florence get “Bounce” from “Resilient”?
@@blakemrolfsensanchez547because these people seriously need to control their touching. I’m not the one you addressed your question to but I know it made me uncomfortable the way they were acting. I’m talking about the contestants.
Oh and there was one clue that got a buzzer and Allen Ludden said he'd explain it later, but he didn't. Did anyone catch that? I thought maybe it was a part of a song title or something. Don't know if that's allowed.
$800 in 1962 has the same "purchasing power" or "buying power" as $8,097.77 in 2023. Buddy Hackett suffered from Bell's palsy as a child, the lingering effects of which contributed to his distinctive slurred speech and facial expression.
In all the episodes I have seen, this is the only one I've seen so far where they played with so many interruptions that they didn't even get to start a third game. Maybe that saved Goodson-Todman some money, but I'm not sure that was what they were looking for. Some viewers might have enjoyed all the byplay, but I think many others would have found it annoying. Other celebrities could be funny and entertaining without breaking up the flow of the game.
Funny how us watching him 2019 would think that if Florence could have traveled into the future and practiced augury… After saying "fast" etc. she could have said "Taylorrrrr...." ( for "Swift" :-)
Joe, I agree. Celebrity players who clamor for center stage as he does just come across as self-centered, even if they manage to be funny at times. Eva Gabor struck me the same way when she played.

I don't know it "Katie" would technically still be his sister-in-law 9 months after his wife died. 2:48
First, Buddy was a fucking literature savant, and a bit of an asshole. Second, I love how everyone was allowed to kiss everyone else and have fun with it. Now a days there will be lawsuits branching out everywhere and some will be facing hard sentences for going to a gameshow.
Dude you don't know if "everybody was having fun" with being kissed; in fact, when the male contestant repeatedly kept kissing and embracing Florence Henderson, you could see on her face after the third time 4:34, she was annoyed with it and then looked back to host Allen Ludden out of concern. Clearly Henderson didn't want to spent the next 25 mins of the show having this nobody contestant all over her on national TV after every password. Ludden then stepped in and shut it down with the coy warning, "you're going to overdo it, Peter." The behavior was stifled so smoothly by Ludden that it went right over your head that there was even a brewing problem. Your simpleton conclusion of the whole situation was, "I love how everyone was allowed to kiss everyone else and have fun with it." lol. For something right in front of your face, you have low perception skills. Simps like yourself are today's biggest hypocrites - if your wife or daughter was on a game show today and some nobody male contestant kept taking it upon himself to repeatedly kiss and embrace your wife or daughter, you'd be the FIRST in line to see that he got sued for unwanted physical/sexual contact.
Not everyone kissed. Buddy was the only one. The lady had no choice but to comply or she would have looked bad. The young man tried to kiss but you could see she was uncomfortable, even on the cheek
@@kentetalman9008 Disapproving by giving you a little 'ol known fact about a place and the people I lived with for years? Interesting how 'you' find the hatred of everything...
I got worried that the kissing was going to escalate. I'm already uncomfortable with the wrist and shoulder grabbing. Can't they just do a little clapping to themselves? But it was a good show. All the players were skilled, but there were some hard words! Buddy Hackett, in spite of his pretense of dimness, has been a good player on both this show and What's My Line. Clever, as Allen Ludden points out.

With respect, Buddy was a Hack - ett. Irritating AF
Florence looked a bit grumpy-rather uncharming😮
Ha ha - I have same memories of the Tupperware and all popcorn at the "drive- in" movies rather than drive-thru 😊
A right pain in the arse he was. A waste of good TV time. He needed a proper slap
WOW! 3 great cultural reference in a row! Sound of Music, Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. And Music Man!
The Music Man is my favorite musical! Since it came out in 1962, I was happy to see it mentioned here!
Buddy is smart. Also is very good on What's My Line.
I thought it was interesting that Florence Henderson (Carol Brady) first played with a contestant named Peter. Then, Peter Brady (Christopher Knight) is in The Newlywed Game ad at the end of the episode!
Buddy was in the no.1 movie of 1969, Herbie: The Love Bug.
Buddy was a funny guy…but he sure had a mean streak!
The female contestant had almost the same name as the marvelous voice actress, June Foray who was the voice of Rocket J. That's who I thought of as well, as I'm a massive animation fan!

lovin the daily uploads
On the mouth! Times have changed.
Everytime I see Buddy Hackett I want an ice cream bar. 😂
*Every time
It’s funny , on some episodes Allen doesn’t say anything about the players hand gestures !! 🐻
These are early episodes.so i guess they got me lenient !
Learning curve.
@marycook1644 Gave it up as hopeless perhaps. Or gestures so subtle that they didn't affect the outcome? 🤷♀️
Many time, he can't see the gestures from his location.
I’ve watched several of these and noticed that the rules of the game are enforced quite irregularly. Sometimes hand gestures and miming are overlooked, for example. O even saw an episode where a 2 word clue was allowed. No consistency!
It's so while to think how The Brady Bunch at this point was just (maybe) a twinkle in Sherwood Schwartz' eye!
She sure didn't know what was ahead of her! 🙂
Buddy was involved in so many big things at this time. This was his golden period. Florence's was yet to come.
I wonder if anyone of them are still alive except the celebrities we all know they are gone
Not The Love Bug but Mad Mad Mad Mad World was his greatest flick!
Fabulous episode, I love Florence H, she plays really well, and is very neat and crisp, Buddy is always funny, what gets me is he can get away with murder as he has this kinda nonchalant gnome face.
Glad Buddy set up boundaries. Many stars appear very uncomfortable when these strangers touch them, hug them, &/or kiss them. I know I would.
And then again many of the celebrities initiate hugs/kisses based on the many old shows I've watched. A true "star" would never embarrass the show like Buddy did.
Yeah I’ve watched some aggressive grabbing go on on this show. David B, what’s your problem? THIS show can’t be embarrassed.
That was not boundaries. That was homophobia.
Spare us your Libtard logic, Iron!
Keke Palmer embarrasses this show! So did Jimmy Fallon!
It's always a fun game when Buddy's on the scene, I think if he woulda added an S to future it would have made a big difference 😮
She has a LONG neck!
She used her hand to help convey "shingle", just moments after being warned.
That first lady contestant had an unusually long neck she obviously tried to conceal with the multiple necklaces.
What is it with the contestants using their hands when giving clues? Even after Allen cautions them time and again.
How did Florence get “Bounce” from “Resilient”?
Well, a resilient person bounces back.
Love seeing the celebrities in their early days, but this particular episode was uncomfortable on so many levels.
How so?

Does anyone here know whether the music in these old Password shows was performed live or was just tape playback?
21:43 well… "Taylor" wouldn't be a good clue here for them, because Swift hadn't been born yet 🙂
For "Tool" I might have offered "Implement…"

Lady has a 2year old boy ..would be 60 now !
$800 is the most I've seen anyone win
People won over $1,000 in several previous episodes.
I can't stand Buddy Hackett! I'd enjoy this much more if there was almost anyone else! I'm just here for Florence Henderson!
Biddy was hilarious and a really good actor. There are no real actors nowadays. Its all about CGI.
Buddy Hackett is like liver and onions: you either love him or you hate him.
But Buddy is everybody's buddy.
@@audreymai2773 He is excellent in GOD'S LITTLE ACRE.
buddy is my fave guest, hilarious man
A complete asshole on this. The sour look and rude attitude! A waste of good time

Buddy knew how redirect clues. They were replying with nouns, on and on…. Buddy gave “put” for invest.
I wish I could tell what color dresses the ladies were wearing 😁
It's Mrs. Brady And Scuttle
I was thinking a cheeky but potentially workable definition for "NOD" could be "Chewed...." (Knawed:-)
pre brady bunch flo and a pre mad world buddy.
Would “retirement” have worked for “invest”?
As a second clue for, "Fair" I might have said, "Carnival"
Maybe it's me, or the Pearl necklace but the lady contestant has a really long neck.

Watch the hands!
Oh, hey June: do you happen to have a life too? TELL me about it. Meanwhile, Buddy H giving up after only one try… what a partner he ain’t.
Buddy Hackette seems like a real jerk!
She appearance the Brady bunch
She not only appeared in "Brady Bunch" she 🌟 ed in it . Has been on Broadway scores of times and I think on Dancing with the Stars!
Her death was so shocking.
Buddy Hackett runs a close second to Jerry Lewis for the most annoying human ever
Absolutely!!

Buddy Hackett was a terrible contestant. He showed aggressiveness on a family game show. A poor personality to have on

Florence Henderson nearly saying 'OOH SHIT' and Buddy Hackett being homophobic. You can't beat entertainment like this.
