i will say there was a ton of HBO favortism in this fight Junior Jones was an Olympian but he backpeddled and held alot in this fight and the commentators keep saying Canizalez was hurt here and there and NOT ONCE was he even buzzed Canizalez was the ring general and landed the cleaner more effective punches lederman and merchant have known to be very biased at times
ok Junior Jones fought smart and did hold alot should have been penalized for it though anyway you guys realize this was a split decision with 1 judge scoring almost a shutout for Canizalez also to note out of all 5 losses Canizalez only 1 was a UD in which Canizalez avenged with a KO all others including this fight were split decisions if that tells you anything
Canizales produced great boxing (and what a wonderful footwork!) but Jones can't keep up and pause the fight by holding his opponent. He produced bad boxing.Too many fighters lost fights because their attacks were blocked by the unfair opponent's habit to hold them. Without that, Canizales would have won (Canizales got a good shot on Jones at 59:17 but jones found a way to hold his opponent to regain energy and steal time).
@@acetofresh1 You say that because you don't have a real fighting heart. A real fighter doesn't want to win. He wants to win fairly. Clinching is cowardice. I'm really sorry.
@@fornlike Nonsense. You have probably never fought in your life. Idiotic nonsense , this isn’t street fighter this is a boxing match, clinching is a skill and fighters who don’t know how to do it genuinely seem clueless. Juniors wasn’t that bad if he beat some of your favorite fighters like Mexican Barrera.
Typical American trained fighter. Hold, hold, hold. If Canizales had any change on him Jones woulda taken it. Jones was I thought overrated and I was right.
@@gerrinehill6992 yes, Canizales is pretty much known only by boxing aficionados. Technically sound. 17 title defenses in that era says something on the kind of fighter he was. Means he fought all that wanted a shot at the title. No cherry picking to make himself look great.
@@jeffmejia3556 Yeah but many of that defenses were against many unknown figthers, and never unified against another champions in his divisions. In Bantam he has more defenses than Manuel Ortiz, but the opposition of Ortiz were better than Canizalez . Ortiz defenses were in one belt, even more difficult. Canizales’s active guard (Hand positioning) and head movement when applying pressure exceptional.

Great fight
The judge giving this 119-111 Canizales should have been immediately fired.

Clinching is a skill and ironically many of these so called Mexican style fighters are clueless fighting in one.
