Lower case kanban is the barebone “board with cards” as used initially at Toyota Production System to manage flow of delivery. This is what Scrum.org approached and used for their literatures and training materials. That is why we believe lowercase kanban does not conflict with Scrum. Uppercase Kanban is a methodology that use kanban as one of the tools. Other organisations have created Kanban methodology. So rather than creating another name they just use Kanban as the brand of the methodology.
