- I have been playing so much Exanima lately and since it's patch 0.9 it's becoming a really amazing game. I noticed a lot of what I learned about the dungeons was spread among a lot of different videos so I wanted to put it all together for newer players so they could get into the game faster and easier. #Exanima #Gaming
So general tip, reading scrolls and books, exploration, and combat grant XP.
Also there is a 15 skill cap, so plan out a builds.
Thanks that's a great tip. I didn't know about the scrolls I thought they were just lore. Pinning this
Heavy Mail in the first chest you open??? So lucky, spent ten hours doing a run before looking for tips and guides, this video was very insightful.
Ha yeah that was really wild. Glad this helped!
This title stumbled upon my youtube suggestions, and I must say your video makes the game look much better than the steam promotional video. This actually seems fun, I will look into it more soon. Thank you for the tips.
its great fun! 5.5 hours in till in the first dungeon and practive arena exploring around. Im loving it
I started playing Exanima again for the first time since 2016 and I have a really hard time not only orientating myself in the dungeon, I keep getting turned around, but I guess most importantly telling what items are interactable or collectable. I don't think I would have had a chance of finding a compass before watching this video. So thank you for that, I very much need the help :)
Tbh I didn't spend that much time in the game back in 2016 - god, is that really 8 years ago?!?! - but I don't remember having such a hard time back then.
Thanks for this, I had no idea there were levers on the wall I needed to pull. Was stuck running around an empty dungeon for 20 minutes. Great video.
me too, and didnt even found a save point, so I lost all my progress 😢
It'd taken me more than 1,5 hour hahah I'm glad i saw the video
Theres way to ask this without being rude but how did you not think to pull the levers?
@@staffofthecrystalserpant7751 No offense taken. I didn’t pull them because I didn’t notice them at all. There’s probably a way to say this without being rude but how did you not understand my comment? I said “I had no idea there were levers on the wall”
@@spencerjones76 It's just about understanding, they could have thought you meant that you saw the levers, just didn't know you could pull them.
i played like an hour without realising you could reset the camera thank you!!
It's a game changer
My big recomendation is to click arena in the main menu and hit practice and just do a buncha fights so you can actually learn without any stress
Man I already love this video! Thanks for the simple, straight forward, and informative vid!
Awesome you're so welcome. I literally just made the video that would have helped me save time when I was getting into Exanima. Enjoy!!
I solve the timer gate diferent, i just put wood in angle, lean the board agains the gate to be able to drop between the rooms when the gate open, that will disable the mechanism and door will be free to open more
I love that the book in the thumbnail literally says EXANIMA FOR DUMMIES! on the back, nice touch
Honestly man thank you, just your tips on controls and how to maneuver the camera helped my combat 100 fold. I'm still king of suck balls mountain, but I'm getting far better!
I wasn't aware suck balls mountain had a king! For some reason I was under the impression suck balls mountain had gained democracy. All hail the King!!! 👑
@@GreyBeardGamingYT😂
i played literally 80 minutes starting with only the torch, and i stared like 3 minutes at the door in the start, i did not know there were chests to loot until i saw your video, now it makes more sense that killing the first guy took 7 or 8 hits with the torch, there's a starting weapon!, anyways, thank you for the video, you made the game playable for me xd
@@nixNoHay awesome comment thanks I love to hear that!! It's a tricky one to get started but when you know some basics it gets so good.
The runes in the thumbnail read "Exanima for dummies" if anyone is curious.
Don't worry that doesn't mean I think you're a dummy!
@GreyBeardGamingYT oh I thought it was clever =)
I won't take credit I found it on the internet but you're clever for figuring it out!
In the room with the level,i grabbed the painting on the floor and propped it against the lever to keep it from lifting and it worked 😮
You can also block the gate agains closing by puting object to fall in when gate open, it will try to close the gate but after initial force to close it will free to move the gate, you can open it if the space between isnt enought open
Yep there is 3 ways to solve it and all are physical which makes this game really unique
Excellent vid and great tips, I cleared the game many times with over 100 hrs played, and wouldn't add anything
The more I watch these exanima vids, the more I wonder if my game is just broken. My character doesn't crouch, I can't do a downward swing, and any other swing tends to stop like 25% of the way as if hitting the air.
just so you know what you say too derrin does matter in the long run derrin will be more eager to fight random zombies if you say you intend to kill them if they get in your way also you can make him more confident later on and thatll determine how he reacts when facing a certain boss monster
Wow that's surprising!! I didn't know that at all.
@@GreyBeardGamingYT It suprised ive only played with him 2 times since i enjoy proctor but the 2 times I got an insanely different derrin experience. first one I told him Id avoid combat and he never initiated combat second time I told him id kill any in my way and he was starting engagements all the time. I cant say for certain if it was dialogue options but I found a few forum posts talking about it and it matches up with my experience. so I went through every dialogue option to get the best derrin outcome I could and eventually I got to that certain boss(stopped my pacifist run before I got there so I cant compare) derrin fucking charged the thing while I was trying to trap it which was not what i expected from reading the forum posts so I said fuck it and fought it with him thats when that run ended but derrin was charging the thing with his fists out as my screen faded to black, I like to think he won.
@@wraithdino1217 Derrin is truely a brave soul... When he's not running from Sir...
Awesome guide brother ! I loved your commentary it was very helpful and well explained
Seriously awesome guide. Will remember that tip regarding centering the camera.
you can throw the torch on the ground too and two hand fight(i'm bad lol so i prefer 2handed for now)
You gotta start crouching when overhand swinging my guy!
Yeah? I usually only do that to finish them off when they're on the ground. I'll try using it more!
Bro I bought this game Nov 2022 and only got an hour in before giving up since I didn't know all these tips. Now, a year later, gonna make a better try at it
Wooooo good luck, if you need more help I am doing a full-game walkthrough on my channel now.
First "puzzle" instead of making a ramp, you can clear the shelf of pots and bits, pull the lever and grab the painting to block the lever from going up. The door remains open and you can take your time instead of running.
That's awesome I will give this a try next time! I love when you a game has multiple solutions to the same problem. Wish Exanima had more puzzles like this honestly.
I just leaned a board up against the gate, so that when it opened it fell in and blocked the gate from closing all the way.
Lol turns out that is likely the intended way to solve this haha a bunch of people have said it now :P@@dogwelder9699
@GreyBeardGamingYT I tried the ramp first, couldn't get it to work though lol.
This is what I did too! Used the painting to hold the lever down.
In regards to the armor coverage, I feel like it depends on your weapon type, but with two handed weapons you tend to take a lot of hits in the forearms.
I always prioritize arm protection
Very informative video, thanks! I just bought this game today, cant wait to play it!
Awesome!! I am stoked for you. It's a tough one but I am sure you'll get it.
@@GreyBeardGamingYT no problem. I like tough roguelike games. I recommend you Synthetik 2 if you never play it so far. One of the best rougelike twinstick shooter. And the 1st one too. :)
Thank you for this guide.
I put something on the lever and the gate stayed open. You have to bring the lever down and as long as what you put on it stays the lever will not rise
This was super helpful, thanks!
Wow can't believe I've not heard of this before.
It's a hidden gem!
Bought it recently. Addicted 🎉
Is it a good game ? I seen other videos , reminds me of *Diablo 4 mix with the 3 Stooges* 😂 .. but I guess it's 1 of those games a person would just have too try for their self ,
Great video!
Since not all enemies directly attack you in non-combat mode.... You can really hinder NPC enemies by placing items over them chairs, ladders, debris, anything that sticks to them makes combatting them easier.
Protip:
You can give you torch to Darin and use a 2h instead!
Decent idea
At 12:30 I fill the level with items like chair vase and box and when I push it down I put something on it. Now it's always open
The gameplay is fascinating, and I think I’ll pick this up if it’s ever finished…
But is there any kind of story? People to talk to?
or is it just a dungeon crawl?
There’s nothing wrong with those, I just prefer story and choice in my rpgs. If I don’t have a good motivation my adhd kicks in faster and I move to other games
Right now it's just a dungeon crawl. There is some story but it's just in the environment and the books and scrolls mostly just hints at a greater story that is yet to come. No NPCs other than Derrin.
Great video and thanks for that. Are the brushes useful for anything or are they just junk?
Yeah I think so. Main things to look for are the health pots and blue orbs. Later on in the game there are also crystals and an elixir.
@@GreyBeardGamingYTbrushes can be used to clean dirt off of armor, clothes, and weapons
@@VikingLord2000 so basically nothing! lol
@@VikingLord2000 that's fascinating detail! thanks!
good points but some are not for objects help in combat maybe not showing to train, but a walkthrough seems to me should have this in it right off and running into rooms seem a bit crazy and this is the very first levels not as important these first three level are training levels but still good points. What i want to see is be on this point in combat sure most want to see the real issue and how to avoid them.
Would you have plans any chance of doing the other levels too? If no then could you, please :)?
I actually did think about it... Thanks for the push I'll try and put something together 🙂
Once a year I come back to this game because it is my dream game as originally described by the creator.
No other game has made me more frustrated. Literally only released one spell type in like 3 years of development? Wtf!?
At this point I am praying that another company just steals his idea for a mouse lead physical combat system in a dense and enjoyable dungeon crawling experience, hopefully tied to a greater world to quest in. Any other studio would have released exanima 2 by now ffs
Where can I find those maps?
Google exanimap
I dunno what is happening but i can swing a weapon when not close to an enemy but as soon as I'm in range it just holds weapon in the air. Cant swing weapon at all
That is super weird.... Did you try restarting the game? Sounds bugged.
So, you don't have to do the maze?
Nope! I skip it.
tried it for about half a hour and couldn't stand the controls.
A lot of ppl recommend starting in the arena first
👍🏼
how do i use chalk?
I don't think there's a use currently as far as I know.
@@GreyBeardGamingYT oh okay lol i was banging my head trying to write on the chalk board/walls
Man, i thought that the Dark souls saga was poorly explained, why are devs like this??
Because they feed off our suffering.
A walkthrough without no follow through videos Okay!
Hey this was a standalone starters guide. There is a full game walkthrough being uploaded on my channel now. So far we have floors 1-5 ready to watch.
