  • Welding project during this time of social distancing: Recycled a broken hand truck & a kid’s bike into a dually / mono wheel bike trailer. Mono wheel for pulling through narrow trails and paths. Dually so it won’t sink into beach sand. Now I can take my own folding chair anywhere, plus haul cargo. Practically, transforms a bike into a ‘pickup truck’. The hand truck was convertible to a dolly & made of 2 parts. This means the trailer overall length can be extended, able to take long cargo like lumber, canoes, surfboards, etc. I hope to replace the bin with a lockable plastic tote. Test at Boundary Bay dike and Centennial Beach, BC.

    i like watching People like yourself that Build there Own Trailer, i recently converted a Golf Bag Caddy into a Bike Trailer, i have put the Load so it is balanced and does not put all its weight on Bicycle, but then again the Cart is Light weight, with 2- 12inch tires, it had 3, 1 i would not need for it to be there, i made it Quick Release + safety strap.

    Very nice. It seems to work well in rough terrain. It's a keeper. Have a great day.

    Thank you, I’m in Houston Texas jealous of your weather in the video. Have been looking for diy bike trailer. This video has inspired me.
    I believe you mentioned motorizing the trailer, I had picked up an e-scooter someone threw out. So that got the wheels turning in my head. I can almost visualize it, it almost builds itself. Thanks again…

      Good score on that free e-scooter and good luck with the build.

    Sure like that duel but me I'm into length,how would u stretch it out....?

      Thanks for commenting. The dual wheels are great for deep sand. Are you planning to trailer a surfboard? I would stretch it out by bolting on two long metal tubes. Maybe even PVC pipe, depending on cargo weight. Just have to ensure the inner diameter is large enough to insert the existing tubes on the trailer. No welding needed, just drill holes and bolt everything together. You can further reinforce with crossmembers (like a ladder).

    Excellent work! What are those ends called that attach the trailer to your rear wheel axle?

    • @randphong
      @randphong  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. They are called heim joints or rod end bearings.

      @@randphong excellent. Do you just put a normal bolt through the end of the coupling? You must love BC by the looks of it! I looked those up, but I think I’ll try the M style air hose coupling idea first.

      @@big_red_machine3547 Yes, First I bolted small plates to the existing holes on the dropouts. These already had threads in them. Then I ran bolts through the eyes of the heim joints into the plates. I also applied some low strength threadlocker.
