This spot on the Snake (Lunch Counter) is pretty safe. No strainers to hang up on (wood OR rock) the water is nice and deep, so the likelihood of having a leash hang up is almost zero. As you've rightly pointed out, though, most places may not be like that.
I'm usually out there in a kayak (Crazy 88). What would you recommend for someone who wants to get out on a surf board, 160 pounds...a 7'-ish semi gun? I have an old 8' Donald Takayama tri-fin....I don't suppose that would work, would it?
Great vid! The wave at Jackson Hole looks just amazing! We've put a link to this vid on Riverbreak . com -- World's #1 magazine on river surfing! Check by :)
I have done this a few times in New Zealand.. with the leash you have to watch out for the board tombstoning it can hold you under nicely!
Just another reason to love Jackson Hole.
Awesome vid by the way, want to try this myself here in Whistler!

What if they get washed over the wave and down the river?

How do you stop from getting washed down the river? How do you save the board?

They use an ankle leash and swim for the side.
