Great video, Prof! This is a really good alternative for many new students who can't afford to shell out the prices for new PCs that meet lab specs these days. The difference in speed is so minor that unless you're doing some higher-level processes/data transfers most would get on just fine having an external drive to run off of. Thanks.

I was running out of space on my work Laptop 512gb (Fast Dell with type-c) so fitted a new internal 1TB NVME SSD in the spare slot, did some speed tests to compare it to the other internal SSD Dell originally installed (so 1.5tb in total now) and they came out neck and neck. And then I thought I wonder how fast the External NVME I have in my bag for emergencies would do, so I sat down and did some Compiling/Running of VS 2022 code and Storing/Running SQL Databases from the External NVME SSD. I've come to the same conclusion as yourself, the external drives are now so good speed wise that I can shift a lot of the Skut/Storage work to them. This will also have the Bonus of keeping my Internal SSD's living longer as they won't get written too as often, plus on my Mac Book I can now dual boot OSX/Windows 11 as I have a lot more space since I moved the files over. The only thing that you didn't cover is Bit Locking the external drives for Security reasons.

I am running the external hard drive with encryption using APFS. I notice that encryption slows the hard drive performance on read speeds by at least 10%.

Hi I have a question I hope you can please answer. I have a MacBook Pro 2015 and I was wondering would it be faster to run gaming or photo editing apps from an external Nvme m.2 ssd rather than the internal one? Please I’d like to know your answer if it would make the apps faster that way.

Professor!! I have a question for you.
Theoretically, could I use Proxmox booted to a separate hard drive within the same unit that runs Windows 11 on a different boot drive? So I’d be run a Proxmox server on the same machine running windows 11 with display?
Does that make sense? Is it doable?

Do you know if there will be any difference if you run the internal hardrive from a ssd, and the external harddrive from ssd via usb 3.0?

I was wondering if You consider uploading the rest of the spring boot course any time soon? I loved all those videos and appreciate what you did for us. ❤

Hi, what format are you using in your portable SSD, exFat or NTFS?

    Could you run,how’s virtual box

I have not found virtual box to be nearly as good as parallels. For a PC and linux it might work fine, but parallels is the best solution to run on mac os.

here's a stupid idea: run a virtual machine over a network drive
