I was on that wagon and I experienced a lot of breakage and dryness. Si now I am doing what I have heard from Cyn , star implementing healthy and secure ways to do my hair. I want to thank you for speaking the truth and helping me.
Follow the science.....and also record how your hair responds to the science. I remember reading about co-washing/conditioner and my scalp did not like it. So I switched to the alternative which was botanical shampoo. The reasoning behind co-washing was that there were surfactants in conditioners. However, not all conditioners have surfactants!! That's why I started learning about ingredients. It helps me a lot. My scalp once I got to age 29 reacted badly to natural raw oils ( which is why Cyn tells you not to put it on your scalp/hair). However, I used the Olaplex oil and my scalp did not react badly because the Olaplex oil is mostly silicone-based and not raw oil-based...like the Mielle or Wild growth oil. We need to start reading the ingredients and following the science instead of slapping on product willy nilly. 😅🤣😂 There has to be a method...in the madness. Lol! Even so I get regular checkups and blood tests and I've been diagnosed with various conditions which I know hamper hair growth so no-one can sell me a hair growth oil. First I have bad reactions to raw oils whether they are carrier oils( looking at y coconut oil and shea oil) or essential oils and second I know that my slow and weak growth not external but internal conditions. That said I'm still very lucky to be perimenopausal with most of my hair. I see little girls and young women in their twenties with horrible hair loss and it doesn't need to be this way!!
Everything you're teaching is making us actually love our Natural curls. I've realized roller sets or perm rods are my favorite style. I workout and I sweat, a lot! 2 days cardio 2 days weights. Silk press can not hold up through it lol so I grabbed all my foam rollers I can find and just starting trying different sets and I love it. I section off my hair and braid the first maybe inch from my roots put my hair up, headband and get my workout in. I'll blow dry my roots with the hand held dryer and shake out my hair, fluff my curls and I'm out the door. It's easy!! At night i section my hair into 4 parts comb and brush each section really well, small about of serum on my ends and put about 10-12 soft rollers on. Get up, unroll fluff my curls and they are still poppin!! Tomorrow is 7 days for me and I don't even wanna wash my hair because the curls are still so pretty but that scalp don't play lol. Definitely doing another roller set tho this time with a different size roller. Cyn you're the GOAT. I remember sitting with my grandma at night watching her out rollers in her hair before bed. Yes, it all comes full circle. Stay blessed sis.
I just got the Biosilk travel kit, got the whole line in small sizes for $22 on Amazon so looking forward to using it. Now that I'm changing my routines I want to up my product game too. It's all coming together I feel.
Cyn, these flashback vids are giving me nostalgia. It's like a time capsule has been opened and I'm here for it! 👏🏾 Please talk about that along with all the other herbs and mess people mixing up thinking it's doing something.
Thank you for your video. I'm trying to change old habits ( stop greasing the scalp). I have been using Olaplex and that was a game changer. My hair has never looked and felt so good. My hair has movement, light and fluffy. I was following the natural hair community and a lot of their advice did not work for me. I love my hair and look forward to wash day. I do trim my ends at home every 2 months. Thank you for your professional advice.
When you mentioned about spending time with our hair, that hit me, especially today. I actually forgot to do my hair on my wash day. My hair cussed me out. It really is having a relationship with these strands, really another aspect of the self. Thank you for standing with us and for us. I am excited to see the flaxseed video. 🎉❤
I did the "heat free" year and it gave me dermatitis on my scalp. My mother blew out my hair with "bone straight" and used reconstructor monthly when I was a kid and my hair is just now starting to get back to that thick, healthy place. I'm a blow out and curling iron girl again and my hair and scalp are thankful. I also value length AND wearing my hair out, so the tangling and breakage that I avoid by blow drying has been impossible not to notice.
If only we had known not to join the bandwagon. I remember those days and I remember it was the worse year(s) of my life. I hated how I looked and my hair was dry as a desert from all the cowashing and piling on products. Since I discovered Cyn a few months ago and another TH-camr more than a year ago, they’ve gotten me on the right track and I’m excited to see what’s in ahead. Thank you Cyn. I will comment all the time on your channel, because you deserve the recognition. 😂
Scientific truth. I wish you were around years ago. It would have saved me so much time, money, effort and hair health. Please do that disulphide bond video. It's crazy to me that theres no gatekeeping on TH-cam. It's just...I don't know... Now this what you doing....it's truth. How many nights I slept with conditioner in my hair and bought products recommended by that relaxed girl that had your video removed due to copy right. My hair grew when left curly with home made stuff and products but it left my hair so damaged I had to cut it cos of over manipulation and that apple cider vinegar....oh no....never again. Thankfully my scalp don't like products otherwise I would have greased and oiled it and I would have been bald. That's how bad my hair was with home remedies and layering products and coconut oil and so many other stuff. It's your practices and olaplex that helped. If only you were around then 😢. My hair is in THE best healthiest condition it's EVER been in since following your tips and THAT says alot cos my hair was horrible before implemting your tips. Horrid. I should be your poster child. I still have a mental battle with layering to much product on my hair (leave ins/heat protectants)...it's really hard but using the right amounts listed on bottle got me the best results. Thank you so much. If I were American I swear I'd stalk you and make you my best friend to get just one paid hair do from you. Lots of love and appreciation to you ❤❤❤❤❤.
Thank you so very much for hearing me and thinking first yourself. I have a question, what makes letting go of bad habits so hard. You know that don’t work so what’s has you holding on? Is it guilt, guilt, brainwash etc? I would really like to hear your thoughts?
Hey Cyn, you probably don't remember me, but I first found you and subscribed a few weeks ago. I just signed up for the 7-day challenge. I'm so excited to get started. I'm following it to a t. Sending much love and positivity from another Midwestern girly!
You might already have a video about this. I’ve been looking and you answered some of my other questions in this video. But if someone does want to have a twist/braid that out or wear their hair in its curly state. Would you recommend sitting under the dryer and/or using a diffuser to dry the curly hair? That’s if you don’t want to do a flexi rod set. Side bar-I don’t think you don’t like natural hair I just think you let people know that you don’t have to ONLY wear curly/natural styles. And utilizing heat (properly) is not going to make you bald.
@ makes sense. And literally after I posted my question. I went through the comments and found that you posted video about different styles. Thank you 💕.
Hi need advice my son has very dry flakey scalp even after washing the hair . Need your advice.. I'm in England... love listening to you and learning.. thanks so much.. ❤
❤ you've come to the right place sis!! My sons scalp was the same, maybe even worse because he used to scratch tf out of it!! Cyn defo gonna get you right!! ❤
First the GP/family doctor, second the barber, stylist and trichologists recommendations. Third, shampoo every week with whatever the professional prescribed and apply daily with whatever they have prescribed. I live in London ..we don't have cosmetologists like in the US but my trichologists here have a two-year clinical course and certification that they have to compete. Trichology in the USA apparently is a 6 week online course...smh.... This is what I do as prescribed by the British trichologists, daily steam and water-based scalp mist and weekly shampoo. No conditioner or grease or oil or butter on the scalp. I cover my head in winter because the central heating and winter air dry out my scalp even more!! Watch Cyn's videos and try to follow her advice about putting nothing oil or butter or grease based on the scalp.
Hi,thank you for always sharing your knowlegde about how to protect and grow beautiful hair. Please doing what you do. What are you spraying on her hair before flat ironing? Peace & Blessings
@IamCynDoll Thanks so much for responding . What would you recommend as a good heat protectant to spray on before flat ironing. I spray TRESemne Keratin smooth before I blow dry but should I use something else before I flatiron my hair?
Hi Cyn, I'm new to you, i wear braids a lot, recently i stopped, figured that it can't be good, lots of hair shedding, i need your help because i don't know where to start, please help me, btw, just joined you, I'mma trust the process😊
Okay, so what about our natural curls and coils as a style? How do we style our natural hair texture while still utilizing our sebum? Everything seems to be centered around stretched or straightened hairstyles that mimic other ethnicities' hair types. Yes, all the science you mention is 1000% accurate, including how simplicity is best. I know that the main reason most Black hair doesn't get the proper sebum distribution is due to the curl pattern preventing its travel from roots to ends. However, there are definitely alternatives to consistently straightening it in order to retain length. Our hair has a long history of people disliking its natural texture, due to colonialism. That was supposed to be the whole point of the "natural hair movement", regaining love and pride for our natural features. Now I have no problem with using heat properly as you describe, but are you saying we need to straighten our hair indefinitely and only where stretched styles? Your teachings seem to focus on altering our hair texture to match others, rather than working within the context of our own natural texture. Am I wrong in some way? I'm Genuinely asking.
Dear Ma'am..I don;t know if you are young or old, but The reason I went natural twice in my life was because my hair and scalp was being damaged too much by black hair dressers and I disliked sitting in the salon for hours with results that I was not happy with. I never went natural as a way to heal the trauma of colonisation and slavery. Our hair holistically cannot heal that trauma by itself. Cyn has given you other methods and I myself and willing to compromise my hair health for my physical and mental health. I've transcended to a place where I do not need affirmation by long hair only healthy hair and health scalp. I'm in my 40s so I'm not in the mindset of someone in their teens or 20s. I'm also child-free and single so I do not have parental or relationship responsibility...If I shaved my head tomorrow my family would not recoil in horror. It's a journey. Enjoy it, look how far you have come and take rest breaks and stops along the way.
Hey everyone! Im curious if anyone would know how i would retain loose curls in my natural hair. I don't use relaxers and have never had a silk press. I wash/deep condition, use heat protectant/blow dry, then flat iron on low heat and put perm rods in. The curls initially come out so nice but by the time i get to work its frizzy again, so all that work for a hairstyle that lasts 10 minutes. I still like it but id just like it to turn out the way i intended and stay that way. Thanks for the video cyn doll.
I think the best advice for home silk press is that you can't use the "curly girl" method or products leading up to a press out. Less product is more and you can't use grease or butters when you're doing a press out. It just won't last. Use a light, anti frizz serum on your hair after you blow it out and before you press and it really really works. Also, use the "chase method" which is running a comb slowly down the section while you "chase it" with the flat iron. I have very thick hair that reverts right back when wet, but I can a really silky result that lasts when I just this method.
Following kimmaytube hurt my hair w/ her diy leave in and cowash. Thank goodness I jumped off that train. I believe she jacked up her hair too and others making her disappear from youtube. Never tf again. Simplicity is best. Shampoo, condition, leave in ....all store bought is all.

Do you have to put conditioner on your hair? I'm asking a question because when I use moisturizing shampoo my hair is already soft....and I have stopped using grease for about a week to see how my hair will feel Thank you
I do still retain length however I am worried that I am seeing a lot of small ends of hair falling because of my hair being color treated (about 40 percent of it, I cut some of it off earlier this year), any suggestions? I wasn't too heavy on protein since my hair porosity isn't high. I just want to make sure I am going to still retain length in the future. My ends also aren't split they just fall because the ends are colored and the roots and mid shift are not.
