    @GavinCox-z5i ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I think the choice of letting Mannie Libbok go for the penalty kicks was in part tactical. The heat was searing and the pace of the game in the first half was just incredibly fast, as was I think expected by Rassie and Jacques.
    Going for the penalty kicks (rather than a line kick, line out and subsequent maul)…some of which weren’t even on really given the difficulty of some (not all) of the kicks…was I think then partly to give the SA forwards a breather…and for them to be able to attain a key objective…that being to continue to press quickly, thereby harassing and impeding the Finn-Russell distribution efforts…which if he’d been able to complete would/might have potentially caused untold grief for SA.
    I’m so glad you pointed out Libbok’s genius…he just doesn’t get enough credit from died-in-the-wool SA supporters who strangely enough seem to prefer a Morné Steyn type flyhalf. I think Mannie is terrific, love the fact that Siya backs him…and can live with his goal kicking stats if you consider the aforementioned reasoning…for this particular game.
    Agreed that he will need to get his conversion ratio up as the games get tighter…but I back Manie, his kicking nous and his instinctive distribution skills…beautiful to see!
    Lastly, kudos to Scotland…thought they played very well in difficult circumstances (expectations and conditions) and have every right to be proud. Was so very impressed with the obvious sportsmanship on show from the Scots after the game…wish the team, their excellent coach and management team all the very best!

      His kicking angles are not right. He fixed it up and was seamless against NZ. He apparently kicks better from a wider angle, hooking the ball.
      So suspect he is being told to try kick differently for now to put less strain on his groin. Might be player management to extend him in the tournament.

    It’s clear that libbok’s kicking is the one big issue for SA, and to have the other kickers as ‘backup’ isn’t really fair or a good strategy. It’s very hard to be asked to pick up the kicking and do a great job of it when you aren’t the designated kicker. I think the way Libbok lines himself up can be worked on and that’ll bring the consistency.

    It's a massive challenge trying to find a way to beat SA - they are so incredibly formidable. I felt for the Scots, and willed them to succeed, had Darcy Graham not had glue on his hands - Scotland would have reached HT in the lead. There is a difference in class between Scotland's first-choice props and the props on the bench - which SA exploited with their second-half set-piece dominance. For Scotland - the game with Ireland on Oct 7th - is the top of the world in importance - its bigger than enormous. They can do it - it should be a monumental game. I

      Those scum penalties could have easily gone the other way, for Schoeman angling in.
      The second one could have been avoided if Faf just cleared the ball as soon as possible.

    Many teams have not used the flyhalf as place kicker. Many South African teams have used the fullback for kicking - Percy Montgomery etc.

    Well done to the Scots. We have not had this level of opposition in the front row for a year. Your real problem is we have a 2nd equally good front row.

    Best quote: I sound English but played like a 🇿🇦. 😂😂😂
    As Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 is my second team I really hope they beat Ireland and make it out the group. Big ask but you just never know. The six nations Scotland were close enough when playing Ireland and France. If we don’t win it then I hope either France or Ireland do.
    Keep up the great casts. 🤙🏼🇿🇦

    I think SA put on so much pressure. The first half though there was really stiff physicality but Scotland just seemed to fade away in the second half. Dont know if that is a result of the physical pressure or scots not holding it together but something just collapsed with the scots in the second half. First half was so much more competitive. SA just dominated the second half.

    • @danielkinghorn6745
      @danielkinghorn6745 ปีที่แล้ว

      Think the issue is we don't have an international level front row to bring off the bench. I love WP but he's 37 now, Bhatti is decent but nothing more and Dave Cherry also isn't the biggest player.

    • @Krazymarmo
      @Krazymarmo ปีที่แล้ว

      @danielkinghorn6745 they also did that bunch of forwards subs which I wad concerned about when it happened but it didn't lead to anything. Like my ex said 'it's not deep enough', I think Scotland need more depth. Or perhaps SA has too much. Every position is under contention pretty much. A handful of people to replace anyone. In a rwc tournament that could be a deciding factor. Which makes me think Scotland may have issues

    • @danielkinghorn6745
      @danielkinghorn6745 ปีที่แล้ว

      @garethmoore9748 no country has the boks forward depth. They are Dutch farmers by ancestry most of them! That means they are some of the tallest people on earth. Scots are, on average, not tall. Combine that with our tiny playing pool, we simply don't have players the size of the boks. Sometimes the game plan works, and you can go around them, it didn't today. Is what it is

    I watched this podcast after watching The Good, the Bad and the Rugby podcast with Mike Tindill and his cohorts - not the Royal one, the one after that where they’re on the boat or ship or whatever - this podcast with Jim and co. is so very much better, much more interesting, much more fun, pure class, like the podcast hosted by Hanyane Shimange with Schalk Burger and Jeanne de Villiers, on the Ruby World Cup TH-cam site - just excellent.
