    Play 'hide and seek'. While on a line, simply swim away from the line and watch as everyone comes to try to find you. It's especially fun when there's a current.
    I'm joking, DO NOT do this.

      Why go away from the line? I just go all the way down on the line to the bottom, and back up again, (repeat if necessary)this way, you dont have to worry about getting lost....

    1) Play rock, paper, scissors.
    2) Look at some of the photos/video you took on the dive
    3) See just how badly the dive boat needs new bottom paint
    4) Make sure you've properly hidden the treasure you found :P

    As a cave diver, usually in fresh water, we frequently have loooong deco. When we drop our deco gas, usually 10-20 ft, we sometimes leave bananas, or chocolate bars, both can be eaten underwater!! (small bites) Also, a magazine can be read underwater, carefully turn the pages, and enjoy! tic/tac/toe can be played on a slate.

    Especially on a wall dive, if possible, my favorite safety stops are to just end the dive swimming around the reef at 15-20' so whenever the time has elapsed and we're done looking we can just ascend. More than one buddy didn't realize this is what we did and wanted to do an additional safety stop :P Unfortunately, more than one buddy has also just skipped the safety stop so I was sitting at 15# playing the "watch their fins wondering why they didn't catch on and come back down" game.

    I’m usually keeping one hand below my face to stop smbs with bottles on them from knocking me out as other divers launch them below me...watch for lines & turn cameras/ lights off etc..I don’t think it’s a lot of time & so I don’t need entertainment or distractions....it’s actually an important safety stop & it’s the depth that it’s hardest to keep level.

    I'm not sure about being horizontal is better for decompression. If your upside down your feet dont decompress quicker than you head.
    Off gassing is a transference of gasses between your bloodstream and the lungs. This happens at chest level and this is where you would measure the surrounding pressure at, not at your head or feet.
    True that the gasses are stored all over your body in the soft tissues but It's through the lungs that the nitrogen got into your body and it's the way you want it to come out too. If it comes out any other way then you have the bends.
    I'm no doctor so if someone actually knows then please say

    • @stevestrong41
      @stevestrong41 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DAN did a good video that in part covered this. I’d suggest taking some time to study up on decompression theory, you’ll better understand why horizontal is better. Besides, at least I think it fascinating and not a bad thing to understand as a diver. Here’s a synopsis though. Yes the exchange occurs between body and atmosphere at the lungs but the exchange of gas from tissues to blood occurs at the tissue to blood interface. The blood then takes it to the lungs. The rate of exchange is caused by the difference in pressure which can be significant if you are upright at that depth. This all then ties in to bubble formation which is why we ascend slowly. You can also get into M values, tissue compartments, and Henry’s law. Also they found that gentle kicking and/or arm motion helps off gassing too. Basically a slight increase in blood flow. Key is gentle though. Descending horizontal is also better. Staying horizontal puts less overall stress on your body. Of course the deeper you are the less the pressure differences over the length of the average body. I hope that helps... I think this stuff is fun!
