You have the right to free speech, but not the right of protection of social or economical consequences. Basically, you can say what you want, however, if anyone finds out, like, say, your boss, he's got the right to execute _his_ right to free speech and fire you. Same as restaurant owners can protest against certain government employees by denying them service, that's also exercising their right to free speech. I believe what this hearing was about, however, was the possibility that his personal opinions may have influenced his work. A loophole, possibly, but still meant the government were not questioning his right to speak freely but rather the possibility that he may have committed a form of fraud while employed by the government.

For one, Mueller himself. When I heard they put him in charge of this (and that he came out of retirement to get the job done) I couldn't place why that made me happy. Then I looked him up and remembered where I'd heard of him before. He did an excellent job before retirement and before this was one of the most respected FBI agents still alive. Even the Republicans who hate him now were happy to hear he accepted the job. Guess they didn't think he'd uncover anything - which is stupid as shit, the man has always been thorough.

Those texts say nothing I haven’t thought and said before. However I’ve been able to say them to anyone who would listen, unlike this man who kept his oath as an FBI and government employee.
Wanda Pease right it's kinda weird. On the one hand if Trump did commit some sort of major crime against the US, I would kinda assume all agents within the FBI would have snarky texts about him. Their job is to protect the US and I'd imagine having a POTUS commit treason or at least anti-US criminal acts will always bother FBI agents. With that said, evidence tainted by negative attitudes could ultimately see any actual criminal acts excused. So it's important to ensure no agent's bias has affected the evidence or actions taken. But, since the whole thing has become so insanely political, I doubt we can even conduct such an investigation. Truth is, we will be lucky if, when Mueller wraps up his investigation this year, if any charges against Trump are brought up, given the political taint. Fox has set this up so that Trump might literally be able to get away with treason, although atm we don't know if he did have any involvement with Russia (and won't until the investigation is done).

i watched close to four hours of this kangaroo court. i would have volunteered for more consumption of this appalling display of ignorance had i not have competing priorities.i am never in the habit of watching congressional hearings but this one i couldn't take my eyes of. i couldn't believe what i was witnessing: a nation in decline. this was really run of the mill hearing in terms of its national politics but all the networks covered it wall to wall-even ignoring the dotard's dinner reception with PMTM. I was very impressed by the agent's fluid arguments and in the manner with which he composed himself in light of the tugish behaviour from the gop hooligans.

Xanthelei It's funny, Mueller is registered Republican. So, I think Republicans hoped Mueller would be as horrible as them and put party over country. Unlucky for them, he has integrity and will put country over party. On top of that he's a well respected investigator.
Yup, and he was one of the Republicans that held my respect as I started into the world of politics (as a citizen, pretty sure I'd be kicked out for being too blunt) in the Bush era as a staunch not-Republican. Thing is, I can handle having differing views of where the country should go, but not of what and where truth and facts are or come from. Mueller has always held truth and fact over politics, and seemed to want above all else for actual justice and truth, and that's why even those who disliked his personal stances respected him. He never let his personal bias override doing his job with integrity.
Even when Bush was President, that seemed like a rare thing. Now he seems to be practically a unicorn... All I can hope is he's taken where the party is personally and is rounding up as much of the corruption as he can in one fell swoop to kick them out of power.

Those texts say nothing I haven’t thought and said before. However I’ve been able to say them to anyone who would listen, unlike this man who kept his oath as an FBI and government employee.
Wanda Pease right it's kinda weird. On the one hand if Trump did commit some sort of major crime against the US, I would kinda assume all agents within the FBI would have snarky texts about him. Their job is to protect the US and I'd imagine having a POTUS commit treason or at least anti-US criminal acts will always bother FBI agents.
With that said, evidence tainted by negative attitudes could ultimately see any actual criminal acts excused. So it's important to ensure no agent's bias has affected the evidence or actions taken.
But, since the whole thing has become so insanely political, I doubt we can even conduct such an investigation. Truth is, we will be lucky if, when Mueller wraps up his investigation this year, if any charges against Trump are brought up, given the political taint. Fox has set this up so that Trump might literally be able to get away with treason, although atm we don't know if he did have any involvement with Russia (and won't until the investigation is done).
I've typed worse, much much much worse and I would do it again. I don't think I would have stood aside though I think I would have tried to sabotage trump if I were in power or had any power so kudos for him being a better person than me.

I'd love for you to be correct but I don't think they will ever escape the taint. They let the tumor in, which is understandable, they let the tumor grow, which is unbecoming, and then they let the tumor take over, which is damning at best. i watched close to four hours of this kangaroo court. i would have volunteered for more consumption of this appalling display of ignorance had i not have competing priorities.i am never in the habit of watching congressional hearings but this one i couldn't take my eyes of. i couldn't believe what i was witnessing: a nation in decline. this was really run of the mill hearing in terms of its national politics but all the networks covered it wall to wall-even ignoring the dotard's dinner reception with PMTM.
I was very impressed by the agent's fluid arguments and in the manner with which he composed himself in light of the tugish behaviour from the gop hooligans.
