They both sound great! I have a Fender Deluxe Active Jazz V and love the tone but honestly the man behind the bass makes the difference. You can play the squire jaguar and then one of these and it still would sound amazing. It isn’t always about the equipment as much as it is the skill behind it.
The first thing I notice is the different ways the machine heads are set and the different string holders on the head stock.on the 5-string. I own the Player Plus as of maybe 3 1/2 months ago.
I think Fender Player Plus in this particular instance sounds more even across the fretboard and has more low mids. I like it more even though surf pearl sounds good too. both seem to have good solid low B which is nice.
I'd put them both in a double gig bag and march right into the gig. I like the sound of both and if I had to pick just one it would be the Deluxe. Great demo!
I have an all original 1997/98 John Suhr Fender Deluxe Jazz bass that has been my go to bass for a while now. Mainly because it sounds incredible (not just my opinion) but also because it feels so good to play. I feel like the Suhr era basses were some of the best that Fender made post 1990. Great video as always Jermaine!! 👊🏻
They both sound great. I’m a Fender Jazz guy so trust me when I tell you that I really enjoyed this video. If I have to make a choice being that it’s basically the same bass, I’d go with the Player Plus due to that I’m a fan of the 4/1 tuners and it has kind of a richer tone than the Deluxe. But not by a lot. Thanks for the great content. God Bless you Jermaine!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Dang Jermaine! In so glad I subscribed to your channel. I learn so much from you, I own a ULTRA JAZZ Mocha Burst (replaced crappy pickups with AGUILAR 5J) , , you are proof that it isn’t the instrument, it’s the player skill , you could make a $100 Chinese bass sound good!
Man, thank you for this video, I was fighting to chose between both of these! The Main Difference I Hear Between The Two Is That FPP sounds warmer and fuller. They’re both a great option for me.. just remained me of my current 70’s Jazz Classic V and Contemporary Jazz HH V ..
Wait, Did I read that right?! You have a Fender '70's Jazz Classic V string Bass?! 🤔 Is that a Custom Shop build? I've never seen or heard of one of those. Thanks.👊🏾
@@64jazz I’m sorry I meant A Fender Squirer Classic 70’s Jazz Bass V. It’s From The Previous Iteration Of 70’s Bass Line Up… Not The Classic Vibe…. Not A Huge Difference Between The Two Except The Wood Used For The Body.
@@dometriceallen2188 😄 Thanks. I really do wish Fender would come out with a 🤔70's themed series of 5 string Jazz Basses; call them '70's Vibe 5's 🤪😒... or something like that 😆👊🏾
I've got the surf pearl Deluxe, but put an antique white plate on, Aguilar noiseless pickups and John East JRetro Deluxe preamp.... unbelievably versatile and looks wonderful
Problems with the Player Plus I recently purchased....The string spacing at the bridge is to wide and the G string is practically falling off the neck....The action is too high because the saddles are set all the way down and the G side is still 8/64 high. The should have shimmed the neck.
Fred Hi Jermaine, The Fender Player Plus 5 String Jazz Bass is my choice. I like the clarity and punch and also the low end is not muddy. Plus the upper register it keeps its sound.
You do realize that in your hands brother Jermaine, they are gonna sound good. But if you hold a toy gun to my head I'd have to go with the white Jazz Bass. As it sounded a bit brighter than the black 4up 1down headed Bass. And thank you for the excersizes, I'm gonna have fun with them💯💯💯👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾😎😎😎
WoW!! I think they both have a great sound!! It’s hard for me to say which one I liked better!! I play a Fender Jazz American Elite V, ash body and maple neck!!! It’s really an incredible bass!! Thanks for posting this!! I’m still trying to get where you are!! Your playing is an inspiration to me!!! Thanks again!!
Well, if it isn't "the Fender Guy" 😆 What's up Bro'? I'm really diggin' that Player Plus both soundwise and looks, and I dig the 4/1 tuning machines. Great comparison vid., 'answers the questions that Fender guys would want to know when they're "on the fence" about which one they should get. 😄 Thanks again, Much Appreciated and continued success. 👊🏾

They both sound different, the deluxe sounds broken in, like it's been on the road, the fpp sounds new (stiff). Both sound good!

0:44 “the description in the link below” haha
They both sound good ..I’m a bit bias towards the surf pearl deluxe though

also, one thing to consider is the feel of the neck. if it feels right, the player plays good.
I've got the surf pearl Deluxe, but put an antique white plate on, Aguilar noiseless pickups and John East JRetro Deluxe preamp.... unbelievably versatile and looks wonderful
Great vid. If you get a chance It would be interesting to hear your take on Origin Effects Bass Rig Super Vintage and ‘64 Black pedals.
I just missed this live, but it would be good if before each bit of playing you said what the controls are set to, or if all knobs are on 10.
if I’m not bad, the fender jazz deluxe is made in USA 🇺🇸 and the fender player plus is made in Mexico right? ? 🤔🤔
Both bass made in Mexico
Delux is mexican , the other is american delux
That fender player has a warmer richer sound to me I like it
I would choose Fender Jazz Deluxe

I have both basses the fender player plus sounds almost like the American jazz bass in
I like the Deluxe, it was more aggressive.
Both are awesome and sounds very similar👍
Fred
Hi Jermaine,
The Fender Player Plus 5 String Jazz Bass is my choice.
I like the clarity and punch and also the low end is not muddy.
Plus the upper register it keeps its sound.
Jamaine which one is the best
What was the actual EQ setting that you used on the basses? Which pickup? Etc?
I missed one piece of info, which is which?
The deluxe is the green one
What is the name of the song you use to demo the basses. Really like the first song

I like the red Bass
did you check out the cheap but real good yamaha trbx 305 ?
FENDER DELUXE ACTIVE JAZZ BASS V 5-STRING BASS GUITAR 👍
No need for capitals. But you're right. Deluxe sounds like real one compared to plus.
The one with 5 tuners inline
Deluxe has more meat. Thanks for your videos.
The deluxe sounds more muffled and muddy, the player plus is much clearer to my ears.
I'm not a fender guy but I'll go with the player plus
a mí me gusta más el sonido de player plus , tiene un sonido más natural , siento que el otro tiene un ligero sonido metálico

Nice basses...
Me gusta más el sonido deluxe por su doble bobina en las pastillas suena conas cuerpo qué el player plus
Jazz deluxe all day
Closed my eyes. Couldn’t hear a $$$ difference 🤷♂️
The American j’s voice is clearer
They r both mexican jazz. Deluxe is older model and player plus is actual model
@@miguelbass8882 you sure about that…?
@@johnfloyd9343 yes. Not long time ago they upgraded the mexican active bass series. Before they were called deluxe and now is called player plus.
@@johnfloyd9343the USA does have a deluxe version however this particular one is mim it’s called the Fender deluxe special active
