Could feel your frustration at the end Alyn, but glad you still managed to capture it on the previous nights and loved the first image with the observatory in the foreground. Was good to see you getting some reward at the end of your challenging year and hope 2022 is a more fulfilling one for you
Comet Leonard gives me some sort of nostalgia when I look at old photos when it was on the way, it was the first comet I was exited for, saw it once through my telescope and never again even though I tried, I didn’t get to see Neowise, Leonard also was the first comet to make me realize that not all comets are visible with the naked eye, but now there’s a new comet on the way and hope I get a chance of seeing one again. It’s like I want to experience it again
Awesome work as always Alyn, sometimes got to take the rough with the smooth but still some stunning results in the end thanks for sharing another astrovlog with us
I'm glad that you were able to capture it. Images have great details. Very nice job. The real time night sky video was amazing. I tried to capture Leonard but wasn't able to capture it because of light pollution.
Fantastic vlog Alyn couldn't take my eyes off it. So glad you captured the comet but also gutted for you that you couldn't get to the lighthouse. Look forward to the next thanks for sharing. Still the best intro to a vlog .
Love the image of you looking out over La Gomera with your two cameras... really one to frame. Hard luck on the lighthouse shot, real shame. Have a great New Year!
Watching this video brought a massive smile to my face. I felt every emotion for you throughout this video, as for the images. . . They were all awesome 👏, I did love the upward panini and the thumbnail image you captured. You’ve inspired me to be more spontaneous and maybe book a flight to Tenerife in the near future for a milkyway sesh haha. Clear skies Alyn 🌌
Thanks for inspiring me about the nightsky and taking me on these trips via TH-cam. I bought a used Star Adventurer after I got hooked on your videos and tried some fixed tripod shots for deep-sky objects that I would stack (obligatory Andromeda of course). Additionally, I learnt about Neowise from you and got that pretty late due to bad weather. Leonard is unfortunately one I could not get due to the weather. Thanks for the inspirations and showing me the amazing night skies everytime you upload a video.
Absolutely brilliant Allyn your blogs and knowledge of photography are such an inspiration brilliant presentation as always looking forward to your next journey nice one
Great video, loved your improvised shots. I never got to see Comet Leonard at all. I'm so glad it wasn't Thomas Heaton making this video or I'm pretty sure there would have been tears! 😆
This is why I love photography. If I can't make it out to get a photo, someone probably will! Love that you were able to get a last chance view of Comet Leonard, I was stuck at home for work, and even though I made several attempts nearby, we had overcast skies every time. But I got NEOWISE back in 2020. I was out every clear night until the comet faded. And that kicked my interest in astrophotography into full swing. Sometimes We fail, and We must, so when We succeed, It feels all the more worth the troubles. Thank you for sharing, and hope you have a good new year!
As always, so good to see the journey with its ups and downs, not just the end results. I really like that vertical panorama with the Zodiacal light 👍 I must have told my wife about a 'once in a lifetime' astro event at least once a year lately!
Great vid as usual Alyn, always very interesting to see what you're doing and how you also include stuff that doesn't always work out! Have a great 2022 mate
It was refreshing to see some of your real-world behind-the-scenes frustrations, like your timelapse camera thinking ISO 100 was the best auto setting, the farmer’s bright light, and the rock slide road closure. These are typical examples of obstacles that astrophotographers need to overcome, which makes the resulting image(s) only that much more rewarding.
Great video Alyn, I guess it shows the continual frustrations we all get with this hobby, but with perseverance you still got some fantastic images, as always, love the whole story narrative in this one, kr Ian
Awesome Vlog Alyn! Really good storytelling and amazing images. Really sorry about the last chance, but sometimes that's how it goes, glad you got it anyway! Unfortunately I wasn't able to do the same this time, but I'm so happy to have gotten last year Neowise, which was also for me the first time shooting and seeing a comet and also going out after lockdown and a great way to give me back that photography inspiration that I needed, so I thank you for that 👍👍
A great story behind a great event, so pleased you you caught it on camera and the length you went to get it. Your thumbnail shot is awesome but my favourite is the 85mm pano. Thanks for bringing us along with you.
Very nice story you told Alyn! I can clearly comprehend your feelings, catching the comet, especially in this times! In a few months in june i will hopfully have the same fellings, standing and shooting with the starry skies of La Palma. Stay healthy and all the best for 2022, Jörg from northern germany
I love your vlogs mate. They gave me comfort during the lonely months of lock down. To this day I still look forward to a new video and I often rewatch some your old ones.
You're absolutely right!!! The 3rd picture is amazing!!! Serves as a great memory of you making the effort and chasing the comet and above all getting to witness something like this! Great job, Alyn!
Hi Alyn, love the video, as i do all your videos. I have a question if you don't mind. When you were shooting the time lapse, i'm assuming you were in manual but why auto-iso? Wouldn't that over expose? I've only done a few time lapse's before so clearly i'm no expert. Just wondering if this is something i've been missing out on, lol. Thanks!!!
1 Island & Comet & Jupiter @ 13.25. 2 Observatory & Comet. 3 @ 5.15 Island sunset @ 9.20 4. You the comet the Island & Jupiter @ 14.10. all great images H.N.Y Alyn
Since I subscribed to your channel, I find myself observing the passing of time through celestial events. I've been hyper-sensitive to the sun since my 20's, but now I can no longer expose my skin to sunlight or wear sunscreen, so becoming a night owl seems a logical progression. The night is peaceful and introspective, and in these trying times, I've found a new sense of being where I'm supposed to be, when the time is right for me to be there, and accepting that we all fit where we belong. Thank you for that, and thank you for the images that fill my mind with such beauty.
Beautiful shots, Alyn. I vote for the third photo of the group. I think your presence in the photo adds a breath of humanity to the depths of space. Wishing you a great 2022!
Be glad you got it Alyn, I wasn't able to capture it at all living above the arctic circle and not really wanting to fly anywhere. We have so few clear skies the last two months and the comet was far too low in the horizon to see anything. However, I did capture some epic sunrises in late November early December. My last sunrise shot was at 1:30 PM December 6th... yes I'm that far north. Your compositions are always inspiring.
So glad you you went and made this video. I live in northern CA. It was raining and cloudy for 2 weeks. I live near some farmland and have a fairly good view of the south and west horizon. And there are many people out here who just love bright lights on their land . I did get to see Neowise every evening for many days. Thank you for sharing. If I had to choose... The observatory and the last one.
My favorite shot was the one with you and your gear in frame. The road being closed for 3 months and no one telling you that the first time they turned you away must have been so frustrating. But you had a great attitude! And you were able to turn the situation around and get some great shots, anyway. Well done!
I love to watch every single one of your Astro Vlogs Alyn, the passion for photographing the night sky and spending time under the stars you deliver through your videos is just so contagious! Thank you for sharing your journey through your videos 😊 keep up the good work Alyn, Cheers!
started to get chills just because of the fact that i saw a shooting star for the first time after 21 years.... well done bro, including this whole vid
4 minutes 30 seconds in you sum up beautifully the amazing moment as that shutter closes, the vast wonder of space and all its beauty comes to life and doesn't matter how many times I shoot the milkway its always a moment I love as that shutter closes 👌🏻
Loved the video Alyn! This captures astrophotography in its true authenticity. Can’t even say how many times I’ve gone out with a specific vision and had to improvise and adapt to the circumstances 😅 The images turned out great! My fav was the portrait at the end.. it tells the story of the journey and captures the essence of the moment 💫
Wow what an experience, I almost felt I was right there, I also felt that feeling when you finished all your exposure and wish let this moment freeze so we can enjoy the lovely treat to our eyes forever. I live in Bortle 8 sky and tried my best to locate the comet but had hard luck.
Nicely done, Alan! Great shots. 👍 We had fun chasing Leonard too. Fought some cloudy days and obstructions on the horizon to get a couple of shots. It was definitely a tough one for us last year. 😀
You nailed it really well. Great location too. I was stuck in Germany but got just the one "clear" night, headed to the darkest spot I could find in the east, and ... -10°C, with a blanket of fog just thick enough to obscure it completely. But, on the return journey I found a higher spot in an otherwise flat landscape, stopped and picked it up in just one shot although I couldn't see it with the naked eye. Them's the breaks. Rock on, Alyn. Really enjoying your work
Alyn, amazing video as always. Unfortunate that you didn't manage to get the 'bucket shot' that you were after but thankfully you managed to get a stellar image of Comet Leonard. My favourite would have to be the one where you are standing in the forgeround with Leonard shining bright. Really liked that image. Thank you for always keeping me motivated to do astro (its more often than not cloudy here in Manchester!) and always making me happy when watching your videos, always waiting impatiently for the next! Your doing great things and you deserve even more! Keep up the awesome work and congratulations on the 100k plaque - thoroughly deserved.
amazing how you can think of ways to capture the shot! no matter what mother nature throws at you. thanks alyn. you never disappoint. the photo at the end with you and the two tripods is my favourite🙏🏼
Awesome video Alyn. Really sorry about the road closure but you made the best of the journey anyway. I think I liked the wider shot with zodiacal light the best. Take care mate . .all the very best for 2022.
My two favorites are the planetarium and comet and the one the one you called a thumbnail. Thank you for sharing. In southern California. i didn't have much luck of seeing the comet and when i was finally at a darker sky, it rained. your pictures made my day, thank you again.
wow this is so beautiful!!! it feels like we are in space floating and something unknown and unseen is flying just near us. Like it is a miracle guest that waved us like "hellloo" :)))
Brilliant vlog and photos Alyn. Loved them all, favourite is the comet and observatory shot. Awesome music, production and honest story of your trip. Having tried most types of photography I think landscape astrophotography is one of the hardest types and you do some of the best images and undoubtedly do the best youtube channel. All the best for 2022 , it’s gonna be a much better one I’m sure
4:43 For a brief playful moment I felt Comet Leonard captured you beautifully. 5:11 Thank you 14:04 Agree, a great picture capturing the whole trip very nicely.
Wow, thanks for sharing this Alyn, some lovely shots of the comet...👍..Couple bitter sweet moments for you, especially with the road being closed. But hey, you managed to get it. I tried and failed, good old clouds in south Wales valley's...
i know how you feel about capturing the moment, mine will not look anything like yours taken in a rush but same 85mm f1.8 lens. one good night among many rainy days. but the feeling of seeing it on the back of the camera and also spotting it in the binos was just awesome. But i did not have to fly 2900km so kudos to you for the effort you put in and you got some amazing shots and more importantly amazing memories of your effort.
Hi Alyn, that first image of the comet and Teide Observatory was definitely my favourite. Such a clean image and great composition. Happy New Year mate. Hope to catch up with you in 2022. Stay safe.
Alyn, as soon as you mentioned the view with the observatory and Volcano I knew it was going to be a nice shot but WOW. Seeing the Comet going over the Observatory was breathtaking, what a capture. Really loved the last shot though, it does tell a great story and glad you didn't miss it. Clear Skies mate!!!
So pleased you managed to capture the comet Alyn. I had no chance here in West Cornwall due to weeks of cloud. You must have been gutted to find the park closed though. Wonderful images, especially the first one, thanks as always for taking us along on your adventure.
Hey Alyn, sorry to hear things haven't been great last year - I just wanted to say I love your content, I've been learning a ton from you and the WITNS series is my bible for preparing for my night sky shots. Thanks for doing this! Also the comet shots are top notch man
The glow in the dark tape for the star Adventurer scope is great. I've been using my phone screen to briefly illuminate the reticle but then it's harder to see Polaris. Great idea I'll implement. Thanks!
That last shot with you in the foreground is my pick of the three. As you said, it captures the story of your trek and the fantastic result. Excellent presentation as usual.
Loved your final image showing you looking out towards the heavens. I keep wondering why we try to photograph the night skies? We run into so many obstacles including unexpected lights, road closures, people driving up leaving car lights on and oh yes, the weather. The reason we photograph the night skies, our memories observing celestial phenomena and the challenges while trying to capture once in a life time experiences. Unfortunately, I missed the comet. I live in Massachusetts in the US and the comet set before sunset OR clouds, clouds and more clouds. Thanks for sharing your video
Great video Alyn, your passion and dedication for this comet really shines through, I really enjoyed watching your adventure, and as a fellow comet nut I fully understand your drive and emotions for this. I love the first image over the domes and the last showing you and the cameras, well done.
Your commitment is phenomenal. The setbacks didn't help but you kept going and got the best shot you could in circumstances. Hope you enjoyed a nice holiday.
Fantastic shots Alyn! Incredible the way you put this together. I share your frustration with the farmer - as one who lives in an agricultural region of central Canada, farm lights are prolific and ruin dark skies. However they are put there because of thieves. When you live in the country you are sometimes hours away from police protection so rural theft is a huge problem. Big lights help a little. But it does hinder the night. Anyway, Cheers mate! Looking forward to your next vid.
Understand those frustrations! I could never get anywhere to get a decent image of Leonard around Christmas. Either the skies were too cloudy, or Christmas plans ruined a chance to get out. I did get one image, but took a lot of work and was not interesting due to the light pollution. Glad you got to see it though, thanks for the video!
These vlog-style videos of yours are great. I did not get a chance to image the comet myself (weather absolutely NOT playing along), so these videos of yours kind of brings the viewer along with you. I really enjoyed watching this.
Every plan fails at first contact. What you did get was fantastic. My favourite was the last thumbnail as the shot is nicely framed with plenty of interest and the Zodiac light is reduced and less distracting. The comet looks fab. 2nd was the comet over the observatory. Well done chap.
Fabulous images as always Alyn, vlog is a testament to thinking on your feet and being able to capture something very special as, a result. Loved the first image and the pano over La Gomera 👍
Third image for sure, great job. Had a similar experience to you for neowise, and I assume you are referring to hale bop for the comet when you were young. Such memorable moments in our journey on this “mote of dust”
Amazing work as always such a inspiration to me helping me get into the Astro photography sector. I was wondering if you could add a updated what’s in my bag or camera gear video for the new year to help me with my GCSE research.
Great shots! I only got a couple of shots of Leonard as we were clouded over the whole time I was out, except for a half-hour window one morning. I was taking wide sky shots so I could find the comet and zoom in for "real" shots. I got several shots, and before I could find it in the frame it was clouded over. I only saw that I got it when I got home and put it on the computer, but I at least got a keepsake picture. Thankfully, I got a few nights of awesome stuff from NEO
Tough breaks on accessing that road. That's a shame there wasn't a way to inform people ahead of time that it was inaccessible. I don't know how you handled it off camera, but on camera, your demeanor was exemplary. It's sobering to see you take it in stride. Thank you. You asked which image viewers liked best. I haven't been to your website or Instagram to see what you've posted under better viewing conditions, but based on what you shared on this video, I liked the first image best, with the observatory on the horizon. It seemed more crisp and clean.
Could feel your frustration at the end Alyn, but glad you still managed to capture it on the previous nights and loved the first image with the observatory in the foreground. Was good to see you getting some reward at the end of your challenging year and hope 2022 is a more fulfilling one for you
...felt the pain...gr8 vlog...i Loved the final pic with you in it.
Terrific images, Alyn - so glad you captured it on behalf of those of us here who failed to before the year was out!
Cheers Paul!
It’s like I want to experience it again
your passion for the photography shows through on your videos I love watching them and it has got me out at night to try some photography
That's awesome to hear, thanks!
Awesome work as always Alyn, sometimes got to take the rough with the smooth but still some stunning results in the end thanks for sharing another astrovlog with us
All photos were amazing. My favorite is the last one.
Loved the video. Nothing better than a astrophotography travel vlog. 😄
I'm glad that you were able to capture it. Images have great details. Very nice job. The real time night sky video was amazing. I tried to capture Leonard but wasn't able to capture it because of light pollution.
Best Video of Comet Leonard ☄️ In Whole TH-cam, I Really Love This Astrovlog Video Alyn Brother ❤️
You are Right 👍
Fantastic vlog Alyn couldn't take my eyes off it. So glad you captured the comet but also gutted for you that you couldn't get to the lighthouse. Look forward to the next thanks for sharing. Still the best intro to a vlog .
A superb video Alyn, a roller-coaster of a watch! :-) so happy you got to make some memorable captures! 👍👍
Love the image of you looking out over La Gomera with your two cameras... really one to frame.
Hard luck on the lighthouse shot, real shame.
Have a great New Year!
You win some you lose some! Thanks
Great shots. My favourite is probably the one you did as your thumb nail.
What song did you use at the end of the video???? I really like it but I can't find it anywhere 😭😭😭 great pictures by the way
Thanks for inspiring me about the nightsky and taking me on these trips via TH-cam. I bought a used Star Adventurer after I got hooked on your videos and tried some fixed tripod shots for deep-sky objects that I would stack (obligatory Andromeda of course). Leonard is unfortunately one I could not get due to the weather.
Thanks for the inspirations and showing me the amazing night skies everytime you upload a video.
My pleasure!
Amazing captures Alyn. Turned out beautiful
Yew glad you got to see it mate, your last photo with you in the frame is my favourite.
Absolutely brilliant Allyn your blogs and knowledge of photography are such an inspiration brilliant presentation as always looking forward to your next journey nice one

An amazing vlog, capturing your emotion, and photography, great work Alyn, all the best for 2022
Great vid as usual Alyn, always very interesting to see what you're doing and how you also include stuff that doesn't always work out! Have a great 2022 mate
Incredible shots! How amazing to have been able to see and capture this
I also loved the thumbnail photo you took with you and your two cameras in the frame! Awesome stuff as usual Alyn!
Wonderful. Well done and thanks for sharing!

You're absolutely right!!! The 3rd picture is amazing!!! Serves as a great memory of you making the effort and chasing the comet and above all getting to witness something like this! Great job, Alyn!

So long as exposure compensation is set to 0 it won't over-expose. I used auto ISO because I started the timelapse when it was still twilight.
@@AlynWallace ok. Thank you for explaining that for me. I will have to try it. Learn something new every day. Thanks again.

Awesome video Alyn. Really sorry about the road closure but you made the best of the journey anyway. I think I liked the wider shot with zodiacal light the best. Take care mate . .all the very best for 2022.
14:20 you are right. The best and touching too
I found all the pictures magical. The wide panorama of the celestial shot was my favorite.

14:04 Agree, a great picture capturing the whole trip very nicely.
Wow, thanks for sharing this Alyn, some lovely shots of the comet...👍..Couple bitter sweet moments for you, especially with the road being closed. But hey, you managed to get it. I tried and failed, good old clouds in south Wales valley's...

Thanks!
I'm so glad you caught it. I lived that trip through you thank you. I caught to with your help Alyn glad I found you.
Loved the first image and the pano over La Gomera 👍
i missed it. The first clear skies at Dec 20 were already too late, no chance to find the comet in the evening dusk.
Wonderful vid Alyn, myself and my wife did 10 days walking on La Gomera about 5 years ago so brought back some fond memories 👍
Very beautiful images Alyn! I like the image with you and your setup capturing the comet. Great work! Congrats.
Awesome toys you have there! and just so happy you did capture Leonard" Yay" ☄️✨🌠
Great video Alyn. Didn’t get to see the comet myself so really good to see your amazing images of it. Congratulations on 100k too 👏
7:15 Been there at that very spot, it's beautiful. I've also had the pain of being turned away trying to get to the lighthouse too!
After the dullest December in 65 years this really cheered me up. Great capture.
That last selfie image with you and Leonard over that island is really good 📸. Thanks for sharing what we only dream about doing.
Keep up the good work man. The vertical pano appealed to me the most. It had all the elements right in place.
Looking forward to more stuff from you.🌌
Great photo, congratulations. I was trying a few nights here in Australia around Xmas and NY but the weather hasn't been kind to me...
Awesome work dude! That picture of you, the comet and the island is awesome and inspiring
Well done Alyn you’ve captured some really fantastic skies. The Zodiacal glow and Comet Leonard looks great over the Canary Islands 🇮🇨 &
I am really glad you got to catch this one, Alyn. I missed this one myself so I know that feeling. Best of luck on your next adventure. :)
