Orchha is believed to have been established in 16th century by Maharaja Rudra Pratap Singh and after undergoing many changes it got its glory during the reign of Raja Madhukar Shah who constructed his palace in the fort complex, named as Raja Mahal in early 17th century. He was a deeply religious person and the palace constructed by him is decorated with beautiful murals showing the stories of Indian gods and their stories. How these 500 year old intricately designed murals painted in different colors are still intact is a great surprise and testimony to those ancient artists who were expert in the science of beautiful colors used.
