good job done. It is not that jagjit singh was not comfortable with tough verse but he is the only singer who reached out to masses and made ghazal popular by his simple and pure touch. it is because of him that many of us today also started listening ghazals of other singers. This is his real contribution to the ghazal. There can be better singer or lesser than him but his deep, natural flow, natural pathos simply starts melting your heart so easily that is incomparable and no one else has this quality. He has created such a vacuum which is not easily to be filled in. This rendition also bears Jagjit Singh stamp of being beyond comparison.Wonderful
CM Sharma .. and he brought in the guitar and Santoor ... and the solo violin ...and took the masses with him down his own path as an alternative alongside the great Mehdi Hasan .

जगजीत सिंह की ये ग़ज़ल रोज़ सुनना मेरे लिए अत्यंत आवश्यक है। सबसे ज्यादा अच्छी लगने वाली चमत्कारी गायकी। कोई भी गायक इस ग़ज़ल को जगजीत सिंह की कॉपी करके गाने की हिम्मत करने की कोशिश भी नहीं कर सका अभी तक।

Nice post, thanks. Its unusual for him to sing complicated poetry such as this in the 1990s. For obvious reasons he's left out more complicated verses from the same poem:
Nazr-e-adaa hua, ki niyaaz-e-qaza hua
Pehlu mein ek dil tha, khuda jaane kya hua
Apni hadood se na badhe ishq mein koi
Qatra hubaab banke jo ubhra, fanaa hua
When I started touring, i understood 5%, being brought up in Scotland, by the end of my journey I understood 95%. Jagjit Uncle to keep the poetry simple and understandable to the masses. Where he did think the poetry was complex, we would translate it in Hindi and English. When I really did not understand something I asked him, if he was in a jokey mood, would tell me a pack of lies !...
+Avtar Bedi I think its not that Jagjit Ji were not comfortable with complicated poetry but it may be his personal choice to go with something more understandable to most of listeners. He has done remarkable work with many difficult poetry. Personally I feel " Aye Ghame dil kya karoon" sung by Jagjit ji is much better than the same sung by others.
also "Kabhi yoon bhi to aa meri aankon main" is superb
