    Editors note: I didn’t exactly explain how or why Setoguchi declined after his great start, his decline actually came from a combination of alcohol abuse and depression and was unfortunate 😥 nowadays he’s recovering and doing a lot better!

    I love Paul Kariya. He was an amazing player and so humble about it.

    • @hockeyxchange3
      @hockeyxchange3  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He was! He was always putting others before him and always made sure his teammates were also recognized too!

    I remember seeing Park’s OT goal back in 2003. That was the first real big moment for that franchise. And Kariya was just an amazing player. It is such a bummer that he was never able to lift the Cup, but I am glad he was inducted into the Hall. Nice video! Keep it up, my friend!

    This is a really cool vid! I’m Filipino American and I had no idea that Dumba was Filipino. That’s really cool! I really hope you an update video in the future on Asian descent because now Jason Robertson is from Filipino descent (plays on the Dallas Stars) and his brother Nick (plays on the Toronto Maple Leafs) but he plays in the AHL for now!

    • @hockeyxchange3
      @hockeyxchange3  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I definitely will be making an updated video on it soon cause a lot of milestones and historical moment have happened the past couple years with asian players that played in the NHL!

    I really liked Jim Paek, he was a solid if not flashy defenseman. Wish he would have stuck in the NHL longer.

      I wish I was around back when he played, would’ve been so cool to see him play along with Lemieux and the Penguins!

    Growing up in the 90s and seeing Mighty Ducks movie in the first place to really love hockey, it was natural for me to love the Ducks, and cherry on top when I figured out that Paul Kariya was a Japanese descent like myself through search on his bio through AOL. And he wasn't just a 'regular' player, he became a HOFer, an inspiration to a lot, regardless of ethnic background.

    What about Taro Tsujimoto

  • @bsputnik
    @bsputnik ปีที่แล้ว

    I was 10 years old, watching Jim Paek live the dream of taking a pass from Lemieux and scoring in the finals. It made him one of my all time favorites. For those who dont know hockey, he is what is called a "true defenseman." He is to protect his own goal, not put up flashy scoring numbers. When team Korea bowed to him in the Olympics, I shed a tear. A great moment for hockey. I hope Korean hockey grows and he gets Hall of Fame recognition as a builder.
    Lots of people my age in pittsburgh will light up when his name is mentioned. List of favorites from those Cup teams always include him.

    • @hockeyxchange3
      @hockeyxchange3  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Appreciative to share your own experiences witnessing him play! He definitely deserves some recognition for building hockey in South Korea & for Asian hockey players for sure!

    You should check your numbers on Kariya’s record in playoffs, though.

    It’s nice knowing there’s a Filipino player in the NHL. Being a Filipino hockey fan I feel like a fish out of water, cause I don’t know other Filipinos that like this sport. If only they knew Matt Dumba.

    • @hockeyxchange3
      @hockeyxchange3  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Definitely! There’s a few more things to update about Matt Dumba’s profile since last season which I may make in another video but it’s always great to see fans and players from other ethnicities enjoy the sport of hockey!

    I’m Mexican and I love hockey but one thing that has always bugged me is the lack of POC players in the league, but i understand hockey isn’t that popular. So I’m asking you, if you can please do more videos like these especially one on Hispanic/Latino players in the NHL. Thank you.

    In my opinion and I'm Asian. If there's a fantastic Asian player around. He will be hired! He might need to be more outstanding, good looking, a role model...etc but there's definitely a place for them. They just need to live up to the standard. They need to stand out period. It's simple, look at the Olympics figure skating... So many Asians right? Because they exist in that category.
    I don't see many Asian play hockey at all.
