    Dump valve trem on 20"...that's something you see everyday!

    Thank you, Chris, for your very educational and thorough explanation of the 11-rank Cornet. The voicing room "lecture"was extremely interesting, and your captions at the very end meant a lot. I know this is something you've wanted to hear for a long time. How it relates to your career in pipe organs was poignant.

      Thanks. Next visit I'm going to re-do the part of the GC XI video showing the pipes on the chest, etc, due to the poor audio. My nice little Sony camcorder I used for years got lost or stolen last visit to AC, and I bought a new one that I don't like- it used to be I could turn the camera around and my narration still came through pretty well, but not with this new Panasonic.

    Can't you look into a part of the organ (that is being played (most) at that moment) during a concert? That seems really cool to me!

    I grew up with a father that got a RM316 installed in a remodeled garage 90% operational - if you don't count the combination action on the console.
    This video reinforced that the Midmer-Losh at Boardwalk Hall is a huge organ on a huge scale installed into a huge facility.
    Have 'we' toured that SR relay-and-wind-distribution room in a previous video?

    Hi Chris, could you briefly explain what we’re looking at here? What are the noisy things you show us in the workshop? Why are they situated there? (Seeing as they make such a racket). Do they do that all the time when the organ’s powered up? Must drive everyone in the workshop crazy!
    I saw you answered someone else’s question about the bit up the stairs toward the end of the video. Is that switcher/keyer room still used or is part of the preserved infrastructure before solid state was installed?
    Thanks!
    Nick

      Those pulsating boxes in the shop are called reservoirs, I believe. They are fed by the blowers, storing excess air. They also help regulate the wind pressure and avoid sudden pressure drops when a rank is played, especially chords.

    • @nickelodeus
      @nickelodeus 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks very much for your kind reply. I wonder why they’re situated there? Surely something that makes such a noise when in operation would be in its own room? Thanks again. Nick

    • @cnagorka
      @cnagorka  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@nickelodeus They're situated there because most of the right chamber winding is in the organ shop, period. The fact that it's noisy doesn't matter. If you think that's intense you should feel what some of the big diaphones do in the organ shop, it's pretty intense. And there are dump valve boxes like that throughout the organ, some outside their respective chambers and some inside...I think this one is particularly noisy because it's on 20".

      @nickelodeus 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@cnagorka thanks Chris. Must be a bit of guess-timation in the siting of some of the noisier bits of infrastructure. It needing to be nearby for convenience but tucked away enough to not be audible in the auditorium.
      On another note, can you show us the powering up / shutting down procedure for the organ sometime?
      Thanks again

    Clearly not an organ builder here, so apologies for the n00b question. Is the beating at 1:19 due to a tremulant being drawn? Apart from the Tibia Clausa I can't imagine trem'ing any of the voices listed, and would someone trem a 32? Or is the organist trem'ing the Tibia at higher pitches and it hits this regulator because it's a unit rank?

    • @cnagorka
      @cnagorka  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes that's the trem running, and I think those are unit ranks so the trem is affecting them higher up.

      @@cnagorka Thanks! I half-stumbled on to the answer while writing the question, but I am grateful to have confirmation. It must be something to be in the workshop when a bunch of tremulants are running. Polyrhythm central!

    • @cnagorka
      @cnagorka  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@principals16842 Actually it wouldn't be a polyrhythm because all of the trem units are running off of one master in the Great blower room. So if you heard a bunch of boxes at once they would all be timed the same way (per side, anyway, there are two trem masters, one for everything on the right on and one for everything on the left side of the room).
