Dude not only do I love this channel, I don't want to think about going on without it. Too many times I've had woken up sad for legit reasons on a Sunday morning and Johnny has taken some of that weight off my shoulders.
I've pretty much given up watching all of the TH-cam channels I was religiously watching since 2010...all except this one. I can't imagine a time where I stop watching The Happy Console Gamer! I'm 43 now and this channel has been part of my life for over a quarter of it!
Last year I got really sick and started suffering from severe anxiety due to insomnia. My wife use to put on youtube and put your videos run non stop. It was the only thing that will make me relax and fall asleep. Now Im back to 💯 and I still watch your channel every day. Thank you 🙏 for all the great content. You are the freaking best!!
One of the great things about these videos is how all over the place the stuff is. It isn't just the newest PS5/Xbox/Switch games, it's stuff from EVERYWHERE.
You make gaming positive and special when many of these gaming channels are just about the drama and negativity. I appreciate what you are doing so very much and I hope you continue forever.
Hey, thanks for discussing the book! By the way, did you catch the Easter egg? Down in the corner by the page numbers, there are sprites of the characters. As you flip through the pages, you'll notice that the characters in the corner coincide with when they join your party. But if you keep flipping, you'll see their walking animations as a flipbook.
Why do you make cool stategy guides like this then associate yourself with a gang of internet criminals like the Sarucrew who all go around doxing people? If you bought anything from DJ I'd be VERY careful.
I just love this channel. Couldn't stop smiling when Johnny was talking about the model. Such a nice & warm feeling you get when you hear a story like that.
I love the fact you're such an avid game maniac who really goes out of his way for all these coolly nostalgic gems...That homemade guide for Phantasy Star is awesome. 🥳🤗😎
Johnny thank you so much for showing the fun positive things about games/anime/ collectibles we love. There's too much negativity all over and it's refreshing to see someone talk about this stuff.
turn 40 this year and i seen your video 10 years ago about 40 years old gamer, well i guess i just over thinking why am i 40 years old now and still love games and anime. your videos related to even my age, and that ninja turtle BGM, my head just moving by itself when i heard it 😂
What a phenomenal story at the end. There’s nothing quite like the end of a hunt for something very vague but very memorable from your early years. You best summed it up by calling it an “out it body experience”. I’m glad you had closure on that memory and I loved that story!!!
You’re one of the best storytellers when it comes to things like this. I had chills and the nostalgia was real. Love this channel and love how you embrace the lifestyle.
Hi Johnny, I do think there is one other reason you buy vinyl of games music (if you don’t mind me suggesting). You have a love for physical media. I collect for the Megadrive and also analogue cameras, and CDs. In the 80s/90s buying physical media would be a moment. Downloading something isn’t a moment.
That Phantasy Star Guide looks so good! Also, solving a mystery memory from a childhood is such a treat. I still have mine about watching an anime from 80s/early 90s about a postapocalliptic kind-of western setting, probably an OVA, being very graphic and gritty. Although so many anime from that period fit that line, it is difficult to really find the one that I believe was the maybe very first anime I watched from a VHS I borrowed back when I was only 7 years old.
In the early 90s my parents used to take me to a local arcade at South Shields beach in the UK. I would always play beat em ups as they were some of my favourite types of game at the time. This one arcade had a particular beat em up that none of the other arcades had and I would always play it whenever I was there, yet I never knew it's name. As the years went by I was never able to find it, as I could only ever remember that you could play as one of two characters and one wore a karate suit and at the end of the fight an ambulance would take you away. Now I would literally think about this game on a regular basis for literally decades (I seriously did) until one day on the 24th of January 2021 when I found it. By chance I was watching a TH-cam video of all arcade beat em up's from the 80's & 90's and all of a sudden a 20 or 30 second clip of the the game I was looking for was just on the screen in front of me along with it's name "Street Smart" and it was by SNK. It's just one of those moments when you find something from your childhood that you never thought you'd ever see again and you could only picture in your memory and all of a sudden it was there. I googled it and found out that it had actually been released as part of a SNK 40th Anniversary Collection for the PS4 and it was on amazon for £26.26. The next day it was sitting in my PS4 and I was playing the you know what out of it. Now It's not the greatest game in the world by a long shot, but my god to actually be playing that game again felt amazing and the satisfaction of just finding out it's name after so many years was quite a relief to me. Speech over lol.😂
Your story telling is unmatched Johnny. Also love that you make a lot of things into a moment. I really need to do that more. I have two vague memories of 2 cartoons. First was a Christian cartoon show during the 90’s on uk tv about kids getting chased be romans. Not really super religious but the name of the program alluded me. Second is even vaguer. It’s a memory of a cartoon that involves a giant and it might have been set in Norway. That’s all I have.
22:47 Throughout most of my life, I couldn't remember the name of the anime that somewhat resembles Power Rangers, but they were in bird super hero outfits. I gave up trying for so long that it became a repressed memory. It wasn't until Capcom vs Tatsunoko came out on the Wii console is when I was challenged again to remember the anime show. Did some research and found "Science Ninja Team Gatchaman". I remember it as "G-Force" which happened to be the 2nd English dub and it was called "Battle of the Planets" when it was first dubbed in English. Couple of years ago I randomly remembered Ronin Warriors on Cartoon Network. Sadly I couldn't find any streaming services that offered this show. Found it on Blu-Ray on Amazon with it's original title "Legendary Armor Samurai Troopers".
Been playing stellar blade and loving it, my biggest problem is that the characters are kind of flat, but everything else is fantastic, I'm definitely keeping my eye on shift up in the future
I've got a mystery game. I remember my grandad showing me some games in the 90s (UK), I remember using a black keyboard, pretty sure they were also cassette based games (so possibly an Amstrad console). It's really hard to be sure but I think the graphics were a black background with only green linework to draw the level/characters. The game in question was a side scroller type game, you played as a spy or something like it, and i want to say your character wore a fedora-like hat, but the more i think about it the more i doubt myself... That's pretty much all I've got. It's a very old memory, but I've been interested in finding out what that game was for years.
Stellar Blade looks great, it's on my list for sure! I always support the games that I get review copies for as well by buying them physically for my collection.
Johnny you are so important to the gaming community. The way you describe moments from the past and the feeling you get from it . Their is just so much we can relate to. You are the best Johnny..
I hardly ever have any idea what you're talking about because I never got into video games growing up or otherwise, other than the original gameboy and the nintendo 64, both for which I have great nostalgia. But I watch your videos all the time and every moment is a learning moment for me. It's a pleasure to hear your "ramblings" as you say. I just wanted to say I enjoy every second of it, and thank you for your very uplifting and entertaining vibe that you offer viewers.

In response to the final part of this video talking about the tank, I had a memory for a long time about renting a PS1 game with a talking sword and I really liked the game back then when I played it and couldn't figure out the name for such a long time. Then like 7 or 8 years ago I figured out the name was Tales of Destiny and I went and immediately got a CIB copy of it. I still have it to this day. I love that game.
I have this early memory of playing a Genesis game where you get new outfits that give you abilities. It was a buried memory for decades. Finally after years of searching here and there, watching your videos made me realize it was Syd of Valis! How random!
Fighter's History Dynamite is called Karnov's Revenge in our arcades in the Philippines. My main was Clown. Played the hell out of it. 90's was the best.
Okay, why would you buy the turtles soundtrack for NES on vinyl? Because that soundtrack was killer, and 35 years later I'm still humming those awesome songs.nice one Johnny

I'd really love if Johnny made a video talking about his favourite shooters/shmups. I've been slowly building a collection of shooters myself, and so I'm always on the lookout for recommendations.
I get it with the vinyl. I restrict myself from buying video game records cuz I would go down that rabbit hole and spend so much money. It is awesome though. I think the greatest thing about vinyl is that it really requires you to be still and enjoy a whole album--have a moment, as you say--due to it being so fussy and having to get up and flip it and what not, keep the dust off, set the needle. Its just a totally different experience than streaming music these days, or even cds.
I *love* the memories. Plus… I’m so embarrassed about my backlog of purchased games. Every time I buy a new one my good old hubby is like: don’t you have like 34 to finish first!? 🤷🏼♀️
I’ve given up the mindset of having to ”finish” games, i have so limited time that i just play what i feel like (curse of adult and parental responsibilities) So don’t be embarrassed I’ve finished i think one game this year 😅
@@pvt.prinny759 Gaming *is* all about enjoying, right? …Maybe not ‘embarrassing’ but that backlog sure remains daunting! Haha. But I’ll enjoy what I’m playing when I’m playing as we all should :)
I'm still working my way through FF7 Rebirth. I think I've put about 70 hours in already, and according to the PS5 home screen I'm only about 65% of the way through the story. I've got some time off work coming up, so I'm hoping to make some serious progress. Aside from FF7, I just can't stop thinking about the Dragon Quest 3 Remake lately and it's making me really want to go back and replay a DQ game. I think I'll wait to see if there's any news on Dragon Quest Day later this month, and if there's no word of the game's release date then I'm just going to assume they're sitting on it for the Switch 2 launch and will have to find another DQ game to play in the meantime.
My older brother also had a blurry mystery memory of seeing Chewbacca on tv with his own family, (amongst other oddities, like Princess Lieh singing.) Nobody he told this story to seemed to know what he was talking about, and he figured he must be crazy lol. He learned much later that he was one of the "lucky" few who caught the one and only airing of the infamous "Star Wars Christmas Special," which indeed filled in those missing memories lol.
Love that Phantasy Star Guide! So much work, what an amazing guy. Johnny, you have to show the sketch you made of that crawler, I'm curious how close you got from memory :P
Johnny man I know exactly what you mean about taking a moment with a physical tangible thing, or a movie/show/etc, and really connecting and reflecting. Good stuff.
Would love to know the ending music for the video too? Know its familiar and I hear it in all your videos but cant put my finger on it. Much love from Wakefield!
I used to play a game a long time ago before it was stolen from me. For years I could not for the life of me remember the name of the game. That is, until yesterday when I watched a video by RNG Gamer where he talked about Divinity 2 Ego Draconis. It was wild how the second he showed some gameplay how all the memories came flooding back!
If anyone ever wonders how Johnny can have such a great memory, recalling all these specific details from his childhood and reciting niche information about 30+ year old games/anime: it's because of what he discussed in this episode. Framing every experience as a special moment. We've gotta stop mindlessly consuming games/shows/music and just slow down for a second, really appreciate it, and make a memorable moment out of the little things!
Stellar Blade is absolutely stellar! I have only been playing it since launch. Totally support this game as Johnny said, we need more games like this. Thanks for sharing your gaming update.

But in the book I use an overlay to make it look more like it was drab using colored pencil.
Will happily take you up on the pdf Phantasy Star Strategy Guide! Thank You Popixel!
You’re welcome
Johnny man I know exactly what you mean about taking a moment with a physical tangible thing, or a movie/show/etc, and really connecting and reflecting. Good stuff.
Still trying to platinum stellar blade
I’ve been playing FF7 Rebirth and Another Crabs Treasure
I just finished Phantasy Star Generation 1 English translation
Chrysalis is on the Nintendo switch online. Good game but got stuck on the poison forest area.
Man I just love your videos! that story at the end was great!
Would love to know the ending music for the video too? Know its familiar and I hear it in all your videos but cant put my finger on it.
Much love from Wakefield!
I'm enjoying stellar blade at the moment
I’m playing some (old) new games. Picked up copies of StarTropics I and II on the NES, as well as Mega Man X Command Mission for the Gamecube.
I’m sure it was mainly good memories 🫡
If anyone ever wonders how Johnny can have such a great memory, recalling all these specific details from his childhood and reciting niche information about 30+ year old games/anime: it's because of what he discussed in this episode. Framing every experience as a special moment. We've gotta stop mindlessly consuming games/shows/music and just slow down for a second, really appreciate it, and make a memorable moment out of the little things!
That shirt is so sick!
I loved p4 golden on vita ! First saw the animation years ago on anime network vod but the game I put several several SEVERAL hours on my handheld .
I picked up phantom hourglass and spirit tracks, both zelda games I've never played before. Having a great weekend with my DS!
Stellar Blade is absolutely stellar! I have only been playing it since launch. Totally support this game as Johnny said, we need more games like this. Thanks for sharing your gaming update.
I’m also interested but what’s the difficulty like - impossible like Demon Souls or accessible like God of War?
Sold a ton of stuff I haven't used in 5 years or more and bought a emountin bike. Tearing it up this summer
I did the same thing a couple years back except to buy a motorcycle. It kind sucks, but at the same time the bike has brought me joy.
The sound of a needle crackling on vinyl is a core memory by itself for me.
METAMOR JUPITER!!!! Great game.
NiGHTS is my #2 game of all time behind Yoshi’s Island. By far my favorite video game soundtrack ever, have to pick up that vinyl!
I love that your favorites are oddities.
