2023 LTZ LZ0 86,000+ mi, I regen every 200-300 miles. Drive long trips 2-5 hours long every day. 5-6 short trips during sales calls. I get longer distance between regents when I use BP diesel. I also use Hotshots Extreme every fill up.

My 23 At4 just had its 7500 service. Regens have been very frequent (121-143 miles) recently. My dealer sells ALOT of 3.0’s. The diesel service manager said they should get 400-500 per regen. Since I was only scheduled for the 7500 service I would need to schedule for the regen issue. The manager suspected it is caused by a particulate filter sensor or faulty fuel injector. We were in the area for a trip (7hrs from home) that’s why we had Laura GMC do the service. I have a appt with my local dealer on the 20th to look into the issue.

Picked up the truck from the dealer. They had no clue, contacted GM and their techs are working on it. They said they will contact me next week with an update from GM. It can’t be that hard to figure out. If the LM2’s are not having the issues only the LZO, look at the changes and reverse engineer it.

If you have a tuner turned up to a higher level like the banks tuner and you dog on it, your regents will be way more frequent. Turn the tuner to STOCK and I’d bet your problem goes away. This also includes the pedal monster being turned up as well.

2024 Sierra 1500 LZ0, 2750 on the ODO. Banks I dash (beta), Smart Stop/Start, stock otherwise. Changed oil and filter @2200 miles, now running the PPE filter and amsoil 0W20, will probably go back to Mob 1 next oil change. Running on road fuel from a 500 gallon tank, 2 oz of hot shots EDT every fill up (usually less than a 1/4 tank on fill up). Sitting at 49% on DEF per I Dash(truck was full of DEF when it left the lot with 4 miles on the clock). Been running the I Dash since ~450 miles, Longest between regens has been 246 and shortest 184, Typically completes a regen within 12 miles. I have noticed here lately that it will go all the way down to zero on soot load, however, it will pop back up pretty quickly and before you know it will be at 50%. Regen typically shuts off ~30% SL. So I'd say I'm running ~200 miles average on Regen

I use amsoil all in one during the winter and injector clean and cetane boost during the summer. It seams to be determined by how hot the egt/2 numbers are, if they are around 500-600* during in town and 600-700 on highway and 800-900 towing. My numbers have been consistent.

Just as recently as couple weeks ago used to get 300-350 miles before a regen. Now my soot level on idash loads up super fast, regens every 100-150 miles now. However like you said, the regens are fast (10-15 mins). Weird. Wonder if GM did an update or this is just normal cycle for the Lz0. I miss my LM2 used to get 6000 miles out of a def tank!

I'd like add a comment regarding buying a gas V8 vs the LZ0 diesel. . . I currently own 2023 Silverado 1500 with the 3.0l LZ0 diesel with about 7,500 miles. My previous truck was a 2016 RAM 1500 with the 5.7L gas V8, (owed new, driven to 62,000 miles). Driving routes & habits are essential the some on both trucks (i.e. same routes & loads). The 2023 LZ0 diesel averaged 22-25 city and 24-32 hwy. The 2016 RAM V8 gas averaged 14-17 city and 18- 23 hwy. Both trucks was (and is) had minor software updates and was relatively trouble free. I've used 1.3 tanks of DEF in 7,500 miles and have not paid much attention to DPF regen., (Chevy engineers made this a none factor for me). Changed engine oil at 730mi, 4,025mi & 7,054mi (due to new engine). Never more then half-quart low at oil change. I'm completely stock on both trucks and carry loads occasionally, i prefer the LZ0 diesel.

I noticed My 21 3500 doing a weird thing where before completing a long highway drive and getting home I would do a mobile regen, then park the truck. I know the last time this happened I parked the truck at 8% soot level in the dpf. The next morning I remote started my bone stock truck and when I came out to leave in 10 minutes of warmup time the dpf shot up to 45% from 8. I’d drive the truck a bit and it would drop a bit and level out around say 30% for the day. I had noticed this occurring at random over the past 5 or 6 months but figured it was due to the extreme cold temps but now it’s doing it when it’s warm out.
Well after my 3rd DEF tank melt down in as many years almost leaving me stranded on the highway I made the decision to go ahead with the delete (It’s legal in my province).
Shortly after I noticed at startup the truck would randomly smoke blue rather excessively.
I doubt it’s related to the turbo rings or valves since it is random and stops immediately when I start driving.
This leads me to believe it could be having injector issues. Possibly sticking open and leaking slightly. The dealership said all the injectors are operating within spec. The balance rates are all near 0.0 with the highest being 4 and 6 which hovers around 0.4-0.9. Their spec is +/- 4.0. So I checked my TMAP and it was a solid chunk of carbon soot. I replaced that and just ran a bottle of power service diesel injector cleaner through the truck. So far the rough idle is gone, balance rates seem marginally better than they were before, but that startup smoke is too random so I’ll have to give it some time to see if that resolves.
I should add that the startup smoking thing happens at random whether the truck is cold or warm. Basically if you start the truck and idle it for a few minutes it may or may not blow blue smoke. More often not. I have also never used additives before, I have about 70k miles on the truck now.
So with all that in mind, unless a guy had something that can monitor the soot levels they would never know this was occurring, and leading the truck to do far more regens than normal. The TMAP can potentially cause the engine to smoke depending on what the ecu decides to do when the sensor readings are erratic, on an emissions compliant truck this could easily lead to more regen cycles.
I’ve also been monitoring the vgt vane position and it isn’t jumping around, lift pump rates are normal, FRP is good, oil pressure and temp is all good. So I’ll see what happens over the next couple weeks.

Like others have already said, the airbox would be my first thought.
You brought up a good point about winterized fuel, though. Starting in October when the stations in my area (southeast, I prefer Love's because of the Open Roads fleet discount) switch over to their winter blend, my truck started having a faint knock during low-speed acceleration. No CEL, no codes on a scanner, and only a faint drop in power on acceleration. Both the noise and power drop went away after about 4th or 5th gear and 45 mph.
All problems stopped about two weeks ago at my last fill up. Coincidence or not, but that lines up perfectly with the time frame Love's has on their website discussing their pre-additized winter fuel program. I believe Exxon and Shell add cold flow agents into theirs as well.

This was a few years ago so I can’t say if it is still happening today but the Ram guys who would run the S&B on their Cummins would also get more frequent regens. Often every 80-100 miles. Renewable diesel is most fuel stations here in Northern California. Most likley up and down California. The process is different than biodiesel. The cetane is super high, 70+ cetane. Pumps stickers has 80%-95% renewable and the rest % is bio or regular mix. Smellslike diesel, but not the strong odor. I’ve been using it on my ‘22 Ram Cummins since new. Once the cold dry winter air got here, I got 500-600+ between regens all winter long. Now that its springtime and warming back up, my truck currently has 290 miles on this cycle and is at 90% dpf soot load. For some reason these 3.0's hate the hot humid air of summer time and so therefore have a really short distance between regens in the heat and humidity. And my truck is all stock currently with 4800 miles on it. Also, I have used Hot Shots fuel additives since i first got it home from the dealer and I get my fuel from a local co-op that sells a premium diesel fuel that's comparable to top tier diesel fuel.

Alright here’s some data. I designed my own custom intake. It flows 494cfm while the stock box with a k/n filter flows 450cfm as tested. The increase in CFM with the high flow intake changes the AF mixture a LOT. Enough to reduce power. In fact the ECM is overly richening the mixture and reducing boost via closing the vane position. These ECMs punish us for mods. Anyways, with my custom intake I’m regening every 65 miles. Going to go back to stock and test again and will get more data. -LZ0 with 5000 miles

My truck regens pretty frequently, I’d say probably about the same. 2-3 regens per tank. I do a lot of highway driving maybe about 8,000 miles a month and lots of idling. I notice it goes into regen for about 10 minutes and then stops if I’m just idling. I think these trucks don’t actually regen unless it’s driving so it just attempts to regen and I assume once I get back on the highway it starts to regen properly. I almost always get a check engine light for the nox sensor when I’m only doing city driving but once I get out on the highway the light goes away. The truck has been like that since new. I did recently install s&b airbox and ppe resonator delete but it’s been doing that long before I installed them.

Mine’s fully modified minus the S&B. (Stillen, K&N filter, carbonzilla, ppe charge air cooler) I’ve been averaging about 330 miles per regen but it recently dropped to 240. I’m not sure if the non winterized fuel is having that effect. I think that overall I’ve seen shorter regen cycle based on how I drive. I’m very light on the accelerator and I coast a lot. I feel like this lighter style of driving, which keeps my egt lower, is a big cause of my short cycle. I’m hoping the catch can will help alleviate that a bit, but I’m still waiting on mine.

23 LZO AT4. Are you running B20 or regular diesel #2? My truck regens too much on bio diesel so I stick to my local chevron station that has regular #2 diesel and fuel filter stays clean. Regens about once per tank and lasts about 15 miles. Regen stops at 30% always then goes down to 1% and slowly climb if I keep driving. It will climb fast for me after starting it cold and ive gone up 25-30% on a 30 minute hwy drive before, but sometimes it will only go up a couple percents on the same drive from cold. Recently I took a 4 hour trip to sand mountain and the truck seemed to love hill climbs. I left home at 60% dpf and at the top of the tahoe mountains it had gotten really hot during the climb and burned itself down to 55% 2 hours into the drive. Barely used any def on that trip. Regened on the way home and climbed up fast to 50%. It's very random.

    She seems to run hot!
I wonder if the truck uses DEF during non-regens while in tow mode. Odd that the DPF was working downward as we pulled. Overall, like the truck. It has a bunch of annoyances though. I am thinking they could reset the stored settings and let it "relearn". MPG, DEF, so much all over the place. Add the random, "clean parking sensor" warning for a rear sensor, front camera warning about cleaning that abruptly turned off cruise control and then all of a sudden came back to working normally on to two TPMS sensors that would just randomly "disappear" while driving. Also, the "Gain settings were not recovered due to an error" at start up that happened most of the time.

Are you loving the LZ0 because you just want to love a diesel or is it really worth it when you look at the big picture? It would be great to see a vlog on your views “is it worth it” after your investments and having owned this truck for some months…… kind of “looking back, would I do it again” episode. I've had my '24 AT4 since the first of February and bought an iDash shortly after. I have logged my regen's since plugging in the iDash:
    Regen start 625 miles (2/24/24)
    Regen start 785 miles (2/29/24) (160)
    Regen start 935 miles (3/4/24) (150)
    Regen start 1117 miles (3/12/24) (182)
    Regen start 1240 miles (3/13/24) (123)
    Regen start 1476 miles (3/19/24) (236)
    Regen start 1634 miles (4/2/24) (158)
    Regen start 1803 miles (4/5/24) (169)
    Regen start 1967 miles (4/8/24) (164)
    Regen start 2198 miles (4/12/24) (231)
    Regen start 2332 miles (4/17/24) (134)
    Regen start 2576 miles (4/29/24) (244)
The number on the right is the miles between regen. Averaging about 177 miles. Duration takes approx. 10min from activation to completion (about 13 highway miles). Fuel economy is averaging right at 27mpg with mixed driving (low as 25mpg & high as 31mpg). Even during regen's, fuel economy is still 22-24mpg, but I am light on the pedal. I'm trusting that this is all normal GM programming... If you learn anything about the programming parameters or updates, please let us know.

Thanks for sharing data. Does all of the regens use more DEF?

    • @nathanstamper3348
      @nathanstamper3348 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@chadclark5204 My understanding is that DEF usage is largely based off of fuel usage as a ratio. That ration may not be linear, but that's my best way to describe it. My experience so far with regen's has proven that the fuel penalty during a regen is very minor. The regen process is short (10 minutes) and my mpg's only drop 2-3 for that very short duration. With that, the DEF consumption due to a more frequent regen cycle is not even practically measurable. I have 2700 miles on my truck so far and have only used about a 1/4 tank of DEF. I've been light on the pedal and have not towed anything while I get some mileage on the new engine. Changed the oil at 800 miles and added the iDash. I run a maintenance amount of Power Services Diesel Kleen fuel additive to simply keep things clean and lubricated and it gives my OCD brain some peace. So far, I am very pleased with this 3.0 and 10spd drivetrain.

many have reported the same regen amounts, I just started. I agree that would be the assumption and the catch can I installed will help see what I am consuming as far as oil goes. I am leaning towards it being related to the intake.
