    Yes do the frequency tuning video I think it will help alot of people out. I have had to do it a couple of times on new non brand and brand FrSky receivers for the Tx16s. Numbers either side of zero don't seem to be uncommon. Either put it on a number line or enter the negatives in a calculator. It's easy enough, I think the biggest problem is finding the edge and approaching it slowly to get consistent numbers. It's great that someone gave you the heads up on the D8.

      Hi Greg!
      Yes, this is the 1st time I've had to do Freq. Tuning and I was surprised at how easy it was.
      I wonder if there's a script out there somewhere so it would be automated ;-)

      The latest post states they've changed the board on this plane an no one knows the protocol and apparently Arrows will not provide that information.
      It looks like the latest one will only bind with the stock transmitter.
      The stock transmitter is very good but I would rather bind to my TX16S.

  • @sacmiata
    @sacmiata ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The latest version that they are selling has a newer board and it doesn’t appear to bind anymore to the 4 in 1 transmitters.
    RCGroups forum on the plane has more information on this change.

      @GroundControlRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Brian!
      I had heard that some where having an issue binding to Multi-Protocol Transmitters.
      I wasn't sure if they had just shipped the wrong version, perhaps the EU version, or if they had completely changed the RX.
      I've had mine for quite some time, however, these manufacturers seem to enjoy playing musical chairs with protocols.
      One of these days they may realize having a plane that binds to a better transmitter will actually sell more units ;-)
      We can only hope.

    Are you able to do a video showing how you set up this transmitter with the plane.
    I can't get mine to bind but I am new to this transmitter so it's probably something I'm missing whilst creating the plane

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Stewart!
      Mine was already setup an pre-bound so I didn't have to do anything other than power it up.
      Here is a link to the online manual.
      www.hobbyzone.com/rc-airplanes/trainers/rtf/AH014R.html
      If you look at page 9 it shows where the (2) bind buttons are on the transmitter.
      It should have been pre-bound to the TX but sometimes they mess up ;-)
      If you power up the TX and the Plane and then hold down both of those Buttons it should bind unless there is an issue with the Receiver or Transmitter.
      Also, make sure you're several feet away from the Plane as sometimes the Transmitter signal can over power the Receiver.
      I hope that helps.

    Hi Tony, NewBie here.. been looking at the Pioneer, however out of stock.. considering some BNF options in Arrows and or Hobbyzone-Spektrum .. being budget limited, looking at the RadioMaster TX12 MKII.. my question for you is ELRS vs 4in1..for these types of airplanes..not into drones etc..not sure which I would need.. thanks, and appreciate the videos.. learning a lot..

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I noticed it was out of stock again the other day.
      Seems they are selling a lot of them ;-)
      One note on the Pioneer, it's my understanding they have changed the board on that plane and the new board will not bind up with a Multi-Protocol Transmitter.
      I sent an email to Arrows/Hobby Zone a few weeks ago to get information on the new protocol and I never received a response.
      I also know of someone else who emailed them for this information and never received a response.
      It seems their support is really lacking so be aware of that.
      Having said that, the TX that comes with the Pioneer RTF is the best RTF Transmitter I've used.
      I would say it's an entry level Hobby-Grade TX.
      I've never used ELRS and from what I understand it's geared more toward long range flight.
      I like to fly close proximity performing aerobatics so long range doesn't appeal to me.
      I know you need the 4-in-1 Module to be able to bind to all these other planes as that's where all the additional protocols come from.
      If the TX12, as not familiar with any other Transmitters other than the TX16S, has a Module Port you can add just about anything you want with an external Module and that's one of the great things about these Modular Transmitters.
      I hope that helps and I'll see you in the Air!

      Tony, I have a follow up question for you..
      my preference would be the Arrows Pioneer 620-howwever Hobbyzone stated it may not be in stock until October, so, out of the XK A160 J3 Skylark Cub 3D/6G 650mm (closer spec to the Pioneer like size/brushless) or the Volantex Sport Cub 500 RTF (a lesser $ option)..which would you recommend for a park flyer newbie or are they 6 of one half dozen the other...I've viewed your older reviews on both but can't ascertain one better than the other, possibly the Cub being a little squirrely and the Volantex is a bit smaller and lighter and brushed if that makes any real difference at this level...looking for something that will fly slow in a park to learn on and be fun once I learn..ultimately would like a scale PT-17 Stearman as my late father in law owned one.. thanks again.

      @@AzPauly Hi Paul!
      I do not recommend the J3 Cub.
      It took a lot of work to get that one flying decent so I would stay away from that one.
      The Sport Cub 500 is still one I would recommend for a beginner.
      It has a brushed motor and gearbox but it's a very good plane, very durable, the gyro is rock solid, and it has a huge fun factor.
      Good for flying in parks.

TH-cam is a great resource of info, obviously, but is a bit overwhelmed with endless "once and done" reviews by channel "shills" that LOVE everything, and whose primary goal appears to be to sell product for affiliate commissions, and to keep the new review products flowing from the manufacturers. I mean, I get it. Folks are trying to make a buck from TH-cam, and to be profitable, they need the support of Horizon, et al. Even still, I REALLY appreciate your MUCH more in depth videos and in depth descriptions, mods, etc. This plane is one that I have a lot of interest in as a small "park flyer model", so have enjoyed your series on it. I was unaware of the transmitter swap possibility with it until this video, so I would like to see more details on the subject. Probably already done, so will look through your channel. Thank you much Michael!
      I don't have a lot of information on the newly reported radio issues with this plane other than what I've heard reported.
      I've heard that they many have shipped some EU Receivers in planes purchased in the US that has caused this issue.
      I unfortunately can't verify any of this information.
      I would email Arrows support before buying to see if you will receive one that has the receiver that can bind with a Multi-Protocol Transmitter.
      If not being able to bind to a Multi-Protocol Transmitter is not an issue for you, I can tell you that his plane has the best RTF Transmitter of any RTF Plane I've flown.
      It's as close to a Hobby-Grade Transmitter as you can get.
      If it was programmable it would be a Hobby-Grade Transmitter IMO.
      This is a fantastic RTF Beginner Plane that I highly recommend and I don't make a penny from the sales.
      That's the advantage of this being a Hobby for me rather than a Business ;-)

And yeah, adaptability is a thing for me. Wanted to get into RC planes 40+ years ago, but the $$$, logistics, and learning presented issues that kept me away. But, later in life, when resources are more readily available, and technology has made it possible to learn "on your own", I reached a point of "now or never!" And, as I've been into the RC car/trail truck/crawler thing for a while, upgrading from "out of the box" is definitely a consideration for me, so being able to upgrade to a quality transmitter, with all of the rates/expo, and programmability features, is a big deal for me. • @GroundControlRC

      Hi David!
      It's needed for some protocols as it's a way to adjust the RF Frequency so you have the best possible signal between the transmitter and receiver.

    Hi!!! It looks like a great airplane!! Sooo…. Arrow Pioneer, or Turbo Timber 700mm??

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Indy!
      Good question, I looked at this one, the Turbo Timber, and the Micro Tundra.
      I wish I could fly all of them ;-)
      I think any of the (3) would be an excellent flying Micro Brushless Bush Plane.
      I believe the Turbo Timber is made of EPS Foam or something similar and so not very durable which is why I didn't choose the Timber.
      The Micro Tundra is mad of EPO Foam which is very durable, not as durable as EPP Foam, but very durable.
      I think this Plane has a slightly better power system over the Tundra and also appeared to have more power in the flight videos I watched of both.
      It's a really tough choice ;-)
      I think it may be a toss up between this one and the Micro Tundra ;-)

    • @Indy64738
      @Indy64738 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GroundControlRC The Micro Tundra is available on HK, 100$, it has flaps, but no gyro and the motor is a tiny 1106 vs a huge 1608 for the Pioneer… I can’t find the size of the motor of the Timber…

    On modes for "arrow" protocol. What are the values for each mode? Ex -100٪ for full off gyro, 100% full stability.

    • @GroundControlRC
      @GroundControlRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question.
      There setup is a bit strange.
      The Manual Mode is always the Center Position on a 3-Position Switch.
      I have the Gyro setup on a 3-Position Switch.
      +100 = Full Gyro Mode
      0 = Full Manual Mode
      -100 = Wind Stabilization

      @@GroundControlRC thanks u i was able to setup the mode switches. I had a hard time with the throttle. For some reason i had to have throttle down -132 to turn off the motor. And the range of -125 to 125 for all for channels. I am using the jumper t8sg running devation software. To me awhile to figure out the throttle. I just need to fly it in the field to test it out. f there was away to caliberate the motors but i would do it. I still need a good video on backing up and flashing the radiomaster tx16s. I am not very good with software, so i am bit afraid of screwing it up.

      @@situbes.972 You are most welcome.
      I think the Gyro locks the ESC / Motor until calibration completes.
      You might try calibrating the Throttle High/Low Position with the Gyro in Manual Mode.
      I think that's how I did it.
      I'm still pretty new to OpenTX.

      @GroundControlRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DIY-Morti That's awesome!
      Should be a very good TX from what I've seen.
      Calibrating the throttle range will be the same for any TX. Throttle at top, wait for 2 beeps, throttle to the bottom, done.
      Calibration of the Gyro is performed every time it is powered up, according to the manual. There is no specified way, in the documentation, to manually calibrate the Gyro.

    Massive thanks to you Tony for taking the time to put this information out to us all, my latest tx16s which is just over 6months old shows frsky d 8 but not frsky d d8 protocol, do you think that a later firmware update is needed or do you think that the fine frequency tuning might help with the setup, thanks again and I'm sorry for the questions but you really have helped me enormously through your channel, regards from Alan 🤗🤗👍👍

      Oh no! Did I mess that up?
      It is Protocol "FrSky D" Sub-Protocol "D8"
      I see what's going on.
      If you select Protocol "FrSky X" Then select Sub-Protocol "D8" the Protocol will change from "FrSky X" to "FrSky D"

    I definitely want to bind this plane to my tx12 I'm so tired of hear that beep every min lol loved watching you fly this plane with the mods you made to the ailerons I love flying this plane but it has no roll the rates are just too low I am getting the timber x soon but I am gonna try to get this plane to roll better I think the fact that it has a bigger motor than most planes this size means alot of that power is going to waste "in my opinion" so getting it to snap better would just make it that much better great review man and your the only one I've seen that has bound this to another radio thanks for the information 👍🏾✌🏾oh and I'm DEFINITELY INTERESTED IN SEEING HOW YOU FREQUENCY TUNED THIS PLANE🤔✌🏾

      Thank you much!
      Yes, the lethargic roll rate on this is the only negative I have regarding this plane.
      I'm going to removed the main wing and reposition the linkage at the servo arm.
      I had someone post they had removed the wing and discovered the linkage at the servo was in the inner most hole so mechanically it has the least amount of movement from the servo linkage.
      If that doesn't do it, I'll replace the single aileron servo with dual servos at the ailerons.
      This plane is just too good a flier and needs a good roll rate ;-)
      It's also awesome with the TX16S and no annoying beeping as you stated.
