Fish Alaska magazine presents How to Fillet Halibut with Captain Rafe Oliphant from Kodiak Legends Lodge. This is an excellent technique resulting in pristine fillets.
Great demo, very professional. So many people I see in Alaska use zero ice and drag their fish in the dirt. I went on a charter one time for silvers. 36 fish in the boat, 75 degrees and sunny, zero ice in the above deck fish box. The meat was basically MUSH. Very disappointing.
Seems like we always end up with a little blood somewhere in the fillets. Is there a trick to getting them to bleed out completely that you could share?
Gf just got one off the pier :) first time fillet was a success thanks to this video 👍🏼
I love eating fish cheeks 😳

@fleedermouse cut the gill plate hang on a sharp hook then spray with a water hose
Epic demonstration on how to cleanly fillet a flatly!
Best I’ve seen on YT👍
