I used to only skate Spitfire when I was younger. I tried Bones STF about 6 or 7 years ago and I won't ride any other wheels anymore. They just don't flatspot and last forever. They do get chewed up on sharp ledges but I don't find it to affect the performance at all. Just my personal opinion.
@@bugglemagnum6213 I actually recently bought some radial slim F4s and one wheel had a defect. I thought it was just a small divit that would roll out after a day or two. It didn't and the wheel started to have big chunks fall off it and it sounded like a flatspot. But I sent them photos and they hooked it up with a new set, a ton of stickers, a tool, bandana, etc. I picked up some of Chad Caruso's Karma wheels to ride while I waited for them to send replacements. But I've got a set that I'll be riding soon. I really like the shape of radial slims better than anything Bones has though. And check out Chad Caruso's channel if you haven't. My all time favorite wheel is by far the Spitfire Conical Full. I get them in 56 because I ride an 8.5 anyway so the extra size doesn't bother me or affect my skating and they last longer. And since the contact patch is so wide on them I can ride over the crustiest ground
I've got Spitfire 101d radials and my girl has 99d radials. In my area we have full concrete skatepark and 101d are perfect for this conditions. They were a little bit slippery in the beggining but after few first hours they were good. The second skatepark has concrete ground and wooden ramps etc. in this case 99d are better than 101d. They are faster on concrete and more ,,hook" on wooden ramp. The 101 sometimes slide on wooden surfaces or dusty concrete. In my opinion Spitfire 101d makes skateboarding more challenging than 99d. P.S I bought 101d because of your review , so thank you Ben :)
Man, I wish I knew all this before. I bought very hard wheels when I set up my new skate and now I can only ride smooth surfaces. On the other hand, I rarely get to ride rough paths thought, I usually hop on my bike, get my board attached to my backpack and ride all the way down to my skate spot. Great video man, greetings from Brazil!!!

4:02 is exactly the question I had. I've been skating flatground on an asphalt parking lot that's decent but still a bit rough. I think I'll try some conicals soon. Thanks Ben!
Formula fours are way better than the classics. You can powerslide and revert all day with those and you won't flat spot them. I have a set of classic Spitfire wheels that flat spotted the first session so I put them on my lathe fix them. They are the 56mm firefights. I switched to 57mm formula four radial fulls and they're faster plus I don't have to worry about flat spots.
Skating in transition I do notice an extra gear of speed with Bones. I have F4 99 and 101s, and both STF and SPF. Speed is in that order. I have two sets of F4 99s (53 and 56) that sit in the garage because I don't feel fast with them. F4 101s are almost as fast as STFs, but feel smoother and quieter. STF are faster and have a very distinct breaking point. SPF are super fast, but don't slide well and are a bit more likely to flat spot. Still the one to go to in big bowls.
Tim Jones how would you describe the powerslide of SPFs? For me: Spits 99a Classics slide like drifting. The sliding is progressive. They slide in a carve motion. STFs grip a lot and don’t give out at first. Then they slide straight, like ice. They don’t drift but instead slide like ice on the ground. In a straight line. Haven’t skated F4s. I have to buy them overseas.

Used to skate bones v3 before skating spitfire f4's 101s. Bones stf (with a narrow contact patch) became a little sketchy and unpredictable skating an extremely smooth park when carving around transition, randomly powersliding in a middle of a carve. The spits are a just a tad grippier and very forgiving in skateparks.
Ive always liked f4s, ive had 101a 55mm lockins and 99a 54mm conical fulls. They always just seem faster on rough ground, a better slide in my opinion, and overall i like the marketing and stuff
Tried out Bones stf V3. The shape is awesome, compact and locks in great, the white color is great but honestly, Bones are just too hard. Rolling around in the city streets is just insanely loud and the vibration is really uncomfortable. If you're not riding a really smooth park stf absolute no from me. The spitfire conical 99a are where it's at for me. A little smoother, still with slide. If Spitfire made a white 99a in V3 shape, would be my wheel forever!!!
Mephisto Steiner I agree. Bones will rattle the teeth right out of your skull. Super fast wheels on super smooth surfaces, though. I like the 99 Formula 4s better. Even on smooth surfaces, I find they are more forgiving
I’ve had a lot of good luck with Wayward wheels, I had a pair of conical shaped and a skinny 50mm set of Mike Carroll models and they lasted a long time and I love to powerslide and they kept the clean white color for the most part..
Bones just dropped some STF's 99a - they're not out yet to the public, but they've been testing them out with the team and more for quite a while now and started sending them out to TH-camrs to review - these could be it :)
The Bones STF 99a " EasyRider" wheels are very comfortable! I used to ride 85a and stepping to the 99a was not nearly as rough as I thought it would be compared to some of the absolute rocks that were around in the 2000's.
I’ve been having some really good sessions lately on OJ wheels. I dig the way they feel in 99a and 101a. Three good shapes to choose from and they stay white. Only downside I could mention is that the tend to offer mostly larger diameter wheels. I found some 101a 52 mm ez edge from concentrates that are very juicy. Also, 99a 53 mm hardline from concentrates are quite nice. Their budget offerings are surprising. I haven’t tried the elite formula yet but the from concentrate and insane a thane formulas are definitely the real deal. Thank you Ben for all the great info!
@@bakedbeings I'll try em out when my park wheels finally shit the bed. Though I'm done for the season. Snow till April and 40 minute drive to nearest park.
I second this. They Really smooth out those rough roads. Still powerslide and trick well. And they still feel nice on park cement or masonite. Slimeballs are legit.
Idk why but I’ve just been skating the ricta slix for over a year now. Just got so used to them. And to me it’s a great wheel. It does flat spot some but the slick core insert they use on the inside does seem to help with slides on certain obstacles
One thing I heard from a friend of mine who worked at a skate shop is that urethane never truly stops hardening so those little yellow wheels that have been in the sun 6 months are harder now than they have been in the past not sure if it's true or not that's why I'm throwing it out there
I started back skating at 43 and streets are pretty crappy around here. I have a garage full of wheels as I have been trying a ton of them. I skated 90a. Smooth but my pop was all but gone. Tried some Ricta 92a. Nice ride but grippy if you land crooked. Spitfire 99a, I liked them but jarring on rough ground. Slime ball mini vomit 97a, great compromise but kind of wide on ledges. Riding Bones STF 83b, pretty good so far, actually less jarring than spits on harsh ground surprisingly as they are harder. It’s an expensive experiment but like Ben pointed out your skate surface will dictate how your wheels perform. They all seem to have pros and cons. I definitely notice my pop falls off the softer wheels. My compromise was to buy a cruiser with soft wheels just to ride and another board to skate.
Have you ever tried Autobahn? The dual duro has been my favorite wheel for about 10 years. I highly recommend giving them a push if you haven't before.
I tried one set of autobahn , v3 like shape. Super lock on grind but weird feeling when im rolling i feel slow with them but i think the wheels was old because i got them really cheap at the skateshop.
I've always rode spitfires or pigs back in the day, but a wheel that stays whiter longer is appealing. I don't skate ground that isn't smooth anymore, so maybe Bones' would be good for me.
I have to agree the Spitfire Formula Four Conical Full 99a 52mm is the best all around wheel out there. Now that we’ve confirmed that, your thoughts on best Bearings?
I’ve been riding bones for my 14 years of skating. Haven’t skated a better wheel no matter how many times I revert/power slide, they stay smooth and white to my liking.
I've skated for 24 years now and I think it's fair to say I've seen some wheels in my time. Bones are excellent wheels for parks, but Spitfire F4 99's are pretty untouchable all arounders. I'd give some other brands a try, if only for the novelty. Love 78a OJ's on trails, for instance. Go wild, ripper.
@@thepancakemann what’s crazy is, I had finally switched to spitfire a month later after I posted this. Such a great wheel. My favorite thing is the shape of the Spitfire OG’s. I’ll check out the OJ’s, thank you
I've skated Spitfires my whole life and I love them, but my last set of wheels I switched it up and got a set of acid and honestly I'm sold. They're my favorite urethane I've ever skated and they last longer than any wheels I've ever skated. Plus they make this great 'crack' sound when you land
I just started skating at 35 and love your channel... Keep rocking, what do you recommend for transition skating and bowls as far as wheel size and durometer.... Cheers 🇨🇦
Depends but just pulling out a number maybe 55mm spitfire conical full 99a formula four. Go up if you only want to skate tranny. Go down if you might want to get tech.
Love my spitties, 52mm F4 101's, really slippy and the radial shape i'm using has plenty of contact patch for shitty road in my area. I ride a super low setup too cause i'm in my 40's and it's nicer on my legs. So the slippy aspect is good as i get a bit of wheel bite sometimes. I can't do grinds yet but I'm sure they would be good for nose and tail slides etc.
Please do an OJ wheel review! I just got some OJ Elites recently and they are my favorite wheels I've ever used. Used to be a spitfire guy but tried these out on a whim and I'm loving it.
I'm really interested in oj I had normal (really bad), insanethane (really fast but won't slide at all). I'm currently skating f4s and they slip too much and they're slow as hell, for my next wheels I want to try oj elites Hardline. How are them? Do they slide a little? Are them still fast?
@@usafan96soren20 i have the OJ elites hardline shape and they are very nice, the shape is very similar to spitfire conical. They grip well onto even the smoother skatepark surfaces but will still slide nicely when you want them to. ive just started learning frontside rock and rolls and they make the sickest squeal sound when im turning back into the ramp. still very fast and ive done tons of slides, not a single flat spot.
I got bones V3, 99 wheels, but they feel way to skinny and to soft. Im super excited, to try out the V1 wheels that are 103 hard!! All reviews are amazing!! Really helps finding and trying out new things!!
How many full complete setups do you have Ben? I feel like I have a skateboard and accessories fetish, can’t stop buying stuff. But then I see you and I feel like I’m not as bad as I thought lol. Love your vids, keep it up.
I‘m totally with you. I had a lot of STFs before my 99a conicals and even tho they are so wide they still slide much better than the Bones wheels. I‘m not going back.
So I was on 56mn full conical spits but wheel height and the riser created a lot of ghost pop. I switched to Bones 52mm V3 and lots of things started to work... everything but coping and hang-ups. Now I'm back to spits but 52s.. so happy.
I skated spits f1 years ago. They were hard to track down at local skat shops and I went for some big 55mm “street burners”. Loved them and skated a bigger wheel since . I skate smooth concrete park mostly. SPF have been an awesome wheel. Super hard and smooth but grips very well. Thinking about switching to spitfire 99d. Switched to some primitives I got in one of their boxes and I’m not feeling them.
Looking a into the 99a conical. I need a wider wheel for comfort. I’ve never rode 52mm not much of a technical guy, but maybe my wheels have been too large and heavy.
I know it's an old video, but i have a set of brand new Spitfire 48mm wheels, yes they are pretty yellow now. lol but do you know if these where a typical wheel that flatspot easy? I have just tryed them once in my garage floor and they feelt pretty good. Currently running Slimeballs 97a's 56mm right now. a bit to big and soft for grinding i feel. Was thinking to run the 48mm in concrete parks. thanks anyway. Oh, btw, im waiting for new Autobahns 52mm 100a's , those im exited to try out.
*** Regarding the duro *** The Bones are marketed as 83b and to "help" people they translate this into 103a which is actually incorrect. This link for explains the a and b scales : 2.bp.blogspot.com/_an3lNEHhIeY/TCnpJlG0KaI/AAAAAAAAAN8/nGbLIoO1-gM/s1600/chart1.jpg So 83b is about 97a. I have skated Bones STF and Spit 99 FF and yes the 99' are harder and slide better don't wear as fast as STF when you power slide on rough asphalt. Without getting into the details, you can't measure precisely duro greater than 90 on any scale. Instead, you should switch to the next harder scale. But that would confuse the buyers. Also you can't physically measure greater than 100. Thanks for reading :)
I've been really happy with the spitfire conicals Ive been skating the last several weeks. I'm going to try OJ conicals to see how they compare, but I've always been partial to spitfire
No nock on Spitfire but I have always liked Bones wheels going back to the RAT BONES lol I had some Spitfire wheels before and FOR ME something just didn't feel right. But in the end there's no right or wrong answer. It all depends on the SK8R
My thing with spitfires, I love them, though they don't flatspot, they do get progressively smaller the longer you have them, but this is probably because I've had mine for over 9 months, and I do a lot of slide tricks
55mm spitfire f4 conicals 101a in cold temps and dry humidity, 55mm spitfire lockins 99a in hot weather or wet humidity. Always on standard Indys for the 56mm clearance. Bones SPF or 99a spitfire classics on wooden (banana-skin) mini-ramps and bowls
Interesting View Point ! I live on top of a hill with really rough ground and love to powerslide. Spitfires would always chip for me and become mini wheels the quickest. Bones always out lasted them and rarely would flatspot spitfires flat spot after a few weeks for me but maybe thats because i powerslide so much
Thanks for the review Ben. I’ve never skated bones before n will stick with the f4 conicals I’ve had the last 6-8 months. I did recently get a pair of Ricta Rapido 99a rounds as I love the clouds on my cruiser. Rained for the last two weeks here in Iowa, so I’ve got maybe 5 min on them so far.
what size trucks are your favourite and what size board do you prefer im having weird issues with finding the right board size im 6'1 btw i started with 8" feels to small got a 8.5 to big ( for flipping i like it for cruizing and possibly bowl stuff) 8.25 to small aswell but better then 8"
I think we knew you would like the Spitfire more. I am a bones guy. Right now I have the bones lock in full conical on my everyday board. I normally skate 54 or 56. My transition board has 64mm GBones on it. That is what I grew up on. I would like to try Force wheels.

Pussies
Mephisto Steiner what kind of “street” wheel is slow and super rattly on ashphalt?
I’ve had a lot of good luck with Wayward wheels, I had a pair of conical shaped and a skinny 50mm set of Mike Carroll models and they lasted a long time and I love to powerslide and they kept the clean white color for the most part..
Bones just dropped some STF's 99a - they're not out yet to the public, but they've been testing them out with the team and more for quite a while now and started sending them out to TH-camrs to review - these could be it :)
i wish Bones didn't stop the DTF series. they were great. I'm riding F4's now and love them.
Try out 52mm 87a keyframe shape in ojs. Great if you live in crust, greetings from the future.
The elite 99As are beast on a transitiony, smooth park
@@bakedbeings I'll try em out when my park wheels finally shit the bed. Though I'm done for the season. Snow till April and 40 minute drive to nearest park.
@@cv6531 condolences 💐
Spitfires only for me.. But that's just me.
The 97a F4 Classic Spits slide fantastically!
Santa Cruz Slimeballs, 97a , 54mm. The best for "ashphalt" and concrete :)
I second this. They Really smooth out those rough roads. Still powerslide and trick well. And they still feel nice on park cement or masonite. Slimeballs are legit.
Durability?
@@danielnanez503 not as long as bones or spits but they are on par with ojs
Idk why but I’ve just been skating the ricta slix for over a year now. Just got so used to them. And to me it’s a great wheel. It does flat spot some but the slick core insert they use on the inside does seem to help with slides on certain obstacles
I happen to have the most insane wheels in my garage! SSradials 68mm w metal core
from 1989 or something. They are crazy!!!
68? dude, thats bigger than what little kids ride!
TH-cam needs a spitfire formula four radial slim wheel review. Thanks!
It has one because I made one:)
7:14 tha hardflip! 👏💕
I love how he calls asphalt ashphalt
Now i wanna get some formula fours. That slide looked way fun and sounded great
Switch hardflip was dope
I've always ridden Spitfires formula 4 53 very good 4 tech tricks on a 7.75. Trying out Bones 53 party pack today.
Review a Real Ishod Twintail Deck! I'm curious of your opinion on symmetrical decks.
This is the one I’ve been waiting for. Thanks Ben!
You sounded so professional I'm not sure if it's pronounced asphalt or if I've just been pronouncing ashfault wrong my whole life..
One thing I heard from a friend of mine who worked at a skate shop is that urethane never truly stops hardening so those little yellow wheels that have been in the sun 6 months are harder now than they have been in the past not sure if it's true or not that's why I'm throwing it out there
try 4 years lol
Super lock on grind but weird feeling when im rolling i feel slow with them but i think the wheels was old because i got them really cheap at the skateshop.
tried the dual duro and it they felt like shit. Too hard and still slow at the same time it's hard to explain
@@skankwave5245 weird because I've found them to be soft and fast. I wouldn't recommend them for park skating, I do my skating in the streets yo. Lol
yea everyone has their own taste, good that they suit you Imma stick to f4's
I've always rode spitfires or pigs back in the day, but a wheel that stays whiter longer is appealing.
I don't skate ground that isn't smooth anymore, so maybe Bones' would be good for me.
Love your channel, I appreciate that you put out honest, reliable, unbiased information. I would love to hear your opinion on OJ wheels.
I have to agree the Spitfire Formula Four Conical Full 99a 52mm is the best all around wheel out there. Now that we’ve confirmed that, your thoughts on best Bearings?
Just got my first pair of spitfire formula 4's 101a, so far it's my favourite wheel i've ever rode in my 8 years of skateboarding
They don't make park wheels that are 95A anymore. That was my favorite. Very good video.
Likes from Germany
you should do a review of the new bones that came out a while back!
Im intrigued.... are they hard/soft? was thinking of trying them but chickened out, whats better about them compared to say a F4?
Ben, thanks for all the reviews you make, they are very useful!! Greetings from Bogotá - Colombia
Ditto going for 54mm
Spitfire formula four 99a conical is perfection of a wheel, tried all shapes deffs the best alround shape and hardness size is your preference
My old set of Bones STF v2 wheels slide like butter on smooth park or rough asphalt however my new STF v2's (3-5 months old) barely slide.
Please do an OJ wheel review!
I just got some OJ Elites recently and they are my favorite wheels I've ever used. Used to be a spitfire guy but tried these out on a whim and I'm loving it.
They are 99A hardness, 55mm because im a bowl guy. But they stay a really nice white color and I like how smooth they are on all surfaces.
I'm on 101a spitfire tablets, favorite wheels so far 😁
I got bones V3, 99 wheels, but they feel way to skinny and to soft. Im super excited, to try out the V1 wheels that are 103 hard!! All reviews are amazing!! Really helps finding and trying out new things!!
How many full complete setups do you have Ben? I feel like I have a skateboard and accessories fetish, can’t stop buying stuff. But then I see you and I feel like I’m not as bad as I thought lol. Love your vids, keep it up.
About four set up at any time with quite the truck collection to boot.
I had a pair of 99a spitfires and they were just so plastic feeling to me where I got a pair of bones 100s and they feel like butter.
I usually hear that bones feel too plasticky and spitfires feel too glassy. Well I wouldn't know about either cause OJ for life
I‘m totally with you.
Best skate reviews on TH-cam ❤
*** Regarding the duro ***
The Bones are marketed as 83b and to "help" people they translate this into 103a which is actually incorrect. This link for explains the a and b scales :
2.bp.blogspot.com/_an3lNEHhIeY/TCnpJlG0KaI/AAAAAAAAAN8/nGbLIoO1-gM/s1600/chart1.jpg
So 83b is about 97a.
Thanks for reading :)
so the higher duros over 95 are actually measured on the b scale and converted to a for buyer purposes?
the wheels i am riding now are spitfire tablets 52mm f4 101a. I have probably worn them down to 46 or 45 mm
I'm in the process of deciding what to buy for me next setup, and this helped a lot
Spitfire fomula 4 tablets are my go to wheels
My thing with spitfires, I love them, though they don't flatspot, they do get progressively smaller the longer you have them, but this is probably because I've had mine for over 9 months, and I do a lot of slide tricks
55mm spitfire f4 conicals 101a in cold temps and dry humidity, 55mm spitfire lockins 99a in hot weather or wet humidity. Always on standard Indys for the 56mm clearance. Bones SPF or 99a spitfire classics on wooden (banana-skin) mini-ramps and bowls
Just picked up two sets of the Full Conical Formula Four 52mm 99d and a set of the Formula Four Classic 52mm 99d
Interesting View Point ! I live on top of a hill with really rough ground and love to powerslide. Spitfires would always chip for me and become mini wheels the quickest. Bones always out lasted them and rarely would flatspot spitfires flat spot after a few weeks for me but maybe thats because i powerslide so much
Hi which duro wheels and formula exactly u compared? 101a or 99a? Wheel shapes?
Thanks for the review Ben. I’ve never skated bones before n will stick with the f4 conicals I’ve had the last 6-8 months. I did recently get a pair of Ricta Rapido 99a rounds as I love the clouds on my cruiser. Rained for the last two weeks here in Iowa, so I’ve got maybe 5 min on them so far.
what size trucks are your favourite and what size board do you prefer im having weird issues with finding the right board size im 6'1 btw i started with 8" feels to small got a 8.5 to big ( for flipping i like it for cruizing and possibly bowl stuff) 8.25 to small aswell but better then 8"
My spitfires 99 classic have huge chucks out of them from my crooks. However, they feel so good to side on and cruise.
got some 52mm spitfires 10 ago and they are still good, very nice wheels really recommend
I think we knew you would like the Spitfire more. I am a bones guy. Right now I have the bones lock in full conical on my everyday board. I normally skate 54 or 56. My transition board has 64mm GBones on it. That is what I grew up on. I would like to try Force wheels.
Ever tried the Bones 100's OG / SBA Formula? They come in V1, V4 & V5 shapes and sizes 51-55mm. Perhaps they could be your magic wheels...
