    Thanks for advocating to not throw out these beautiful plants! I bought one after Christmas for my elderly neighbor and he loves it so much! He named it Norm and I looked up this video because his is dropping leaves and turning a little brown, I think now it's due to lack of sunlit, and he's also going to get a humidifier for him. Thanks for all the great advice!

    Just wanted to stop and say thank you for this video, my grandmother recently gave me hers because she’s not doing well and I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong turns out not enough light. And thanks to everyone in the comments for all the helpful tips, I didn’t know this tree was tropical and needed humidity. I learned a lot about my little tree here.

    I've had my norfolk pine for nearly 10 years. His name is Stewart and he is our yearly Christmas tree now that he is nearly 5ft tall (from the small coffee can he started in) but he started browning at the tips. Thank you for posting so I can give him adequate care for years to come!

    I bought mine back in 2018 and it's 7 foot tall and more than 4 feet wide from branch tip to branch tip. The only thing I did was: Put it in a pot big enough for room to grow, place it in front of a south-facing window so it can get plenty of sun, close the AC located directly above it, keep any and all dead limbs trimmed off, feed it fertilizer sticks every March and Sept, water it once a week and water it sloppily (The water will evaporate adding to the tree's health), and keep my place of residence at a steady temperature/ humidity-- Not too hot/ cold/ or dry. The only thing is, the poor thing is cramped and has no room to grow. Plenty of room is a must, which is what I don't have and some of the limbs are crooked as a result

I trimmed it and hopefully it makes it because I know it wasn't cheap , it's about 3 feet tall. Giving it lots of love. I do see new growth, thats a good sign that they didn't kill it.

    Norfolk Island Pine is not really a "true pine" tree. Its actually tropical, and loves humidity. The "pine" in the name is a bit of a misnomer.

    I have done everything wrong but my pine still thrives! Isn’t funny how some individual plants handle that? I way over potted mine last time into a way too large container (mainly because my cat walks around it so was trying to make sure it doesn’t get knocked over), it is in a low light situation, my place stays under 20% humidity year round but it still is growing and thriving with growing more branches then it drops!😂

    Lots of the "leaves" are falling off mine - not the branches but sections of the branches. They turned a bit yellow and fell off. Do new leaves/branches grow back or is it going to stay looking a bit sparse? As soon as it gets warmer, I will move it outside. Our apartment is very dry, so it may be that the plant can't survive in here despite daily misting. Thank you

    I have had mine for a few years and it has always been happy yet I never really seems to get any bigger. BUT, what concerns me the most is that it has two main trunks/trees to it and one of them has completely dried out on me and is standing there dead basically. Where can I cut it off to encourage new growth and is the other trunk doomed because if it? Before you answer, know that I have kine near a humidifyer at all times and it gets bright indirect light all day long. HELP!!!

      New growth on the Norfolk happens at the top of the pant. What color is the foliage?

    • @joet6689
      @joet6689 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are two separate trees, so you can cut the dead one out completely. I wouldn't recommend trying to pull the dead roots out since it's very tricky to separate the roots without damaging the live ones. These trees are frequently sold with 2 - 6 individuals in a pot because it makes them look more full. As they age, the roots become tangled to the point that it seems like it's one single tree.
      *Edit: I should also note that the death may have been caused by the other tree strangling the roots. I don't know how common that is, but from what I've seen when attempting to separate these trees, it certainly seems possible. Maybe also check for pests like spider mites. Shine a bright light on the branches and look for anything suspicious. For spider mites, mist the branches first. Otherwise the webbing is very hard to see.

    So I have had my Norfolk Island Pine for 10 years. It’s probably 4 feet tall, I bought it at 6 inches during Christmas time and wanted to maybe have it as a real Christmas tree in the future. But every single year around April it looses branches. And then just stops and grows a lot. I probably have 6 inches of new growth since January 2022. It’s may 2022 but just seeing the branches fall makes me so sad because this plant is spoiled. I found the perfect window, I rotate it every time I water it. I repot it every 3 years with the peat moss and cactus soil combination. And I bought a another little Norfolk Island pine same size and it’s thriving what can I do?!

    Under watering, overwatering, too much light, not enough light… Yeah, obviously it’s one of those, but identifying which one would’ve been helpful.

    Thank you for helping with this plant, however as healthy critique, if you follow back & listen, you repeat things that aren’t even about the actual plant. I.E. “ it’s a beautiful plant, it’s a beautiful houseplant”. Cordial is very nice, however getting to the points are not as time consuming. I stopped video before half way. Please take as not being unkind, but to be helpful. 🪴
