i see, its a "remake" of the first "Endless" game.
Bit of drama happened with that title. The game is kinda old, like 10+ and was the style was 8bit, pretty cute game, fun to play with friends. Then SEGA got their grubby mits on the IP, ported it to PS3 and added add rolls that crashed the game, then just fucking left. making the PC and PS3 port legitimately unplayable due to constant crashing. kinda a big oof.

its the Series of the IP. every Title has the "Endless" in its Name. Endless Space and Endless Legend are both 4x Games like Civilisation/Stellaris. The Original Dungeon of the Endless was a realy good and realy hard 8bit indirekt Dungeon Crawler. Pretty like this one.

Kinda don't like the game so far. Room placement often puts you in untenable positions, most abilities are flat percentage upgrades, some abilities boost fighting in the same room which is usually bad, wit is now useless because it requires active use when usually you want those characters chilling in a room by themselves with a bunch of turrets while you fight elsewhere with less support.
    The first game was better.
    Both aren't spectacular

yea i think this game was 100% designed with multiplayer in mind, especially the wit thing that you mentioned, i want to play it so that i have a character in each choke point where there's a spawner with a few turrets to support them, and what i'm finding is that your turrets get run over and the enemies ignore your AI allies, so a lot of the time the enemies are just walking right past my defenses and killing me unless i'm actively switching between all 3. i wont speak too much on the room placement stuff because its early and it might just be skill issue

@Voyix Just too many things to defend, especially if you try to research. I've had research placed on the opposite side of a spawner from my gens so I essentially had to pick research or gens. Yes, could be a skill issue but I've made a dozen or so runs and it is very frequent that I'm defending research and one or two aliens fly past my defenses so I have to chase for a moment to save my crystal and the research is destroyed in seconds.
Also had rooms where flyers bypass all the defenses due to awkwardly placed holes. Looking back it would've cost me a dust and like 20 industry to fix the issue.

@hollyindus After playing more it seems different enemies target different things. Bugs will rush gens/science. Robots have an artillery that will wreck your turrets. The blobs will hit you with distant aoe that can kill your stronger heroes if you aren't paying attention.

Is there a story behind the titles? "Endless Dungeon" and "Dungeon of the Endless" both seem very generic and lazy. Plus the fact that someone on the team said "hm, I really don't know what the name of our second game should be", And someone else literally said " Got you fam, what if we switched the two words up?" That seems especially lazy.

It's to make the game line up with their wider naming paradigm

If i remember right, all the endless games take place in the same universe

Devs other games include "Endless Legend" and "Endless Space" they all share the same universe and lore I believe? They're all great games, even if the name is a little generic.

    • @Voyix
      @Voyix  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

yea they're all set in the endless universe, which idk if this game connects to like, endless legend in anyway or if it's just a branding thing. i kinda wish they had just called this one dungeon of the endless 2, but i think that all the other games line up in this way - endless dungeon, endless legend, endless space, endless space 2, etc, so they probably just wanted to make it uniform.

@Voyix They are all in the same universe.
The Lore of the universe is that a galaxy-spanning race, known only as 'The Endless', used to have a stranglehold of the Galaxy millenia ago. They created incredible technologies, including the semi-smart, replicating nanobots know as Dust.
The race became so advanced that some of them developed a way to digitise themselves. There was a power struggle between those of the Endless who wanted to remain living in their normal bodies, and those that wanted to become Virtual Endless. Thus started the war of the Endless vs the Virtual Endless.
They ended up wiping one another out, and so the rest of the Galaxy remains with old relics remaining from the war, including Dust.
Endless Space is, chronologically, the first game we see in the universe. In that game, various factions fight to control parts of the Galaxy. Then, in Dungeon of the Endless, a ship crash lands on the planet Auriga, and those on board need to venture into the dungeons for survival.
Endless Legend takes place next, after a few 100, or even 1000 years. Enough time for different cultures to form in the dungeons (Mezari/Vaulter, Ardent Mages, and Mycara all stem from those who crashed), as well as different races already on the planet. Auriga is slowly dying, becoming a frozen planet.
In Endless Space 2 we learn that only the Vaulters made it off Auriga. Galaxy-based conquest is still ongoing.
That brings us to Endless Dungeon.
