How to Reel in a Fish for Beginners

  • In this tutorial I show you how to properly reel in a fish for beginners, using fundamental pointers while also disclosing some advanced fishing tips. The main tip that I can give when reeling in a fish is to make sure you are utilizing your rod as a lever, pull back on the rod releasing tension on the reel and be sure to reel in the slack as you pull. Hold you rod at a 45 degree angle, apply pressure to pull back and as you go down with the rod to pump reel in the slack, continue these steps until you have retrieved all of the line.

    Thank you for this, it's amazing how many "fishing for beginners" videos just don't mention reeling in at all. Probably because it's just second nature to most anglers, but I'm just starting out so I know absolutely nothing. Thank you again.

    Hey Josh: I call it the 4F: Four Fingers in Front and using Forearm for leverage: works perfectly on spinning rods that have the generous amount of cork in front and the tab for the hook has to be out the way too. (the one you used is exactly what I find most comfortable).

    Does this apply to small fish in ponds/ creeks? There aren't big fish in the places I go to and they don't put up much of a fight. I'll usually keep my rod upright, give a tug upwards if i feel a bite and start reeling. This seems to work for me, but was looking for proper technique.
    Any help would be appreciated.

In the end i had to give it so much pressure that i just couldnt turn my mill anymore because it was just to hard and strong. In the end i lost my bate. What did i do wrong?

    I’m confused on when to to let the fish “run”. I see videos of people fishing wacky rigged sinko worms and when the fish hits they set the hook immediately and reel it in.

    • @Saltyscales
      @Saltyscales  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is typical with bass fishing. However when you hook something with weight, especially greater weight than your line is rated for, you should use the rod and reel to tire the fish.
