Just discovered this song. I play it at least ten times everyday. I know what you’re sayin sister. I love you. This song inspires me. It fires me up. We are still more than ever living in the wasteland. We have to fight for equality and freedom. We should not stay silent. This is the song of revolution. Mired in prehistoric conventions with an ancient constitution to go with it, we need to hoist ourselves up by our britches and move forward to a kind and benevolent society where respect for everyone is not optional. I’m dancing with you!
Wow! I've just discovered this. That is one hell of a powerful lyric. Why hasn't this had a billion views? A true take on the times we are living in. This should be a number 1 hit across the world.
Okay. Okay. I see you. I feel you. I proclaim this song or be my most favourite song of all time. And Iris is the Queen of all music. This song is making me crazy. Love it. Love it. Love it! Dam!
True. So very True. One of Americas greatest songwriters. Have loved her forever. Shes one strong, brave spirit to write such a hard hitting and so very relevant song. Thanks for This Wonderful Upload. Regards Frank
Love this song. Only saw Iris in concert at a club back in about 1998. I was working the graveyard shift that started at 11 pm but had to actually be there at 10:45 pm to clock in and in uniform and aways from where the club was. So, I went to club in my uniform to save time from having to change clothes. Had to leave club while the concert was still going....so missed some of the concert, but probably saw most of it. Where I worked at that time was very, very strict about being on time and I was a new employee and still on probation, so I had to leave before concert ended. .
Wonderful....never thought that anybody would put this great Iris De Ment song up, never mind the great artwork backdrop -a labour of love I guess-....I've loved her stuff from the beginning. Many thanks.!!
Might be time to appreciate Dement's courage in making these simple observations: We got preachers dealing in politics and diamond mines And their speech is growing increasingly unkind They say they are Christ's disciples But they don't look like Jesus to me And it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free We got politicians running races on corporate cash Now don't tell me they don't turn around and kiss them peoples' ass You may call me old-fashioned But that don't fit my picture of a true democracy And it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free We got CEO's making two hundred times the workers' pay But they'll fight like hell against raising the minimum wage And If you don't like it, mister, they'll ship your job To some third-world country 'cross the sea And it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free Living in the wasteland of the free Where the poor have now become the enemy Let's blame our troubles on the weak ones Sounds like some kind of Hitler remedy Living in the wasteland of the free We got little kids with guns fighting inner city wars So what do we do, we put these little kids behind prison doors And we call ourselves the advanced civilization That sounds like crap to me And it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free We got high-school kids running 'round in Calvin Klein and Guess Who cannot pass a sixth-grade reading test But if you ask them, they can tell you The name of every crotch on MTV And it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free We kill for oil, then we throw a party when we win Some guy refuses to fight, and we call that the sin But he's standing up for what he believes in And that seems pretty damned American to me And it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free Living in the wasteland of the free Where the poor have now become the enemy Let's blame our troubles on the weak ones Sounds like some kind of Hitler remedy Living in the wasteland of the free While we sit gloating in our greatness Justice is sinking to the bottom of the sea Living in the wasteland of the free Living in the wasteland of the free Living in the wasteland of the free
When I was a freshman in high school, my French teacher once said, "America is the only country in the world where you are free to go to hell." I heard him, then, but now, 50 years later, I think all the others were forced into hell.
@baz2344 She hasn't changed anything. She sings about how bad it is. We Boomers were very idealistic, but naive and easily manipulated. There is no stopping entropy. Subsequent generations have only been worse.
We got AI making protest videos in our name. We got simulations occupying our brains We feel so brave we feel so strong When the algorithm writes us a song Thank you Jobs thank you Gates This new Creation is gonna be great
AI will kill video makers like me off, a machine does not put my videos together, a machine will not put in the thought I do...My views on my other channels are getting lower and lower... 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸

Absolutely true the world over, the people who go out and work hard for these companies to make a profit, are deprived of,even a small share, while the CEO,sit on their fat arses and grab obscene salaries, shameful behaviour, but if an employee asks for a living wage, that's described as GREED, disgusting,!!!
There was a time when a CEO would earn 10-20 times the workers salary. Now we have CEO of big corps earning 100,000 or in some cases a million times the average salary.
Thank you, Iris. You got every word right. Bravo.
You are so welcome Cynthia, your comments are appreciated...Baz🌲🎅🌲

Yeah for sure. I hope it didn’t sound like I was accusing you of being fake, I like iris dement a lot.
A person on the job is worth what they are worth, no more and no less; there should be no minimum wage.
