Maia Hugs Bambi's Face

The caregivers report that many times when they drive up and approach Maia and Bambi, Maia is in a pose where she’s hugging Bambi’s face. It happens so often that Maia will occasionally stop eating (it’s true!) to wrap her trunk around Bambi’s face, as a sign of affection. It’s beautiful to see that friendship and that joy and light in their eyes every day now.
This week’s Sunday Smile video highlights that sweet action and gives a glimpse into the vocalizations that have been abundant for the last couple of weeks. The environment feels light and easy. In this clip, a very sleepy Maia hugs Bambi, who is making lots of big rumbles. The blowing and other noises are Maia. Seeing them together is a gift we will never take for granted.

Oh my gosh, that makes me want to cry. Seeing Maya embracing her friend it’s such a neat and wonderful experience. I always worried about Maye being alone and not really having any friends. I’m so happy that she now has Bambi and Gillie to have fun and hang out with.🐘💖
