Kaval, known as shepherd's instrument, is produced from boxwood trees (rarely livori, fig and plum trees), with 1 hole at the bottom and 7 holes at the top. There are two types called tongued kaval and dumb kaval. There is a whistle at the end of the tongue-tied flute that provides sound production. The mute kaval is a hollow pipe and the player makes the desired sound with breathing techniques. One purpose of the shepherds blowing the panse is that grazing animals such as sheep and goats remain calm and do not leave the herd, this tradition is still practiced today.
