People have been repeating this lie for so long that people accept it as truth. Morris himself said he came up with the "groove" while they were jamming. If you know anything about song writing then you would know there's a difference between coming up with a "groove", or even a melody, and actually writing a song around that groove or melody. That's not to take away Morris' contribution, but to say "Morris Day wrote this song" is a falsehood.
