I got to play the original on the DS. Like you said, it really was easy to pick up and play, yet tricky to master. It had an amazing story mode too. Definitely a hidden gem.
It really is! I was amazed by how deep the gameplay is! Sponsorship aside, I'm actually really glad I got to check this one out and I might consider playing the full game next month!
I think they nailed the art direction, as far as characters go. I've seen some western games struggle to find a middleground between an anime-esque style and a more western look with all the facial construction that entails. Even when they go full-anime, they tend to have a cheap flash-game look to them, or obvious amateurish flaws in how they're drawn. Here though, the character portraits are shaded similarly to a lot of Japanese games, and it genuinely fits character designs and overall art direction they're going for. I could see these characters fitting in well with a new handheld Fire Emblem game.
I agree. A lot of care and time was spent redoing the artwork to match the aesthetic and feel of the game. I actually looked at the original artwork and, no shade to the original artists, but those didn't really help elevate the game. These new portraits are fantastic, and does a lot to lift the entire game!
Me and my buddy have been playing this game on his PS3 in his living room for many years. We always play against each other as Godrick to make it equal but also because his special item lets us recharge our armies as much as we want without using up a turn.We usually play until one of us wins 2 out of 3 games. Some of these games can last hours though... My buddy is moving across the country in a few weeks so we didn't think we'd ever be able to play this with each other again. As luck would have it, the Definitive edition is coming out just after he moves, so we' will now be able to play online via PS5! What are the odds of that happening just then? Awesome.
I’ve never heard of this, and I know literally nothing about Heroes of Might & Magic, but this looks pretty fun! Might have to download the demo and give it a shot.
When I was in my teens, I picked up this game on Xbox 360. My sister and I would play this game for hours. It was a ton of fun, I’ve boughten the definitive edition, but it didn’t garner the attention I expected it too, which is disappointing because it is one of my favorite games of all time.
This sounds so interesting! The character portraits are super gorgeous. I do feel a bit intimidated by what you said about the combat though, not gonna lie here 😅 But I'll keep an eye out for this, thank you for talking about it!
I played this game on my phone when I was in high school which was like 10 years ago, it was fun, the archers, the knights, the undead, and the demons. What a nice game.
Thanks for the reminder this is coming out. I have the original on DS still, but replaying on Steam Deck is very tempting. I'll have to check out how much they're charging for it on Steam...
There's a link in the description if you want to wishlist it, but it does contain ALL of the DLC, plus a co-op DLC (I think it's new) where you and a friend can try to defeat multiple bosses together! I sadly don't know what quality of life features were added, but those were mentioned as being part of this!
Love it! I played it on Xbox and got it again on steam. You need to play through it, amazing game! I wish there were more games that made me think like this one does.
I’ve tried the demo very briefly, the game seemed mostly the same aside from the new artwork. The original game only had 1 DLC that’s not important to the story. I think it was bosses used in online mode? The reworked balance with online battles doesn’t concern me either. I would have liked knowing more about what those QoL improvements are exactly. Because the rest doesn’t seem worth a double dip so far.
To be frank, given how unfamiliar I am with the original game, I think the whole point of this re-release is to get folks like me who have never played the original to give it a second look. The developers didn't share what the quality of life features were in anything they shared with me, so I sadly can't provide that info :(
@@BacklogBattle thank you for clarifying. The game is definitely worth playing for new players. You mentioned wanting more options to customise your play style. The original game is fairly simple when it comes to this. You only level up, select units and the main character can equip artifacts that help you with certain aspects. The currency you get is to buy more special units as you can lose them permanently. But you don’t need to worry about that because you get enough that’s not really an issue.

Very cool demo game, will you play the muller-powell principle demo?
this game was a key part of my childhood.
I played it on PS3 and I enjoyed it. I'll have to see if the Definitive Edition is worth the double dip though
I´m so happy that they´ve brought one of my favorite strategy games into the switch even after all these years
I remember looking at the trailer for this on the PlayStation channel. Will probably pick this up and give it a try
As a fan of Heroes of Might & Magic, I was curious and skeptical when this came out on the Nintendo DS. But wow, did it impress.
To be honest, I had never even heard of this game until they reached out to me! I missed out on something really cool and innovative!

Inbite me to any tournaments lol hopefully with enough support we could get a Might and Magic 2 Clash of heroes
This looks pretty cool, thanks for bringing it to my attention!

My old roommates and I used to play the hell out of this back in the day! Great game. Super addictive.

I was trying to see if I could still get it on mobile but can’t find it!

I enjoyed this game so much on the DS that i bought it for Xbox 360 and later Steam so i am looking forward to playing on the Switch next month.
I have the DS version of this. Really a lot of fun - I loved it!
I love this game, it's fun.
Does anyone have a recommendation of a clone of this game other than Solgard?? There’s gotta be something out there but I haven’t found it.
