As a senior, I understand it is hard to shop for us. That said, what many of us really would like is time with our kids and grandkids. A homemade coupon for a dinner at your house, or a day trip coupon with you. Also much appreciated is a homemade coupon for 3 hours of a grandson's (or granddaughter's) time--maybe to clean out a basement or rake leaves, etc. Anything that spends time with me!

Great if you’re in the area. Nowadays I think short video calls are what my folks in their 80’s would love. And recording them sharing their stories is something that I know both them and my kids love. Issue we all can talk to long, story tellers, so hard to keep these short and regular…once a month or seasonal is my aim.

@@thomasreiling4797 that sounds like such fun. Unfortunately my daughter in law is not keen on family time. Feels that a 2 hour visit every 3 months is sufficient. My grandson is 6 yrs old and has had one sleep over in February. They live 15 mins away from us. We have 1 son and 1 grandson. So, so sad. For our grandson and of course us!! We have never spent Christmas or New year's day with them. They are going on holiday on the 16th Dec and returning 6 Jan. Enjoy your precious time with them, they grow so quickly. Happy holidays to you all. From a sad Grammy in South Africa .

I’m fortunate to stay at home with my baby. We had to make some financial sacrifices though and pricy Christmas gifts for friends and family is something we just can’t do right now. So I spend the months before Christmas making gifts. This year I made melt and pour soaps, homemade canned apple butter, Christmas cookies, and some house plants that I’ve been propagating and growing for the last 6 months. They aren’t fancy but it’s still nice to receive a handmade consumable gift that won’t clutter up a closet. Love your channel Christine!

i love the 12 days of Christmas gift idea for someone who is alone or someone who is going through a rough time and would really appreciate it. Several years ago my husbands work shut down for a couple weeks over Christmas because they were so slow. Money was a little tight that Christmas. We needed new tires on our vehicle and were brainstorming how to come up with enough money to purchase them, when we received a package in the mail from a secret Santa with 10 one hundred dollar bills in it! We never found out who it was from! We felt very blessed that Christmas!

One thing I have done for friends who have moved out of state (I'm in Colorado) is to collect throughout the year items that are made in or refer my state (wine, salsa, candy, coffee mug, t-shirt, honey, etc.) and then ship them a "Colorado Basket" just to let them know that I'm thinking of and miss them.
    Keep the good vibes flowing.

Love your vidoes! We no longer do gifts for our extended family - thank goodness! With my adult kids I just give them a price range and ask what they want for their main gift. I do "stockings" (or some kind of useful container) with candy and small inexpensive items. This year my son and son in law are getting 5 gallon Home Dept. buckets filled with a tarp, rope, duct tape, zip ties and WD-40 along with candy from the Dollar Tree!

I really like the personalized calendar idea along with a box of greeting cards for the recipient to use. The Dollar Tree sells nice cards 2 for $1 to round out the gift. The older people in my life send so many cards that paying full price for greeting cards hits the budget too hard. Since a few of my older family members can’t drive, they’re always appreciative to get the cards so they’re ready for any occasion.

Love the conversation. I will put caution to the photo calendar: Just give me a family photo! Who uses a physical calendar on their wall or desk. I get 2-3 of these per year that do not get used! We are wasting trees and money on personalized calendars. For older adults: My dad is in his 80's and sometimes needs help with stuff. Grut for a day is great. He loves the help. I have also found that early in the year deductibles are hard on a senior citizen budget. A gift card to the grocery or pharmacy is not jazzy but my dad hugs me HARD each year because he appreciates the help on the sly.

They kept me guessing until Christmas Eve. They donated a flock of chickens to a needy family in my name. They made a Mason Jar soup mix with the recipe one night. They were so sweet and I still have the card their daughter gave me to reveal it had been them. I have since managed to do several of these since they touched my heart so much.

Love your channel and content Christine💚❤💚❤

I'd love any gift but visa cards are easy because I'm usually just getting food, things for the house, things for our son, or just random little things we need. It really does help more than just getting a gift.

@@desertmama98 yes absolutely I agree with you💜 I know personally I always enjoyed getting those that way I can choose whatever I want not that I don't appreciate someone trying to buy me something it's just much easier picking out things that we like in the long run

The only thing I don't like about those is that my budget can be pretty small. Sometimes as small as 5, or 10 dollars, and I don't think people would like an amount that small. I would. But most wouldn't

I got cut off in the middle of my post.........because my battery went dead! I wanted to tell you about the “Thanksgiving Basket” that I have done. It starts on thanksgiving day and ends on Christmas Day. You put a wrapped present in for every day. The last present is a nicer present, but the rest are some small gifts to make your person smile! Candy, candles, books, jewelry, etc. last year my friend and co-worker went together with me to make a basket for a friend who was in a nursing home. She loved it so much. The nurses and other
Patients would come in to see what she’d gotten that day. I could see the smile on her face just by calling and talking to her. Im nit sure who had more fun, her or us! It was a real blessing to all of us. Our friend passed away in October.....we are so thankful that we’d taken the time to make her last Christmas a blessing to her......but also to us! Try it it’s life changing!!m

Loved all of the ideas. Your 12 days of Christmas reminds me of a gift my daughter made for my son and daughter in law one year. She spent a month putting together a box that she decorated and inside was 12 sealed large Manila envelopes. Each envelope was a date night. Each one had a different theme and had supplies or gift cards to go along with the theme. Each one centered around things they liked to do.

Loved your gift giving ideas that get the ole mind thinking outside the box :) One year my Mom asked what my sister & I wanted & after thinking about it a minute or two, I told her it isn't things I "want", it was things that were needed & practical :) I needed paper towels, toilet paper, kleenex, aluminum foil etc. So that year, she not only gave us a special gift, she gave us those items as a "prank" gift BUT, the joke was on her LOL....we LOVED receiving those items & she continued that tradition until she passed. My sister & I still continue that lil gag gift tradition :) They weren't "show & tell" gifts but gifts that meant a lot to us and greatly appreciated :)

A few years ago we had professional pictures taken, and received a CD with all the pictures on it. That Christmas my mom asked for coasters. My brother had coasters made with the individual pictures of each of us. They are great because they are all color coordinated, and everyone can use the coaster with their face on it when we are all together, which means less confusion over whose drink was set down where.

These are great ideas Christine those building blocks and green toys are great, I was a preschool teacher for almost 20 years, 6 at my last school and recently lost my job. I started watching your channel recently for ideas so I can stay home. I am 57 and really would love to figure a way to stay home. I just really don't know what to do next, and according to my husband my timing right before the holidays wasn't the best. Not really sure where I was going with this, but I am thankful for your channel and to be honest I don't miss the extras and am loving my new life now to get my husband on board. Merry Christmas and God Bless you and your sweet family.

I have a roll up jewelry case that my sister-in-law gave me over 30 years ago that I still use when I travel. When she gave it to me, it was her recognizing my lifestyle and encouraging and supporting that. Every time I see it, I think of her love to me. Recently when I spoke to her I told this, she had no idea what her gift meant ...continues to mean to me. So yes, personalized gift is the way to go! Another story is years ago my dad couldn't shop so he gave me money to shop for him, which was a treat for me. So one of the gifts, I found at a flea market was a leather " man bag" for my brother-in-law, he loved it! Or there was the time, as a poor college student, I handmade gifts which was received with joy.

I agree re. too many toys. Each year after Christmas my mom put a basket/box in our room. We were to put clothing in the basket and other stuff if the box. We then piled in the car and donated it. Prior to Christmas we had a budget and made boxes of cookies to drop off at neighbors, maybe a kid from school we knew could use it. I saved a Christmas dress and delivered it to a classmate's house. My mom talked to her mom. When we went back to school she wore the dress, gave me a hug and told me thank you. It was the only new thing she was given. Don't get me wrong, we had years when we were the recipient of our church holiday meal box. We were each given 1 book at Christmas, we would regift them to each other. As an adult I get holiday cards or save the fronts of cards and put them in the can goods I give to people on the street. Showing care to others is the Christmas memory I have. BTW many kids toys are recyclable via TerraCycle. Even their crayons can be recycled now. For our elders, we give the calendars and fruit/cheese boxes. We've also done a similar method that makes photo books. Showing people we care year-round shows we understand the meaning of Christmas.
